She
Ever since I got married to that woman, my life became a damn hell. I swear, when I saw her in that dress I wanted to die; she wore that garment without my permission, ruining everything.
That dress belonged to my great love, my beloved Eleanor. We couldn't continue with our plans because of Samantha, who had to show up and ruin everything. But I wasn't going to blind myself, Samantha stirred feelings in me. Her skin so white that I could barely see it. Whenever we were together, it was either with the lights off or I would get desperate and not admire her as I should.
And to top it all off, that damn Omer had to show up, the savior of the innocent, who was nothing but a joke. Both he and I were hiding the truth from Samantha. The rain fell mercilessly, she had stayed in the street because of her damn stubbornness. I wouldn't humiliate myself, I knew that everything had changed in London, but upon arriving here everything came together, making me regain consciousness once again and look forward.
I entered the house like a bat out of hell, serving myself a drink I urgently needed. My gaze was lost in those huge windows through which I could see the rain falling.
"Sir," said my driver and bodyguard.
"What's happening?"
"According to informants, there was a car accident near where we left the lady."
My whole body tensed, a strange sensation settled in my chest. Concern? Or perhaps it was fear?
"An accident? Is Samantha involved in that?" I asked with concern.
"We're not sure, sir. But maybe we should go check," the driver replied.
Without thinking twice, I set the glass aside and ran out of the house. I couldn't allow anything to happen to Samantha, despite all our problems and differences. The rain continued to fall heavily, but nothing could stop me at that moment. Upon arriving at the accident site, my heart stopped when I saw the wrecked car and Samantha being attended to by paramedics. I ran towards her, but her body was covered in blood.
"Samantha! Are you okay?" I exclaimed worriedly, while a paramedic responded to me.
"Are you a family member?"
"I'm her husband," I replied firmly.
"Your wife has several fractures, the car was speeding, the driver fled leaving the vehicle, could you tell me the lady's name."
"Samantha Ferner, she is pregnant."
"You can go with the lady, but she needs to be urgently transported."
Without thinking twice, I got into the ambulance. My heart was racing, my hands were shaking. Seeing her on that stretcher covered in blood, almost dead, was wreaking havoc on me. All of this was my fault.
The journey to the clinic was hell, the streets were crowded with cars, making it harder to navigate. Samantha was losing a lot of blood, her legs were red and purple, her chest hardly moved, her eyes didn't open and she had a head injury. When we finally arrived at the hospital, the doctors were waiting. Omer was one of them. Upon seeing him, anger and threats poured out of me. Sam was in bad shape, pregnant, and in need of urgent attention.
I sat on the floor in the waiting room, desperate. Tears started to escape. I dialed her father's number, who answered on the third ring.
"What's up, Ferner? No refunds accepted," he answered mockingly.
"I'm not in the mood for jokes. Listen to me, bring your damn ass to the downtown hospital. Samantha had an accident and she's very bad."
A silence ensued, then his mother's voice.
"What did you do to my daughter, bastard?" she shouted crazily.
"Tell me what Samantha's blood type is, please," was all I could say.
Her mother started crying without being able to speak. Her father gave me an answer that would complicate things even more.
"Samantha has golden blood, she has a very rare blood type, it's called Rhnull."
I hung up the call, got up and ran to the operating room door where Samantha was. I wanted to know something about her, but no one would tell me anything.
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Omer came out of the operating room and approached me with a serious look. It seemed like he had been crying.
"Sam is in critical condition. She has lost a lot of blood and is in danger. We need to do a blood transfusion as soon as possible, but her blood type is very rare. We need to find someone with Rhnull blood to save her. She doesn't have much time left. I will wait for her parents to arrive to give full information. I don't trust you."
At that moment, I understood the gravity of the situation. Samantha was fighting for her life, and I was guilty of everything. I felt desperate, guilty, and completely lost.
Making a decision, I went to him.
"Do whatever is necessary to save her. I will do whatever it takes to find someone with that blood type. I won't give up."
"You don't have to give me orders, I'm not doing it for you, I'm doing it for her, because I love her."
"She..." I stammered, not daring to ask.
"No Serkan, as unbelievable as it may seem, the baby is still alive."
Saying that I felt like I was dying was an understatement, my heart didn't stop for even a second. I had called every blood bank in the country, had contacts searching all over the world, and no one was able to find anything.
I was losing my mind, Sam's parents had arrived, her mother was out of control and her father remained silent, seeming to be hiding something.
My own parents didn't take long to arrive, but they were only there to keep up appearances. The press was already aware, it was only a matter of time before they tried to get a picture of Samantha to publish on the front page, as if she were a trophy.
