Contract 9

Elijah's lips hovered just inches from hers. She could feel his breath fanning against her cheek as she closed her eyes. Fiona could feel her pulse quicken. How was he able to convince her to lo this? She wondered inwardly. However, the kiss she expected never came Before she could respond to his challenge about the kiss, there was a sudden knock on the door.
Hearing the knock, it was as if a bolt of lightning hit Fiona. She straightened her hack and composed herself as she watched Regor walked inside the room, his expression grim.
"Your Highness, there's a situation downstairs. The Alpha and Luma have requested your immediate presence, and they insist that Lady Fiona accompany you," Regor said.
Elijah's gaze darkened as he pulled back, the playful glint in his eyes was immediately replaced by a cold glint. "What's happened?" he asked. Despite the change in his expression, his voice remained calm.
Regor hesitated, glancing at Fiona before continuing. "It's about Miss Carrie. The healers have reported a sudden worsening of her condition. There are whispers among the pack... some are saying that Lady Fiona had a hand in it."
Fiona felt her heart plummet. Her worst fears were coming true She could already feel the pack turning against her. Whoever was responsible for this scheme must have really wanted to stop her from leaving this place.
Elijah's expression remained unreadable as he turned to Fiona Let's go," he said, his tone leaving no room for argument.
As they descended to the main hall, Fiona couldn't stop her heart from beating even faster. If the pack truly believed she had harmed Carrie, they would never let her leave with Elijah. They would demand justice, and in their eyes, justice could mean her death. To her surprise, Elijah suddenly stopped walking and looked at her. "I can hear your heartbeat, he uttered.
Cara pressed her lips together. Was this his way of telling her to calm down?
Just as she expected, he quickly added. "I am here. There is no need to worry."
When they arrived, the room was already filled with members of the pack, their expressions ranging from suspicion to outright hostility. Zach stood at the center, his face a mask of fury, while Alpha Cris and Luna Kimberly looked on with barely concealed contempt. "Why was I not informed that everyone would come? Is the pack celebrating something?" Elijah's voice cut through the tension like a blade.
Zach stepped forward, his eyes locked on Fiona. Ignoring Elijah he said. "Carrie's condition has worsened, and the healers say the baby is at risk. It's too convenient that this happened right after Fiona's little stunt," he spat, his voice dripping with venom "She wanted to sabotage my future as Alpha, and now she's trying to destroy my family."
Fiona felt a cold sweat break out on her skin. "That's not true," she said, her voice trembling despite her efforts to stay calm. Then she suddenly felt Elijah's hand on hers. "I would never harm Carrie or her child."
"Then explain how her condition suddenly deteriorated after you spoke to her," Alpha Cris demanded, his voice cold and authoritative. "You are a member of the Rosenthal Family, Fiona Is it possible you used your abilities to harm rather than heal?" Fiona felt her breath catch in her throat. Are they suspecting something? No. Impossible.
When Fiona did not awaken her abilities when she turned 12, everyone knew that she was not the heir of the Rosenthal Family in this generation and accepted it. However, they have never tested her again.

