He’s nervous
“It happened before the wedding so our family won’t be responsible for this scandal!” Bryce said angrily in front of the Mondragons.
After the scandal pictures of Irene Mondragon and Joseph Antonete spread, the Desmana Group released an official statement without Bryce’s knowledge and consent.
According to the official statement, the pictures were not real and were made up by people who wanted to bring down the company. The Desmana Group also took responsibility for what happened and said Antonete Enterprise had nothing to do with it.
Even a child knew that the Desmana Group has protected the reputation of the Antonete. And it all happened without Bryce’s consent that’s why he was so angry while facing the board of directors including the Vice President, Bree Mondragon.
Jenica lowered her head and looked around. She could see the gloating in the eyes of the people present inside the meeting room. The only thing she couldn’t read was Bree Mondragon’s face. That woman’s too cunning and too cautious that she remained calm even under Bryce scrutinising gaze.
“But we released a statement to control the situation, Mr. President! The picture has spread on social media, so we better speak up than remain silent. If we didn’t do anything, Antonete might be ahead of us in releasing the statement and the situation will only get worse!”
“Are you implying I should be thankful for your initiative, Mr. Mondragon?” Bryce asked the man who spoke. This was one of the boards of directors who always oppose the President.
The man was silent for a moment. Bryce sneered and roamed his eyes around. “Because you all are eager to protect the Antonete, why don’t you pack your things and enter Antonete Enterprise?”
The man blinked and turned his pleading eyes onto the head of the board’s direction. The old man frowned and was about to speak when Bree Mondragon spoke first, “If that’s the case, go pack your things and don’t come back.”
Everyone looked at Bree with wide eyes except Bryce and Jenica. The man stood, disbelief was written all over his face. “What do you mean, Miss VP?”
“You don’t understand?” Bree asked with a smile and shot a cold look in the man’s direction. “Would you like me to repeat myself?”
Frustrated, the man shook his head and quietly left the meeting room. Bree looked at Bryce and smiled from ear to ear, as if what happened was just dismissing a fly and not a member of the board. “I just dismissed that annoying man, Mr. President. Did I appease your anger now?”
Jenica looked meaningfully at Bree before looking back at Bryce. A small smile played on her lips. That’s it. The woman knew how to retreat to take advantage. Now that the man who was fired earlier has been dismissed, Bryce has no reason to criticize the board of directors for what they did.
Even though Bryce’s temper hadn’t completely appeased, Bryce couldn’t do anything but calm down and plan what to do next. He cleared a throat. “Irene Mondragon has an illicit affair with Joseph Antonete. Since this is the case, I’ll officially dissolve my marriage agreement with Irene. From now on, she and I will no longer be related!”
The room was silent for a few seconds before the board of directors voiced their grievances one by one. They didn’t want to dissolve the marriage agreement because it was said to be a big loss to the company.Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
This time, the head himself raised the grievance. “You can’t do this, Mr. President! Irene is a Mondragon. Is it a bit inappropriate to dissolve your marriage agreement with her?”
Bryce smiled. “Inappropriate? When that woman slept with that bastard, did she think it was inappropriate?”
The head wanted to speak but Bree shut him up, so he could only keep quiet. The woman then looked at Bryce. “If the president wants to dissolve the marriage agreement, we can’t do anything about it. After all, it was Irene who cheated first.”
Jenica raised her eyebrows at Bree’s words. The head of the board of directors frowned and the members looked at each other. The head of the board lowered his voice and asked Bree, “Do you agree with the President’s idea?”
Bree smiled and nodded. “Let’s just agree to the president so we can still maintain the harmony. All right?”
The board of directors could only nod. But even though the board of directors finally agreed, it still didn’t stop Bryce’s face from darkening. These old geezers! They listen more to the Vice President than to him, the President?
Bryce laughed sarcastically. “Then it’s settled! Irene Mondragon and I will have nothing to do with each other from now on! Meeting adjourned!”
Bryce face was dark as he marched out of the meeting room. Jenica stood and was about to follow him when Bree stopped her. The latter looked at the board of directors, and they quickly exited the room, until it’s only Jenica and Bree who were left inside.
Bree spoke first. “How much did he pay you to work for him?” she asked.
Jenica raised her eyebrows at her words and looked at the woman. Even though she was sitting, the cold elegance couldn’t hide Bree Mondragon’s aura as a leader. Jenica coughed a bit. “What do you mean, Ms. Mondragon?”
“Don’t play dumb with me. I don’t know who you are but I know that you have the ability.” Bree stood and looked at her over. “You support that man but look at you, he can’t give you a position in the company. With your intellect, it’s not hard to know that within this company, I hold more power than him. So I give you the chance to choose whose master would you like to follow. A powerless master or me?” Bree smiled before turning and leaving the meeting room.
