Chapter 34
Even as he tried to hide it his facials disappointed him. Jaxton needed no soothsayer to tell him his brother wasn’t actually here for a short conversation.
Paxton wasn’t one to leave his office without a date and time already scheduled, he has his way of doing things. Owing to the fact that they’re brothers they couldn’t boast of good communication together. Their conversations are always done on telecommunications unless it’s important only down will it lead to Paxton’s office to talk.
Jaxton knew Paxton didn’t come for good at least that was what his expectations were implicating. His eyes were up and red with rage and his face was plain horror. Even as he tried to smile you would take it as him glaring at you.
“Coffee then” Jaxton murmured to himself, tapped the number on the telecom and placed the telephone on his ear. “Make me two cups of coffee.” He said as soon as he heard the secretary’s voice.
“Okay sir.” The secretary replied and hurried out of her seat.
“What important project must have brought you here, tell me.” Jaxton said in a relaxed tone.
“Nothing business related, just slightly though” he began. Jaxon passed him a lewd look and held his chin.
“I’m starting to get scared” his tone was flat, “is it a personal issue? Nah, I don’t want to talk about it.” He had to decline as he had already figured it to be about Sydney cause according to him it isn’t business related.
“You can’t even wait to hear me out. Anyways I would hit straight to the point” he said calmly looking at Jaxton to see if he would decline again. “What do you have with Sydney?” His long awaited question came.
With scurried brows Jaxton replied, “what we all have with her which is ‘work’.” He said emphasizing on the work.
A laugh erupted from Paxton’s throat, “do not play with me Jaxton, I am better with words too.”
“What do you want to hear, Paxton? That she’s my fling or probably another one of my sex machines?” His tone was dead serious and this was starting to infuriate Paxton.
“Sort of- But you’re getting too close to this one that’s beginning to get me worried. Do you even know her?”
“Don’t start Paxton, I know of your constant bullies-”
“My first encounter with that lady wasn’t pleasant atall, she’s a club girl and rips naughty guys like you off their money. She’s a golddigger can’t you see!!” He was forced to yell.
“I don’t see it and I never want to!” He shouted back. “shouldn’t concern yourself with my personal issues.” Jaxton said aggressively, he was very close to bashing the table but had to stop himself therefore clenching his fist.
“I am just watching out for you, you should really avoid that woman, she’s too sneaky.”
“You’ve never been this serious about my lifestyle, why now? Wait.. do you like her?” He cornered his eyes at Paxton and sniggered.
“Of-course not-why will you even say that! I am just watching out for you because you’re my brother, my twin.” He said in a rebuffed manner.Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
“Definitely!” He kissed his teeths and took a while before opening his mouth to speak. “I appreciate you alot brother but I didn’t ask for any of that and besides… Sydney is just an employee whom we both find favour in her eyes, apart from that I do not have anything with her.” His eyes peeked at him calmly.
Of-course, he was enjoying the reaction he was getting from Paxton, at least his thoughts are verified now. Paxton has developed a liking for Sydney and he’s so careless in showing it.
“Driving her to the office and walking in together is an employer and employee relationship? Pfft.. I am not interested in whatever is going on with you two but the fact that we will both get affected when she strikes.”
“Whatever you say Paxton, Sydney is no such person and need I remind you that we are not in a romantic relationship, get your facts right before pointing fingers.” Jaxton flared.
“You don’t even know her well to say that, that woman is a snake-”
“One more offensive word, Paxton!” Jaxton riled, “it’s about time you leave.”
“When the time comes don’t say I didn’t warn you” Paxton said in a serious note and rose up to his feets, barging out of the office.
He trailed down the office passage, his lips buckled in as he tried to surpass his anger.
“Please send this to the manager’s office,” The instructor said, giving Sydney a binded file. She collects it and proceeds to the manager’s office.
“The doors are opening” the programmed voice in the elevator informed. She stepped out and trembled when her eyes fell on an angry Paxton strolling the office passage.
Her heart made a loud bang, she wasn’t expecting to see Paxton and seeing how gloomy and red his face was she knew better to avoid him. She recounted her steps back and heaved a sigh of relief when the elevator closed.
Sweat dripped from her brow as she watched the fading figure of Paxton. Unknown to her she didn’t press any key.
Paxton strained his neck backwards as he had noticed an unusual movement. The elevator doors opened and Sydney almost screamed out when she met Paxton’s stern gaze.
“Fucking unlucky!” She cursed within herself, biting her lips in frustration.
“Sydney Shepherd!!” Paxton barked, sending raw fear into her. His eyes bored into hers and he murmured to himself, “Here lies the pain in my ass”
The taste of bile rose to her mouth and she swallowed, the acid rising and burning her throat.
“I-I-” she searched for words to say but none came in.
“You sneaky woman, can you even afford an elevator? You spite me, your ways all of it, get out of my face you filth!!” He growled at her, pouring out all his anger on her.
Sydney was closed to tears, the tension of the atmosphere was the scent of rot and decayed destruction crawling into her soul.
