Branch Ninety Five
“But I’m not sad about the divorce. I might lived a loveless poor marriage with Burke had I gotten into the marriage with him. It is at least good if I have my lifelong dream come to pass” she continued staring into space.
“I am sorry that because of me others would refer to you as a divorced woman,” Xavier said.
Maybe he did not think it through at the beginning. Maybe living together won’t be a bad idea. They could be together and then she would not have the need to be ostracized out of the society after her divorce.
“You do not have to worry about me. I am good with anything I get for now” Jessica said resuming back to her meal. “I must actually confess your meal is very well made. Would you make breakfast tomorrow too?” she asked as she watched him stand up at the table where he was working.
He came back with a notepad and pen and dropped the notebook in her front.
“Write down things you wanted to do in your perfect marriage and I would do it for you. I might be unable to give you a perfect marriage but I can give you memories” he said handing her the pen.
“Things I wanted to do?” she asked giggling a little.
“Yes,” he said confused as to why she was giggling. Was his gesture funny or did it not make sense?
“Well, you would have to fall in love with me to do some of those things because they are extremely romantic and intimate,” Jessica said.
She did not need to hide anything from him. They agreed to be friends and soon before they found tell they would be divorced.
“And if you do those things for me I might be tempted not to leave you at all,” she said bowing her head. “I’ll fall for you,” she said in a whisper.
“Then write down the least of the romantic things and I will try my best to do them for you. As friends” he said cutting her rant.
“Must I?”
“It’s the least I can do and it would relieve me of the guilt I would feel” he explained.
“Okay,” she sighed as she pulled the notepad and began to write. This may be her only chance to experience anything related to romance in her life so she better do it as much as she could.
She wrote down a list of things she envisioned doing together with Burke. She slid the note back to him and dropped the pen on it.
He picked up the notepad and read through it. “I would do these within the year at random times”
She did not expect it but if he was saying he would do it then she wanted to wait and watch how well it would go.
“Can we finish dinner now? It’s probably so cold already” she told him and she picked back her fork.
“Cheers?” Xavier said titling his cup to her.
“For?” she asked confused at the sudden cost.
“To us”
“I’ll do the dishes tonight so you can sleep well,” Xavier said clearing the island.
“I’ll leave it to you. I think it would be best if I do not put the hand in water at least for tonight” she said walking to the bathroom.
At least she had to change for the night. She quickly did her night routine and came back out to meet him cleaning his hand on a kitchen napkin.
“I see you’ve gotten a hang of doing the dishes now,” Jessica said moving to the bed.
“I am a fast learner and I am perfect there is literally nothing that I can’t learn” Xavier boasted.
She tsked at him and shook her head. “If you have any laundry you would like to do then you can put it out,” she said dressing down the blanket on the bed.
“Why?” he asked.
“I plan to do my laundry tomorrow and I can include yours too,” she said.
She brought enough clothes to last only three days and if they were going to be there all week then she needed more.
“What’s the reason you are doing laundry here?” he asked confused.
“I did not bring enough clothes” she confessed. “So I need to wash them so I can use them”
“I don’t need anything washed. They can wait till I get home” he told her as he walked towards the bathroom.
“Okay then,” she said as she climbed into bed. Like last night she wanted to sleep before he climbed into bed.
He had done enough romantic things that were worth falling for in one night. If he did any more she might be unable to resist him and maybe jump him at once. She closed her eyes and began to think of things that could make her sleep quickly.
She was in dreamland when Xavier finally came to bed. He watched her for a moment and then laid down and not before setting an alarm for himself. He had a lot to do before she woke up the following morning.
“Can you pick that up” Jessica grumbled as she hit Xavier multiple times. He stirred in bed and sat up straight turning off the alarm and rubbing his sleepy eyes vigorously.Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.
He sighed and got out of bed. He picked up the list that Jessica had written out the previous day. He needed to at least do some of the things written on it.
He got out of the house when the sun was barely out and drove down to the city. He bought some flowers and got some takeout for eggs pancakes bacon and coffee.
He bought some dresses because he remembered the conversation thru had last night about her not having enough clothes. He got as many as he could touch while trying to get her size.
With his purchases he was satisfied. The first thing on her list was to be woken up with breakfast in bed and he was going to do just that. He got back and was glad to see that she was still sound asleep.
He poured out the food he bought into several plates and arranged it into a tray. He gets a vase from one of the compartments and puts the flowers in it and puts it on the tray.
He lays out the clothes he got on the couch and then proceeds to brew a pot of coffee. That was something he knew how to do well and he was glad to be sharing it with her.
“What are you doing?” she said.
He turned to see her. Her hair was all over the place and her voice hoarse. She rubbed her eyes gently and yawned a little.
He took the tray and brought it to her. “Breakfast in bed”