Chapter 9.
So, when Fiona had awakened her abilities two months ago, she was able to keep it a secret from everyone else. And she planned to keep it a secret or she would never be able to leave this place-alive. Her family or the Alpha would never let her leave!
If they kept her here, they would find out the truth about her abilities. She couldn't let that happen. She couldn't stay in this pack, where they would use her just like they tried to use Elise.
She had to think of a way out-quickly.
Elijah's eyes narrowed as he stepped protectively in front of Fiona "Are you trying to undermine my authority little one!?" he said, his voice cold.
Zach frowned, clearly taken aback. Before he could say a word, his father spoke. "Your Highness... this is a matter of life and death. I would appreciate it if we follow the rules of the werewolves and investigate the matter involving Miss Fiona. And since Alpha Cris met Elijah's gray eyes. "Since this concerned my pack, I would appreciate it if his highness would step down and let me handle the matter."
Fiona shivered inwardly. The Alpha was using Elijah's words against him. Now, he is demanding that they follow the werewolf laws. Isn't this hypocritical
And the Alpha even called the others for them to act as witnesses! Fiona couldn't help but feel even more nervous.
"And if I don't?" Elijah suddenly asked. To everyone's surprise, the Prince did not show any signs of being intimidated by the Alpha. Instead, he took a step forward and directly met Alpha Cris's eyes. "Are you going to imprison me.. Alpha Cris of the Crimson Howler pack?" Fiona's throat suddenly felt dry-so dry, she could feel it start to hurt.
Just what is Elijah doing? The laws are clear about this matter. Fiona has yet to leave the pack. She can still be considered a member of the Crimson Howler Pack. This means that the Alpha should have the authority to stop her from leaving under the pretense of investigating the matter further!
However, Elijah's cold gaze remained locked on Alpha Cris, the tension in the room thickening with every passing second. Fiona could barely breathe, her heart pounding so loudly she was certain everyone could hear it. The air was electric, charged with the impending clash of wills between the Alpha and the Prince.
Alpha Cris's eyes narrowed as he regarded Elijah, the challenge in the Prince's words was clear for everyone to hear. The room was silent, everyone waiting for the Alpha's next move. It was clear that the pack leader had not expected such a direct confrontation "Your Highness," Alpha Cris began, his voice measured but tinged with irritation. "This is not about imprisoning anyone. This is about ensuring the safety and well-being of my pack. We cannot overlook the possibility that Fiona-
Elijah interrupted, his voice cutting through the Alpha's words like a knife. "Enough." His tone was firm, leaving no room for further debate. "This is not a matter of pack politics, Alpha Cris. This is about saving a life. And while you've been busy organizing this little spectacle," Elijah's eyes swept over the gathered pack members, "I've already taken steps to ensure Carrie's survival."
A murmur of confusion rippled through the crowd. Alpha Cris s'expression darkened. "What do you mean, Your Highness"
Elijah's smirk returned, a glint of satisfaction in his eyes. "I summoned a healer. One of the most skilled in the kingdom. He arrived at the infirmary shortly after we were informed of Carrie's condition. He's with her now"
The announcement sent shockwaves through the room. Fiona's breath caught in her throat, her eyes widening in surprise. How had Elijah managed to summon a healer so quickly? And more importantly, why hadn't he mentioned this before!
Alpha Cris's face hardened, his gaze narrowing on Elijah. "You had no authority to do that," he said, his voice barely controlled. "This is my pack, and you have overstepped your bounds."

Elijah's expression remained unbothered. "Saving a life takes precedence over your petty squabbles, Alpha. The well-being of a pack member should be your priority, not engaging in baseless accusations against an innocent woman." Zach took a step forward, his face contorted with anger. "This is our pack's matter! You had no right to interfere!"
Elijah's gaze shifted to Zach, his eyes cold and unyielding. "And yet, here we are. While you were busy plotting to accuse Fiona of harming Carrie, I was ensuring that Carrie and her child have the best chance of survival."
The room fell into stunned silence. The pack members exchanged uneasy glances. It was clear that the Prince had taken control of the situation, leaving Alpha Cris and Zach with little ground to stand on. This was akin to a slap on the Alpha's face! Alpha Cris's jaw clenched, his authority challenged in front of his entire pack. "You've crossed a line, Your Highness," he said, his voice low and dangerous..
Elijah took another step forward, his presence commanding the room. "I did what needed to be done. And now, you will do well to remember that Fiona is under my protection!
Fiona's heart skipped a beat as Elijah turned his gaze to her, the intensity in his eyes almost made her forget that they were still in front of a crowd. Without looking away from Fiona, he added. "Fiona and I have reached an agreement. We've signed a contract that binds us together. From this moment on, she is my person' and she will accompany me as I complete the Rite of Kings.
