After Death, Love Unveiled (Elara and Lysander)

Chapter 271

Elara looked at him coldly and said, "Do you think I wanted to come? If it hadn't been for you using Lysander's situation to bait me, I wouldn't have come."

On the hospital bed, Asher asked, "Do you love him that much?"

Hearing such nonsense, Elára wasn't polite with him and replied "I don't love him; should I love you instead?"

Asher said, "He is indeed more suitable for you than I am."

"I don't need you to say that!" she said.

Asher said, "I have loved you."

"Who cares?" Elara replied.

Asher said, "I meant in the last time. You found my mother's contact information, and I was touched. If it hadn't been for what happened when I went to Starfield City to find her, she wanted to send me off to someone else; I might have liked you. After returning from Starfield City, I suddenly lost all my drive and pride. I forgot how proud I once was. All I wanted was money; all I wanted was to stand out. I thought that if I had money, everything would be different.

"Maybe even my mother wouldn't hate me so much. So, over time, I became someone I didn't even recognize."

By the end, Asher lay in bed, his face filled with sorrow. "Why?" he asked. "Why is it that some children are never loved from the moment they're born? I often wonder if I committed some unforgivable sin, something so terrible that it destroyed the world. Otherwise, why does no one love me?"

Elara ended up staying in the ward longer than she had expected. Asher shared many things with her. In the end, lying in bed, his condition critical, he continued to call out for his mother.

"Mom, Mom..." At that moment, he didn't seem like an adult but like a child. He was a child who had never received love; even though he later became successful and his QuickClip videos were still popular, he never escaped the cage of his broken family.

Lysander was in his study while JoJo was in his room. Aubrey and Violet had come over, and after soothing him for a while, JoJo finally quieted down a bit.

Magnus walked in and said, "Mr. Hawthorne."

Lysander asked, "Elara hasn't come back yet?"

Magnus hesitated momentarily before replying, "She went to the hospital. Asher is sick and staying there, so she visited him."

Lysander lowered his head and said to Magnus, "I understand. You may leave now

"Shall I go pick up Mrs. Hawthorne?" Magnus asked.

"No need," Lysander said. "I trust her." Although he said this, his heart ached terribly. The slightest attention she gave Asher was enough to drive him crazy. But, he had learned to be a stable and understanding partner instead of getting upset over every little thing like he used to.

As Magnus heard Lysander's words and stepped out, he had just descended the stairs when he saw Lysander coming out. "Mr. Hawthorne?"

Lysander said. "I'm going to pick her up!" He ditched being an understanding partner, he would never be understanding when it came to Elara's matters.

Lysander's car stopped at the hospital's entrance. He had planned to go inside but stopped when he saw Elara coming out She stood at the door, looking up at the sky as if lost in thought

Lysander walked up to her and said, "Elara,"

Elara finally shifted her gaze. Her eyes were red from crying, and there was still a trace of tears lingering in them. The tears blurred her vision, making the figure in front of her appear fragmented and distant.

Elara was slightly surprised when she saw him and asked, "Why are you here?"

Lysander, not wanting to admit he was jealous, replied, "I was passing by."

Elara looked at Lysander thoughtfully, and Asher's words echoed

Lysander killed me with his own hands after you died!"

'I tried to warn him; he had a bright future ahead, and there was no need to dirty his hands for someone like me.

But for you, he was willing to sacrifice his future!

'Elara, he loves you!'

"To lose to him, I deserve it!'

'Elara, if things would rewind, how wonderful would that be.'

Lysander felt a little lost as Elara looked at him. He had no idea what she and Asher had talked about. Her expression seemed complicated, and he couldn't quite understand it. All he could do was suggest, "Shall we go back?" "Why didn't you tell me?" Elara asked as she saw him turn to leave.

Lysander froze momentarily, then turned back to look at Elara. What is it?"

"Didn't you say you remembered everything from our past? You know about my relationship with Asher and how he treated

me."

Lysander nodded. "Yes. Haven't we already talked about this?"

Elara looked at him, her voice soft but filled with emotion. "I know about the revenge you took for me." She would never have known if Asher hadn't said those things.

She never realized that, in their previous encounters, Lysander had once chosen her so firmly. She had never known how deeply Lysander truly valued her-more than life itself.

Hearing Elara's words, Lysander froze for a moment. He had thought her reaction was because of Asher but didn't expect it to be because of him.

He looked at Elara and said, "I just had a dream, and I don't remember the details clearly. Please don't take it too seriously."

"Alright." Elara stepped forward and said, "Let's go back." She reached out and took his hand. Some things, it seemed, no longer needed to be said.

On the way back, Elara informed Dana and her mother to come to the hospital to handle Asher's situation. After Asher arrived in Starfield City, he had severed contact with his father.

Now, Dana and Edith were lys only family in Starfield City. Since he had left, naturally, it was his family who would help him handle these matters. Although Edith was indifferent, Dana was more understanding. She immediately agreed to come over as soon as she received the call. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.

Elara and Lysander also attended Asher's funeral. Very few people came to bid him farewell, and his family members were

also scarce.

Edith stood nearby, noticing Elara and Lysander. Her attitude was polite as she said, "Thank you for coming to see him off." It seemed she hadn't lost a son but just an indifferent figure.

Elara told Edith about Asher's final moments in the hospital. Upon hearing this, Edith sighed and said. "He always seemed so cold. I had no idea about him, and it's all my fault."

Seeing her pretentious attitude, Elara remained silent. As she was leaving, she ran into Daphne.

Daphne was wearing a hat and looked quite haggard. Elara heard Asher freeze her finances after she and him parted ways. Over the past few years, Daphne had been living in miserable conditions. When Daphne saw Elara, a flicker of hope appeared in her eyes. "Elara, long time no see."

Elara replied, "Yes, it's been a long while, Daphne."

Daphne looked at Elara, her voice somewhat shy, and asked, "Elara, could you lend me some money? I know you're well off. Or could you give me a job?"

Elara looked at her with an air of expectation and said, "Sorry, we're not that close." As she spoke, she raised her head, looked at Lysander, and said, "Let's go." Lysander took her hand and left with her.

In the evening, they and JoJo returned to the Hawthorne family. Wyatt had been feeling unwell lately, so Elara and Lysander visited him.

He was lying in bed, and whenever he was sick, he looked particularly downcast. The doctor had said his mood was relatively low and that he might be showing signs of depression.

Lysander looked at Wyatt with a helpless sigh. "Here, take this." He pulled a notebook out of his pocket and handed it to him.

Wyatt asked, "What's this?"

Lysander said, "It's my mother's journal. Take a look. She had written about you."

Upon hearing this, Wyatt trembled as he reached out and took the journal. He had always believed that Yessenia had no feelings for him.

As he flipped through the pages, Wyatt saw many entries about himself. It was then that he realized Yessenia had once loved him. Holding the journal, Wyatt was filled with a sense of deep emotion.

Elara and Lysander stepped out. She looked at him and said, "I can't believe you would give that to your dad!"

"He looks pretty pitiful, too," Lysander said. Since Yessenia's departure, Wyatt had never forgiven himself, not for a single day. As he grew older, he remained trapped in the same regrets. It was a sad sight. In the end, Lysander's heart couldn't help but soften. While they were talking, JoJo ran over, holding his toy car. "Mommy, can I sleep with you tonight?"

"No way," Lysander said with a dark expression. "How old are you? Still wanting to sleep with your mommy? Aren't you

embarrassed?*

Jojo shot Lysander a glare and then hugged Elara. "You're so old and still sleeping with my mommy!"

Seeing that the two were about to argue again, Elara quickly intervened. "Alright, alright, let's
