Chapter 39
“Are you sure she’ll be fine, Doc?” Miles asked the doctor for the umpteenth time over the phone.
“Yes, Mr. Miles. All she need is a good rest, and she’ll come out strong,”
“What about the baby? Are you sure the baby is fine also?”
“You have nothing to worry about. I would’ve told you if the baby was not fine, so it’s nothing to worry about,” He breathed out in relief after the doctor assured him.
“Thank you so much,”
“Alright. I got to go now,” He breathed out again after the call ended, and sank his fingers into his hair while sitting on the edge of the bed.
“What happened to her? Was she assaulted by that bastard again?” Even though the doctor already told him earlier that it wasn’t an assault, he still thought maybe it was something of such, especially as Oscar escaped and was no longer under his custody.
The sound of his ringing phone disrupted his thoughts, and he quickly reached for it and swiped the answer button when he saw that it was Miguel.
“Shoot!”
“Man, I’m a medical doctor and not a private investigator. Why do I have to do this for you?” Miguel whined over the phone, and he rolled his eyes sarcastically. He asked Miguel earlier to help look into May’s case and maybe check the security footage on the street since he was the only one Miles could trust with something like this.
“I don’t have all the time in the world, Miguel. Quit complaining and go straight to the point,”
“Whatever! I didn’t find anything. According to the footage, she just passed out there after she got out of a taxi. I’ll send you the plate number of the taxi after the call,”
“Alright,”
“How is sister-in-law? Is she fine now?”
“Hmm. She is resting in the room,”
“Alright. Call me if you need anything concerning her. I might not come home tonight. There’s a whole lot of work to take care of here,” The call finally disconnected. Barely a minute after the call ended, his phone beeped and a message from Miguel popped on the screen. It was a picture of the taxi and the plate number. He forwarded them to Rob immediately and then dialed his number which he picked up on the first ring.
“Hey, boss,” Rob’s deep voice sounded from the other end.
“I want you to look into what I sent to you. Provide me with information on the driver of the taxi. Don’t forget to include where he lives,” he instructed Rob.
“Alright, boss. I will get to it immediately,”
After the call ended, he left the guestroom and headed to the master’s bedroom where May was staying.
“May? Are you there?” He knocked on the door gently a few times but got no response.
“I’m coming in,” he gently pushed the door slightly and peeped inside. May was lying on the bed with her eyes closed.
“Oh… She’s sleeping,” He whispered as he carefully walked inside and gently closed the door behind him in order not to disturb her sleep.
Miles counted his step to the side of the bed and carefully sat beside her, staring at her beautiful face as she slept like the queen she was.
A smile formed on his lips as his eyes diverted to her flat stomach. The excitement in his heart at the thought of starting a family with this beautiful young lady who had captured his heart.
‘What if she doesn’t like you even after spending three months with her?’ That was his biggest fear even though he had avoided thinking about that all this while. It wasn’t something he could deny not being afraid of.
“It’s nothing to worry about. We’ll cross that bridge when we get there,” He whispered, giving himself hope though there was no guarantee that everything was going to turn out positively.
His phone beeped, and he quickly checked it. It was a text from Rob.
‘Johnson Simon, 43 years old, a single father to three kids. Two boys, and a girl. Wife divorced him three years ago and he had since depended on driving as his only source of income. Lives with his kids in Rita’s estate in the outskirt of the city’ Just like years before when he worked with Rob, he was impressed with his dedication to his job.
He was yet to reply to the message when another one popped in again, and he clicked on it.
‘I forgot to add this. Motorplex park. That’s the name of his park’
He glanced over to May, and smiled again. He carefully pulled the duvet to cover her up before he left the room with his car keys.
The ride to the park took pretty much time and it was already past 6pm by the time he arrived. The park was filled with fleet of cars, and some drivers seemed to have just driven in.
“Excuse me, please,” He walked over to a middle-aged man who had just stepped out of his car.
“Hmm… How many I help you?” The man looked tired and from the look on his face, it seemed like he had a rough day at work. This is the property of Nô-velDrama.Org.
“Is Mr. Johnson around? I would like to see him,” Miles asked politely, earning a long stare from the man.
“Why are you here to see him? Is there any problem?”
“Is he around?” Miles was already getting annoyed by the question he was being asked as he wasn’t in the mood for that.
“I don’t have time to waste with you. Excuse me,” The man walked out on Miles without sparing him another glance.
“What just happened?” Miles huffed unbelievably as he ran his fingers through his hair. Coming to the park, he didn’t know he was going to deal with this kind of rude person, or was he the one that was rude?
“No way!” He quickly defended himself and sighed. If not that he didn’t want to cause trouble, of course he could sort this out his own way, but he wasn’t in the mood for violence, coupled with the fact that the man must’ve been like that because of frustration and tiredness from work. Well, at least he was trying to be considerate of them today even if he wasn’t such a nice person to do such a thing.
He was just about to move on to ask someone else when a car drove in, and fortunately, it was Mr. Johnson.
“Finally!” He breathed out and headed toward the man.
“Excuse me. You must be Mr. Johnson Simon, am I right?” He stood in front of the tired man in his early forties.
“Yes, I am. How may I help you, please?”
“We need to talk about something,” Mr. Johnson’s face dilated in confusion…
