Chapter 45 Don’t Pretend
“Going out for dinner and a date, and even driving her here, you guys have such a great relationship!” Shannon exclaimed.
Steve chuckled lightly in response, “My relationship with Ranita hasn’t developed to that point yet.”
Shannon immediately seized on the key words and tried to stir up some trouble, but Brendon interrupted her coldly, “Time’s up, let’s go upstairs.”
Shannon had always been obedient in front of Brendon. “Ranita and I will go up first! Brendon, make sure you stay safe,” she said.
“Hmm! Go ahead and don’t be late!” Brendon responded patiently.
Ranita couldn’t help but glance at him.
The man’s cold and icy expression softened slightly, and his features followed suit, as if a gentle breeze had swept away the ice and snow, bringing a touch of warmth as the spring drew near.
She needed time to get over Brendon no matter how strong she was. Fortunately, it would only take three more months.
“Ranita, let’s go!” Shannon smiled and pretended to want to hold Ranita’s hand but was subtly avoided by her.
Ranita nodded at Steve, “Dr. Pearson, I’ll leave now! Thank you for bringing me here.”
Her foot still hurt but she endured it so it wasn’t too noticeable.
“Is your foot still hurting?” After walking out a few steps away from the others’ hearing range, Shannon lowered her voice teasingly, “Ranita, you and Steve look like a great match. Do you two have something going on? If you do, then Brendon and I would feel much more at ease. Steve will surely take good care of you!”
“Miss Murphy, we’re not close,” Ranita replied coldly.
“Ranita, are you still mad at me?”
Ranita couldn’t help but feel frustrated. Was that the only thing she knew how to say?
“Miss Murphy, you’re overthinking,” Ranita continued walking forward without looking back, her voice light. “These are all my private matters, so there’s no need for you to worry.”
She paused and turned to face Shannon with a cold gaze. “Miss Murphy, Brendon and I have no relationship anymore. The divorce has been finalized. I will start my own life, and it’s none of my business what happens between you from now on. There’s no need for you to hold onto me like this.”
Shannon looked hurt at Ranita’s words.
“I just wanted to show that I care about you,” Shannon said, biting her lip as tears welled up in her eyes. “I appreciate everything you’ve done for Brendon over the years and want nothing but happiness for you…”
Ranita couldn’t take it anymore and interrupted her, “Miss Murphy, I don’t need your concern! And if you can’t understand plain language, maybe go back to elementary school.”
“Ranita…”
“Shannon, stop pretending while Brendon isn’t here!” Ranita snapped before storming off.
Shannon watched Ranita’s slender figure, her eyes filled with a cold glint. How was Ranita so lucky? She had taken a fall at Sugar Media previously and didn’t suffer any consequences! Shannon had been hoping for Ranita to have a miscarriage at every moment!
Outside Bulgari Hotel…
Brendon stared at Steve with a heavy gaze; he didn’t understand how things had come down this path.
“Sure,” Steve agreed. This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
Without any further words, the two of them went to their usual private room at the club. After they were seated, Steve poured himself a drink and lit a cigarette. With an air of nonchalance, he said, “Not at the moment, but who knows in the future!”
