Chapter 48 Strange Looks
Chapter 48 Strange Looks
When I got up in the evening, Evie was already home. When she saw me coming out of the room, she
widened her eyes in shock.
"Why did you come back so early today? Don't you need to work overtime today?"
"I took leave today, so I didn't go to work."
I stretched lazily, yawned, and answered Evie.
"You asked for leave? Really?"
Looking at me in shock, she felt a little incredulous.
I responded faintly. Seeing my unhappy expression, Evie looked at me with a puzzled expression. Content is © by NôvelDrama.Org.
"Where did you go last night? You didn't come home."
"Working overtime."
Hearing Evie's words, the expression on my face froze, and I explained guiltily.
"Working overtime? Why are you lying to me? What company would ask their employees to work the
entire night? Tell me the truth, did you..."
Evie trailed off and raised her eyebrows. Although she didn't finish her sentence, her meaning was very
obvious.
Seeing that Evie had guessed what I had done last night, my face instantly turned red. My expression
became a little unnatural, and I began to feel guilty when I looked at Evie.
"What are you talking about? I was really working overtime last night. I'm hungry, let's go have dinner."
I said those words guiltily, and then no longer paid attention to Evie. I quickly picked up the cutlery and
began to eat.
Evie could be really smart sometimes. If Brandon was going to keep contacting me in the future, I
wouldn't be able to keep our relationship from her. I wondered if she would think less of me when she
discovered my deal with Brandon.
"Hollie, I keep feeling that you've been hiding something from me recently. Are you having any
difficulties lately?"
Halfway through the meal, Evie suddenly raised her head to look into my eyes and asked seriously.
Hearing what she said, my eyes flashed and I looked at her guiltily.
"Why are you asking so suddenly?"
"You've been in a bad mood recently. You're working late every night. You're not acting normally. By
right, a big company like Grizzlimited wouldn't need you to work so late."
Evie put down her chopsticks and looked at me, her voice filled with inquiry.
Indeed, I had been working overtime for more than a week. It was rare to see someone working
overtime for more than a week in other companies, so it was normal for Evie to suspect it.
But I didn't want to tell anyone that I had been taken advantage of by Rudy. With Evie's bad temper, if
she knew that I was being pestered by my boss, she would probably turn up at my office with a kitchen
knife.
"You're overthinking this. The company is a little busy recently, so we have been working overtime."
I said this guiltily and lowered my head again to eat my food.
"Is that true?"
Looking at me from head to toe, she didn't seem to believe me.
"Of course it's true. Alright, you don't have to worry about me. I'm full, so I'll go back to my room to rest
first. I have to get up early and go to work tomorrow."
I didn't let Evie have the chance to question me any further. I finished speaking and quickly retreated
back to my room.
Back in my room, I heaved a long sigh of relief. Lying on the big bed, I began to worry. What would
happen when I get to work tomorrow? Would I really be fired?
Thinking of this, I began to get anxious. I regretted my impulsiveness. I shouldn't have said that to
Rudy. Now I had completed offended him.
Even if I wasn't fired, I wouldn't have a good time in the company in the future. Rudy was narrow-
minded. Now that I've offended him, he would make my life miserable.
With a sigh, I closed my eyes and stopped thinking about this problem. The more I thought about it, the
more irritated I became. I decided to cross that bridge when I arrived.
When I arrived to the company the next day, my colleagues looked at me with gloating expressions. I
didn't know why they were targeting me like this. I didn't do anything to offend them. Was it because
two colleagues saw Rudy forcing me into a hug, and they looked down on me for it?
Although I didn't like their scornful attitudes and cold treatment, I didn't approach them. I just went back
to my seat and started working.
The people around were whispering. I couldn't hear what they were talking about, but I could guess
that they were talking about me because they kept glancing at me.
"Hollie, you're here."
The only colleague who was friendly with me, Aubrey, came up to my place and greeted me.
"Yes."
I nodded to her with a smile. Aubrey was the only colleague in my company who got along well with
me. She was the only one who hadn't ridiculed me during this period of time, and sometimes she would
even help me with my work.
"Hollie, I thought you weren't coming anymore."
Aubrey's seat was right opposite me. She looked up and whispered.
"Why? Why won't I come anymore?"
I frowned and asked in a low voice.
"Don't you know? You didn't come to work yesterday. The supervisor was furious and said that you
didn't abide by the company's rules and didn't ask for leave. So he announced on the spot that he
would fire you. So everyone thought that you wouldn't come to the company again."
Aubrey looked at me with sympathy when she said that, but there was helplessness in her tone.
Hearing her words, I got angry immediately. I did call Rudy to apply for leave. Why did he say that I had
broken the company's rules and skipped work? He had obviously framed me so that he could fire me.
"I called him yesterday morning."
I suppressed the anger in my heart and explained to Aubrey lightly. Although it was useless to explain
to her alone, I didn't want to be misunderstood so easily.
"Hollie, I think the supervisor has been deliberately targeting you recently. And I heard the other
colleagues discussing that you failed to seduce the supervisor and made him angry, so he..."
Aubrey didn't finish her words, but I understood what she meant.
The corner of my mouth curled into a cold sneer. These people were such gossipers. When did they
see me seducing Rudy? I felt sick just looking at an ugly old man like him. Why would I seduce him?
This was ridiculous.
"Aubrey, do you believe what they said? Do you believe that I was the one who seduced the
supervisor?"
I asked her with a cold expression.
