Chapter 657
Chapter 657
The topic finally came up, and it wasn't as if Fanny hadn't considered it before. So when he asked, she didn't need a moment to think. "Why don't you come back and build your career here?" Fanny countered.
Yates, in the midst of kissing her, paused slightly, "I can't just yet."
Fanny didn't press for details. She simply replied, "I don't want to move abroad."
Their conversation tapered off, with Yates likely sensing Fanny's mood. He gently pulled her closer, "I'll apply to return next year."
"Okay," Fanny murmured, eyes closed.
"You get some sleep. I'll go take a shower," Yates said, standing up and heading to the bathroom.
But suddenly, Fanny's eyes shot open as she stared up at the ceiling. She used to think long-distance relationships were doable, but now she was starting to see just how torturous they could really be.
Yates' phone rang. Fanny picked it up, calling out towards the bathroom, "Yates, it's Milly."
"Just take it," Yates replied, casual as always.
Fanny smirked slightly and answered, "Hey, Milly."
There was a brief silence on the other end, "Dr. Willis, is Yates there?"
"He's in the shower, but he asked me to take any urgent calls and relay them," Fanny made it clear that Yates was aware she was answering his phone.
"I just wanted to remind him that Professor Rily is coming over the day after tomorrow. He needs to be back for that meeting as soon as possible." "Got it, I'll pass it on. Anything else, Milly?" Fanny knew Milly was aware of the timing and the reason for Yates' visit. If she was calling, it wasn't just to remind him.
"Dr. Willis," Milly said softly, "Do you think your relationship with Yates can last?"
Milly didn't beat around the bush; she made her interest in Yates pretty clear.
"I don't know. I focus on the present, enjoying the love we have," Fanny's response wasn't meant to provoke; it was simply the truth.
No one can guarantee forever, but if she loves him now, then he's all that matters.
Milly didn't say anything else and hung up after a few seconds.
Fanny chuckled, placing the phone on the windowsill and pressing the switch to open the curtains automatically.
She gazed out into the night, but her eyes caught sight of a black luxury car she hadn't seen before.
The car window was down, and someone was inside. She squinted for a better look when the window rolled up and the car drove off.
"What are you looking at?" Yates asked, emerging from the bathroom. This is from NôvelDrama.Org.
"Just the stars and the moon," Fanny replied, handing back his phone and relaying Milly's reminder, omitting the personal chat.
Yates had to know Milly was
vel
interested in him, but his lack of
response meant he wasn't
inted. So, Fanny didn't bother
bringing it up.
When I received Fanny's text the next afternoon, asking if I still wanted to see Yates, I definitely did. It's not every day Yates comes back home. But I was still in Goldbridge, not back yet.
It wasn't that I didn't want to return, but Deborah wouldn't leave.
Having seen her living conditions, how could I leave her there?
I'd been trying to convince her all day, but she kept saying, "Go on without me, Licia. I'm fine here."
But I knew there had to be another reason she wouldn't leave, "Deborah, unless you tell me the real reason, I'm not going anywhere without you."

Under pressure, Deborah confessed, "Licia, I'd be in danger if I went back."
She bit her lip, "I accidentally discovered someone's secret."
