The True Heiress's Return

Heiress’s Return 269

Chapter 269

Jared paused for a moment and said, "Ms. Nelson, could you send me the actual evidence so I can verify it?" Yvette immediately got angry. "What do you mean? Do you think I'm lying and trying to defame someone?"

"That's not what I mean. It's just..." Jared hesitated. "I have to explain it to Mr. Nelson, and this list needs to be optimized before the next quarter. Changing the cafeteria contractor means choosing a new one at least a month in advance. It's quite rushed." Yvette snorted, "Do you think I didn't consider all this? I'll talk to Finn. Just put the name on the list. I have a friend who works in this area. I'll give him your contact info, and you two can discuss it." Yvette settled the matter in a few words. Jared didn't reply right away. Yvette casually remarked, "Jared, you've been working with Finn for three years, right?"

"Yes, I got promoted right after Mr. Nelson took charge of the company," Jared answered.

"Then you should know how much my dad and Finn dote on me. Do you think such a small matter is beyond me and that I have to bother Finn about it?" Yvette said.

Jared clearly understood the significance of Yvette's words. He often bought gifts for Yvette at Finn's request. Since Yvette lately damaged the company's image, he had been handling the fallout.

The priority that Finn and Cody gave to Yvette was obvious. Jared paused for a moment and then replied seriously, "Alright, I know what needs to be done."

Yvette gave a satisfied smile and ended the call. Her eyes had a gloomy look. She had been unsure about taking this step, but now, she thought, 'Felix, you forced my hand! You're all heartless to me, and you betrayed me! I'll make you pay for this!' She quickly sent a message to Lago, asking him to coordinate with Gideon and Jared. After completing these tasks, Yvette felt at ease and walked out.

Just as she opened the door, she was startled by the sudden appearance of Lonely Bird. Yvette turned pale. "Wh-What are you doing here?"

Her mind was a tangled mess. She wondered, 'Damn, when did she come? How much did she overhear?'

Shakira remained expressionless. "Your headset got disconnected. Everyone's been looking for you."

Feeling nervous, Yvette tried to explain it. "I had to... You know, nature calls."

Shakira sneered, exposing her flimsy lie. "Is there even a bathroom inside?"

Yvette was speechless.

Without caring how embarrassed Yvette felt, Shakira turned and walked out. Yvette watched her cold and proud silhouette, her eyes turning icy.

After the guests were settled into their accommodations, the program team gave them the usual tasks. Each group had six 'people, and their mission was to get to know the local villagers and score an invite for dinner.

[What? I can't believe the program team of a big show like 'Mending Hearts' is so stingy that they can't even provide dinner.]

[Hahaha, even the most high-end reality shows have the simple dinner-crashing' segment!]

The guests were free to form their own groups. This task tested their ability to use social skills to score a dinner invitation, something not easy without a thick skin.

Unsurprisingly, the two regular guests became the most sought-after teammates, as they were more familiar with this kind

of task than even the director.

Two teams were quickly formed, leaving the remaining six people to form a group. Shakira, two surgical chiefs, a strict ICU head nurse, Yvette, and Felix formed one team. The six of them looked at one another, their expressions bewildered.

The comments section was full of joy. [Hey, none of these six seem to have that 'life of the party' vibe, do they?]

[Mr. Bonucci and Mr. Mraz are famously quiet at Haruca Hospital. They'd rather take action than talk.]

[Haha, our head nurse is the same. We spend our days dealing with seriously ill patients, so who has time for small talk? Even talking with the grocers leaves us hesitant!]

[Dr. Lonely Bird's got social anxiety, and as for Finn, he isn't good at socializing either. Oh, this group's going to be hungry tonight!]

[Hey, did you all forget about Yvette?]

[Huh, she's a fake rich girl living off someone else's identity and parents. What can she do?]

Clearly, this group, which viewers weren't counting on, was not doing well. The other two groups, full of social butterflies, finished their tasks in under half an hour. They chatted and had tea at the villagers' homes and even stayed for a meal. As for these six people, they were still at the starting point.

Finally, the head nurse couldn't hold back any longer and asked, "Mr. Bonucci, Mr. Mraz, are we having dinner tonight?"

Jason, who was skillful in medicine and chubby, loved meat. With a worried face, he said, "Of course, or we won't have the energy to work tomorrow."

Leo also couldn't help but say, "We might not have anything to eat tomorrow morning,

so we should eat well tonight."Copyright by Nôv/elDrama.Org.

Yvette glanced at them and volunteered, "I'll give it a try. I'll perform a little show for the villagers, and maybe they'll let us/ stay for dinner."

Jackson quickly gave a thumb-up. "Great idea!"

They chose a house and knocked on the door. A frail, thin, old woman answered. Yvette smiled warmly, "Ma'am, we're here as guests to offer free health check-ups. Can we come in?"

The old woman's eyes lit up. "Oh, you're the ones here to treat us? Wonderful. Come in." She started walking inside.

The group was hopeful and followed her inside, only to find the courtyard was full of eight elderly people.

At this moment, a middle-aged woman rushed out of a small cottage with smoke curling from its chimney. Holding a spatula, she looked at them suspiciously. "Who are you?"

Yvette explained their purpose again. The woman's expression stayed skeptical as she kept staring at them and said, "Isn't the 'check-up tomorrow? What are you doing here now?"

Leading them inside, the old woman smiled at the middle-aged woman and said, "Ella, they're here for us. Whether it's today or tomorrow, it's all the same." A few other elderly men and women also smiled happily at them.

Yvette was stunned and quickly waved her hands. "No, madam. The free health service is tomorrow. We're just here today to meet everyone and get to know you

all."

On hearing this, the elderly folks who had been happy a moment ago suddenly wore displeased expressions and started to complain.

"If you're here to give checkups, just do it. Why make such a fuss?"

"Exactly, whether it's today or tomorrow, it's the same. Why can't you just do it today?"

"If you examine us today, we'll feel better a day sooner. Are you really here to help us, or are you just stalling on purpose?"

"Could it be that you're saying it's free, but you're actually planning to ask us for money upfront?"

As soon as these words were said, the elderly folks in the courtyard all put on fierce looks, glaring at them.

"What? Do you want money? Forget it. These little ailments won't kill me, and I'm not paying! No way!" ""Get out!"
