Chapter 270 Not The Best Company
That evening, as Finnegan and Rhiannon were leaving Quiana’s hospital room to go to Bennett Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
Farmhouse, they unexpectedly encountered Melinda and Qahira.
“Finny!” Melinda called out as they exited the hospital,
Despite looking worn out, the two women brightened up at the sight of Finnegan, and they eagerly
approached him.
Man, this sucks. Finnegan, though displeased, responded coolly, “Aunt Melinda, Aunt Qahira.”
Rhiannon followed suit with a polite but distant greeting, “Aunt Melinda, Aunt Qahira.”
She then tugged at Finnegan’s arm, trying to hasten their departure. “Finn, we should get going. Nancy
was asking about us just now.”
“Finny, just a moment,” Melinda interjected, stepping in their path.
“A moment, Finny,” Qahira implored, “Your aunt and I need to talk to you.”
Finnegan, already anticipating their request, cut them off, “Aunt Melinda, Aunt Qahira, we might share
some family ties, but beyond that, we’re practically strangers. Please, no more of this.”
He added firmly, “Don’t drag my parents into this. It’s not going to work and only makes me resent you
more.”
With that, he took Rhiannon by the hand and left, ignoring Melinda and Qahira’s sour expressions.
Finnegan wasn’t one to respond to ill-will with kindness; sparing them was mercy enough in his eyes.
“Finnegan, wait!” Qahira pleaded, “Even if you can’t help, could you lend us some money? Or maybe
talk to the hospital about our bills?”
Melinda joined in, “Exactly! You’re the hospital’s special consultant; you have influence here. Dr.
Cooper respects you. Just a word from you, and we might not have to pay. We can’t afford this; our
families will be ruined. Can you bear to see that happen?”
Finnegan’s brow creased slightly, feigning deafness as he hastened his steps, ushering Rhiannon with
him.
Witnessing Finnegan’s apparent indifference and “lack of gratitude,” Melinda returned to her true
nature, bitterly exclaiming, “This ungrateful wretch, utterly heartless! How can he be so cruel to his own
family!”
Qahira, blind to her own faults, cursed, “It’s unbelievable! How can someone so vile be so successful? I
can’t stand it!”
Melinda, her voice tinged with resentment, suggested, “If we can’t stomach it, we need to find a way to
bring him down, make sure he can’t keep looking down on us.”
Qahira’s interest was piqued when she heard this. “Is there actually a way?”
“There’s no plan right now. But I’ll talk it over with Adrian and the rest. We’ve got to deal with that
d*mned jerk,” Melinda resolved.

Finnegan, oblivious to their scheming as he had already departed, took taxi with Rhiannon.
Concurrently, he contacted Shaun and the others, directing them to Bennett Farmhouse.
After Finnegan ended the call, Rhiannon queried of him, “Finn, considering what just happened, do you
think Aunt Melinda and the others might have changed?”
To this, Finnegan offered a word of caution, “Always keep in mind, a leopard doesn’t change its spots.”
Rhiannon, reflecting on the behavior of her uncles’ families, concurred with Finnegan’s viewpoint. “That
does sound like them, snobbish and always quick to trample on others. What if they keep causing
trouble, though?”
Rhiannon couldn’t help but feel a bit concerned. Desmond and Quiana had changed their perspective
on Melinda’s family, recognizing their true nature.
Yet, there was still a sense of familial bond that lingered, which made Rhiannon somewhat uneasy.
A brief, icy flash flickered in Finnegan’s eyes before it vanished. “They better not start anything again.
Even if Mom and Dad don’t see it, I won’t let them get away with it!” he declared.
Sensing that Finnegan’s words were somewhat stern, Rhiannon smoothly shifted the conversation.
“Oh, and it’s Mr. Sanchez’s birthday today. I hope it’s fine we didn’t bring a gift?”
Finnegan reassured her, “Don’t worry about it. He’s probably not the type to fuss over such things.”
As evening set in, the Larkin siblings reached Bennett Farmhouse. They found Zephyr, Shaun, and
others, including Casper and Yuliana, already there.
Upon their arrival, Zephyr and his group quickly greeted them, “Finnegan, Ms. Larkin.”
Observing their behavior, Finnegan noticed Zephyr and his friends seemed overly enthusiastic toward
Rhiannon. His eyes narrowed as he grasped their intentions.
Without hesitation, he playfully kicked them, jokingly warning, “Back off! Don’t even think about my
sister; you’re not in her league!”
Shaun, rubbing his behind after Finnegan’s kick, protested innocently, “Hey, Finnegan, it’s not like that.
We just want to be friends with Ms. Larkin, nothing more.”
Zephyr and Jaxon echoed, “Right, just friends with Ms. Larkin. You’ve got the wrong idea.”
“What a load of bull! You three-”
But before Finnegan could respond further, Rhiannon interjected, “Finn, I’m sure Mr. Zephyr and his
friends mean no harm. I should have some friends, shouldn’t I?”
Zephyr and his companions quickly agreed, “Absolutely! Ms. Larkin is correct.”
Finnegan couldn’t help but smile wryly, patting Rhiannon’s shoulder. “Okay, just be cautious. Don’t be
deceived by them. These guys aren’t the best company
Upon hearing this, Zephyr and the others could only display a resigned expression at Finnegan’s blunt
remark.

“Could you be a bit more discreet? Our pride is at stake here!” their expressions seemed to say.
At that moment, Finnegan’s phone rang. Glancing at the caller ID, he excused himself from the group.
“You guys go on, I need to take this call.”
Stepping away, Finnegan answered Bernice’s call, saying, “Hey, I was just thinking of inviting you to
dinner.”
“Yeah right,” she responded skeptically. “It’s already seven. You should’ve given me a heads-up an
hour ago. Plus, Rhiannon already texted me, and you didn’t even mention inviting me.”
Finnegan gave a wry chuckle. “You’re getting sharper by the day, Darling.”
“I’ve always been sharp; I just didn’t bother pointing out your tricks, you scoundrel!”
Finnegan, smiling, teased, “So, what’s up, Darling? Are you inviting me over tonight for some play
time?”
“Behave! Cin is right here,” Bernice reminded him in a hushed tone.
With a mischievous grin, Finnegan quipped, “It’s fine for couples to flirt, isn’t it? Let her get used to our
lovey-dovey talk.”
Bernice sighed. “Enough with your nonsense. Listen, we have dinner plans at my grandparents’
tomorrow night. Grandpa and Grandma both insisted.”
Finnegan raised an eyebrow, intrigued. Bruce’s invitation was expected, but Millicent’s involvement was
a surprise. Could they have heard about Timothy’s situation? Has Millicent softened?
When that train of thought crossed his mind, he instantly doubted it. Recalling Hailey’s message from
earlier, Finnegan then replied, “I’ll make time for it then. I need to talk to your Uncle Bishop too.”
“Okay, I’ll let Grandpa know. Talk later.”
It wasn’t until she had ended the call that Bernice realized she had forgotten something.
Casting an apologetic look at the woman beside her, she said, “I might have forgotten something…”
“No, you actually did forget.” Cindy, spotting her friend’s guilt, rolled her eyes and playfully chided,
“Stop being so smitten that you lose all reason!”
With an awkward smile, Bernice said, “Guess I’ll call Finnegan back.”
“No, don’t bother. I don’t want to be the third wheel anymore. I’ll catch up with him at Jerome Medical
Clinic tomorrow myself!”
