Chapter 1470
She gazed over at Yonas' direction and found him smiling sheepishly. Waverly instantly felt for the woman in his family.
Men really did take things for granted, and loved going out of the way to impress ladies they barely knew, even for a short period of time. If they eventually got married, would the sincerity from before remain? Waverly predicted he would definitely, one day, regret his capriciousness!
Waverly was more interested in the mysterious Dark Knight Lewis than the Little Yama before her.
It was pretty great for a woman to be that capable. At least to Waverly, it was definitely better than prostitution!
Everyone present shared the same sentiment.
After a few exchanges, Kyle and the other person moved on to another location. Since they had been interrupted, there was no use digging up on old accounts. Thus, the built-up tension from before would naturally fade away.
The auction, which had come to a standstill, then began ceremoniously.
Waverly distanced herself from Wyatt. She, who used to cuddle with him for warmth, had become wary of anyone's actions and behavior. To Waverly, a simple hug was no longer considered intimate. In other words, whatever Wyatt's actions were they were done to take advantage of her. He was a beast!
Therefore, she subconsciously kept her distance from him.
How could the obvious change in her behavior not be noticed by Wyatt? For the most part of the day, one did the approaching while the other avoided; one chased while the other dodged.
"Waverly..."noveldrama
Wyatt pulled her body close to him with a hand. As he was about to say something, a trail of light shone towards him, followed by an announcement that caught him by surprise.
■740,000! No. 19!"
They looked at each other, stunned. It was only then Waverly noticed that Wyatt's other hand was held up high. And coincidentally, the number called was the same as the number card on his sleeve. Waverly frowned as Wyatt's mind went blank.
This could be considered an accident if done once, but could the same be said if done twice?
Wasn't this too great of a coincidence?
He had clearly remembered placing the number card away. So, how did it appear on his sleeves?
It all happened only because Wyatt wanted to give Waverly a hug while standing, and the reason for his raised hand was because he was trying to remove the strand of fallen hair and feathers from Waverly's short hair.
Everyone had their eyes fixated on them as the announcer repeated the winner of the bid once again.
Feeling wronged and full of resentment, Waverly shoved Wyatt. This angered him, his expression darkening in an instant.
He tore the number card off his sleeve, and thought to himself in disbelief, "Why is nothing going my way tonight?"
As he was examining the number card, he tried placing it back onto his body, just to find out that the card easily stuck on, like a magnet. This meant that it would stay on him even as he walked around!
It was only after tugging at the card once more that he finally understood - the edge of the number card had been torn, leaving marks similar to glue residue. The coat he was wearing was layered with a fur-like thick outer layer. Thus, when the coat came in contact with the
number card, they would both stick
to each other firmly.
Wyatt closed his eyes to calm himself down while thinking to himself, "What the
hell!"
Thinking hard, he finally understood
how it all happened. It all started when he was having a fit with Waverly, and he was not aware of where he had placed the number card, or how it got onto him, so in short, it was a blunder. The second time round, to prevent the same mishap from happening, he placed the number card at the bar behind him, so even if he were to come close to the card, and it happened to be stuck on him, as long as he did not raise his hands, nothing would happen.
Recalling this, Wyatt presumed the number card had stuck onto him when the waiter serving wine accidentally bumped into him and stained his coat. Perhaps as the waiter was apologizing and cleaning up in a hurry, the number card which was placed face downwards with the sticky end facing up, had effectively stuck onto the back of his sleeve while he was moving about
and adjusting his posture. This was indeed a blunder!
Disheartened, Wyatt could only blame himself for being unlucky that night!
Every time they were just about to get intimate with each other, the lights would shine on them. Glancing over at Waverly, who was obviously embarrassed and looking like she was about to burst into tears broke Wyatt's heart.
Whatever it was, his current posture definitely made it seem like he was trying to humiliate her in public - with his arms around her while he bid for another woman. Wyatt blamed it all on his cursed luck. He decided to ignore the auction as he reached out to embrace Waverly in front of everyone.
"Waverly..."
As Wyatt was about to apologize, he realized that the words "I'm sorry" would not cut it - it was simply too insincere. He had asked her out to make her happy, yet with all these unexpected ordeals happening, he was sure she felt the complete opposite. Feeling apologetic and frustrated, he softened his voice.
"I didn't do it on purpose!"
As soon as he said it, he couldn't help but sigh. Three mistakes in a night; how unlucky could he get? Even he himself could feel the lack of persuasion and sincerity from his short explanation.
Waverly could not help but ponder whether it truly was an accident. How could things be so coincidental that he won both bids?
A woman and man's mindset was definitely different; words such as bad luck' or 'unlucky' uttered by men would be substituted with words such as 'fate' or 'destiny' by women.
What do you think?
