Chapter 29: The Reason He Was Late

Chapter 29: The Reason He Was Late

"Are you free tomorrow night?"

"Tell me what you want to do first."

"There's a charity auction tomorrow night," Alvera told him. "I want something there, but as you know,

I'm broke now. Can you buy it for me?"

Roland looked at her and frowned, "What tricks are you playing again?"

"If I'm playing tricks, I wouldn't wait for you for two hours here. Of course, if you're convinced that I am,

then that's fine too." She put her hands together with a smile. "Please."

...

Roland stood up. "We'll see how tomorrow. I can accompany you if I have the time."

"It's fine if you don't have the time, I can just bid for it. You just have to pay."

He glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, ignoring her.

"Right, I'll take that as a yes, then." She clapped her hands. "Waitress, pack this up."

Roland looked at the plates on the table that barely had any leftovers on them. "What is there to pack

up?"

"The soup is good, I can heat up up for dinner and have it with instant noodles."

"Having instant noodles in your condition? I thought you hired a housekeeper."

Alvera shrugged. "Becky is on leave today."

When Roland returned to the company, Terry was waiting for him.

The two of them entered the office together. Terry handed him a folder. "Boss, here's the information

you asked for."

...

"I just heard that Mr. Antoine is back," Terry said, as Roland began to open the folder.

Roland's expression turned cold. "Who allowed him to come back?"

"I'm... I'm not sure."

Roland said coldly, "Tell him to meet me."

"Yes, sir."

After Terry went out, Roland opened the folder.

It contained Alvera's academic reports during her time at Calgary Middle School.

Roland was surprised at her academic record.

She was the top of her garde for three years in a row.

His expression darkened as he frowned. This was the report of a high-achieving student, but according

to Thomas Earhart, Alvera was a bad student and often got into trouble by abusing the Earhart family's

influence.

...

He pinched the space between his eyebrows and felt uncomfortable for some reason.

When Alvera got home, she received a call from Andrina.

"How does it feel to be waiting for someone?" She asked.

Alvera's expression was cold and emotionless. She did not answer her.

"Do you know why he was late for lunch just now?" Andrina continued. "He was with me. I told him I

wanted some desserts from downtown, so he drove all the way there and bought some for me. He

watched me finish before he left."

Alvera sneered. "So, you are here to gloat?"

"I'm warning you, Roland is mine."

Alvera curled her lips slightly. "Really? Andrina, I might as well tell you. I don't care about Roland

Francois at all, but because of you, I'll try my best to seduce him. Hold on to him tightly, because I want

you to watch him fall in love with me."

She hung up without waiting for Andrina's response.

Her hatred for Roland deepened further as she recalled that she had waited for him for two hours just

now.

The next evening, Alvera attended the auction in a sleeveless black dress with light makeup and a pair

of high heels that were at least 3 inches high. Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.

She texted Roland to let him know that she had arrived, and that if he couldn't make it, send someone

with a credit card.

...

Roland turned up right before 6:00.

He sauntered in from the front door gracefully with his hands in his pockets.

His appearance caused quite a stir.

He found Alvera in the last row with a just quick glance into the crowd.

She was so beautiful today that many people found it hard to take their eyes off her.

He sat down by Alvera and crossed his legs.

Alvera pouted. "I didn't expect you to come in person."

"What did you have you eye on?"

"The third item. It's not up yet."

Roland picked up the auction list and flipped through it. The third item was a wooden carving of a

giraffe by an unknown artist.

When did auction houses start selling these kind of things?

"What's so special about this?"

She smiled. "This was my grandfather's work. It was mine originally."
