Dulcie returned her smile.
Thanks, Lucinda, Ill keep that in mind.
Her eyes then shifted to Destinee, who was nestled in Lucindas arms.
No more tears, alright? Otherwise, Ill be too worried to heal. Do you understand? Destinee sniffled and wiped her eyes.
I promise, no more crying.
With that, the four of them left, and as the door closed behind them, the air in the room grew thick with tension once again.
Dulcie tried to get up, her body stiff with pain.
She was determined to retreat to her room, but every movement sent sharp aches through her back, and her swollen ankle only made things worse.
Kyson, lounging on the sofa behind her, didnt so much as lift a finger to help.
Gritting her teeth, Dulcie forced herself to stand.
The pain was unbearable, and cold sweat dotted her forehead as she used all her strength to climb the stairs.
Dulcie! Sallys voice rang out just as she returned from seeing Lucinda, Nathan, and the children off.Her eyes widened in panic as she spotted Dulcie struggling on the stairs.
She rushed over to help her, her steps quick and urgent.
Hearing Sallys sudden shout, Kyson looked up, noticing Dulcie struggling painfully to ascend the stairs.
His frown deepened, and without hesitation, he moved toward her.
Before Sally could reach her, Kyson had already stepped in, scooping Dulcie up into his arms.
But as soon as his arms encircled her, a sharp, unbearable pain shot through her back.
Ouch! Dulcie gasped, her voice laced with agony. Beads of cold sweat formed on her brow, the pain was so intense it felt as if someone were hammering nails into her bones, while a blade sliced through every inch of her skin.
It was excruciating.
It hurts… Kyson… please, put me down… Her words were barely more than whispers, squeezed through clenched teeth, every syllable a testament to the torment she was in.
Kyson, hearing her broken voice, finally noticed her ghostly pale complexion.
Just how badly was she hurt? Alarmed, Kyson quickly set her down, instinctively guiding her trembling hand to rest on his shoulder for balance.
Sally, watching from nearby, was taken aback.
Dulcie, you said you just fell while skating, right? How did you end up hurt this badly? Dulcie, still reeling from the pain, could only shake her head in response.
With Kysons support, she began the slow and painful climb upstairs.
What do you think?