My heart was beating so strongly it felt like it wanted to burst out of my chest, and my nerves were on edge. The tension in the room was palpable, and interactions with each person in that waiting room were like sparks of electricity igniting a flame inside me.
The operation continued while we all stayed in the long waiting hallway, where you couldn't even hear a fly buzzing, until my phone rang.
-Sir-it was my driver.
-Were you able to find something? I asked hopefully, holding on to a chance.
-Yes, we found someone with the same blood as your wife, but they're asking for ten million dollars in exchange.
Who is it? I asked curiously. The amount was outrageous, but my wife's life was priceless.
It's your father-in-law, sir, the lady's father.
With the phone still on my cheek, I turned to look at him. A wicked smile crossed his face. I couldn't hold back and pounced on him. Everyone reacted trying to pull me off. -You son of a b**ch! -I yelled as my father held me back.
-Nothing is free in this life, now you know the price.
Everyone turned to look at me, but it was Samantha's mother who spoke first.
-What's going on?-she asked, fearing the answer.
Her husband has the same blood as your daughter and wants ten million in exchange for donating it.
Tears filled Samantha's mother's eyes. She looked at her husband with a mix of surprise and horror on her face. He simply shrugged, showing no remorse for his cruel blackmail.
Without a second thought, I pulled out my wallet and called my lawyer to make the necessary arrangements to transfer the money. I didn't care about the money at that moment, I just wanted to save my wife and child's life. My lawyer will take care of the paperwork. Now, fulfill your end of the deal.
It will be a pleasure -he replied without a hint of emotion.
I didn't want to leave the waiting room, but my father was getting more stubborn, insisting on talking to me. I knew exactly what he wanted, but I wasn't in the mood for jokes. This time I wouldn't let him cross the line. I walked decisively towards the entrance of the clinic. He followed me.
What do you want? Spit it out.
-You know what I want. It's not worth paying that amount of money for that woman. This is our chance for revenge. They will pay for everything. Don't hesitate, Serkan, I raised a man, don't let me lose control.
My blood began to boil, my heart was racing, I would lose control.
I looked at him with fury and approached him, taking steps like a lion when it has its prey in sight.
-Dad, I know I owe you respect, but that is something that is earned. I'm involved in all of this because of you, now don't ask me to let my wife die. She's my wife and she's expecting a child.
A child who is not yours -he replied with impetus.ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
To hell with that! It's my child, whether or not it has my blood, it's mine. I'll believe in him, I'll love him. I care very little about what you all say. If anyone dares to stand in my way, I'll drag them with a hurricane. You, my mom, and that damn Omer can go to hell I shouted disoriented, confronting my father like never before.
Suddenly his hand landed on my cheek. My father had hit me.
Did you forget everything he did? Don't come at me with nonsense. Don't challenge me, Serkan. I'll kill her, disappear that bastard, if I don't end him first.
-What did he do to you? I asked as I continued shouting. Allow me to doubt this whole story. Such an innocent person is not capable of devising such a plan. You're inventing all of this to manipulate me.
-Please, son, don't be ridiculous!
-You've been warned, father. Cancel everything you've orchestrated because I won't hesitate to destroy you. I want you to stay away from my wife and my child. Preferably, from my life.
Are you threatening me, Serkan? -he asked in his typical intimidating tone, a pity it didn't affect me.
-A warning is a warning, father.
Like hell it is, Serkan!
My father was truly furious. Nothing was going according to plan. Everything was falling apart, but what was my fault for loving her? I fell in love with her from the first time I saw her. I swear I tried to stay away. As proof, if I had not left her, she wouldn't be fighting for her life.
I was about to respond when a familiar voice joined the argument.
-Problems between father and son? What's going on, Serkan? Your daddy doesn't protect you anymore.
-Shut up and leave, this is none of your business!
Father, are you going to let him talk to you like that? I warned you, you should have let me continue with the task-the stranger spoke with malice as he smiled.
I want you to stay away from my wife. You and my father have been warned I said as I walked towards him, ready to punch him in the face. I hated the way he looked at me. My father and he were really similar, with slightly darker skin. Those evil-filled black eyes, a demon-like smile. No one would doubt they were father and son, while I was something completely different. I seemed to be from another family.
-Enough! Serkan, Omer, that's enough. Let's not make a scene worse. You go do your shift -he said, pointing to the doctor- and you, Serkan, go to your wife, but don't forget my warning.
And you don't forget mine. I want you out of my life.
With that said, I turned around and entered the clinic again, hoping for better news.