Jenica’s deep gaze followed Bree’s back until the woman was out of sight. That’s when Jenica’s lips curled up. She chuckled and shook her head.
Oh, so that’s the reason why Bree Mondragon was showing off earlier. The woman wanted to poach her out of Bryce’s control.
Well, Jenica could admit that she admired Bree for having the guts to fight head-on with the company’s president.
Suddenly, the meeting room’s door opened and a man peered inside. “Miss Jane,” he called. “Mr. President is looking for you.”
Jenica nodded and followed Bryce’s bodyguard. When she entered his office, she couldn’t help but raised her eyebrows.
The office was full of mess. There were many broken bottles and papers scattered on the floor. Jenica looked at the man sitting behind the table. His eyes were closed and his head was leaning against the headrest of the swivel chair.
“Did she offer you a price?” Bryce asked tiredly. He didn’t even look at her or sit properly.
Jenica walked closer to the big table and sat in the chair opposite it. She looked at the man with a small smile on her lips. “Yes.”
That’s when Bryce opened his eyes and looked at her. “You—”
“I didn’t,” Jenica said with a smile. “I told you that I am not after the position in the company.”
Bryce looked deeply at her. “Tell me what you really want,” he said.
She chuckled. “You will know soon,” she said and looked at the scattered items on the floor. “Cancelling your marriage agreement with Irene is just the beginning. We haven’t started colliding head-on with the Antonete and you can’t keep your calm. Mr. President, you seem impatient nowadays,” she joked.
Bryce snorted. “Help me get rid of those bastards!”
Jenica shook her head. “Then let’s watch the show.”
The ‘show’ that Jenica referred to happened a few days after the Desmana Group released a statement canceling the marriage agreement of Desmana and Mondragon.
The sun has just risen in the east but the servants in the mansion were already worried about the coming guest.
According to the butler, the head of the Mondragon clan, Grey Mondragon, will be visiting from the South with his wife, Samantha. Even children knew why they would visit so the atmosphere inside the mansion became tense. The Desmanas also wake up early to prepare.
“Don’t leave the room until later. I’ll let someone deliver your food in your room,” said Bryce.
Jenica looked at the man. “What are you planning this time?”
“Grey Mondragon knows you exist and he’ll question you in front of my family.”
“Oh?” She chuckled. “Isn’t that great then? You can clear my name of any malicious motives.”
Bryce turned to her. The expression on his face was unreadable. After a while, the man sighed. “Don’t be too impulsive. I don’t know if it’s only about the canceled marriage agreement or it’s about the Desmana Group.”
“Why guess?” Jenica looked at the rising sun in the east. “When he’s here for both?”
Before Bryce could speak again, they heard quick footsteps going to the balcony where they were. Soon a hurried servant appeared at the door.
“Sir Bryce! Sir Joseph Antonete will visit today with Miss Irene Mondragon. Maam Lynet just received a message and Maam is telling you to get ready,” said the maid.
Bryce’s two eyebrows met and he raised his hand. The servant bowed before saying goodbye and disappearing from sight. Jenica glanced at the man whose face was darker than the bottom of a pot.
“I never thought that Lynet has a way to contact those two,” she said, laughing at Bryce’s face that looked like he had eaten a bad meal.
Lynet Mondragon, the daughter-in-law of the Desmanas. The woman is the wife of one of Bryce’s brothers.
Bryce said that Desmana’s daughter-in-law is a good woman but she thinks otherwise. Lynet is a cunning and clever woman. She knows how to retreat and when to advance and there are several times the woman borrow the mouth of the Desmanas to attack Jenica, like what happened at the dinner table a few nights ago when she was forced to sign the questionable confidentiality agreement.
That woman is a Mondragon, so even if Bryce and Irene’s wedding is cancelled, the relationship between the two clans will not be broken. This is also the reason why Bree agreed to cancel the marriage agreement of the Bryce and Irene without hesitation.
“Lynet has a reason why she’s still contacting Irene.” Bryce sighed again. “She and Irene came from the same clan so it’s not surprising to know it but that bastard…” His fist clenched.
Jenica shrugged. “There’s a good show to watch,” she said, smirking, though she’s skeptical of Bryce’s assumption on Lynet and Irene’s ‘close’ relationship.
At ten o’clock in the morning, Grey Mondragon arrived at the mansion with Samantha. The two only brought two bodyguards but from their stance and posture it could be seen that it was not just any bodyguard. These men were martial artist experts!
Jenica’s eyes narrowed as she looked at the screen. She followed Bryce’s order to stay inside the room because she didn’t want the two guests to see her evem under the disguise of Code X. She hadn’t forgotten how these two treated her as a disposable pawn while she’s working in the South.
She had planted hidden cameras in every corner of the mansion so even if she locked herself in the room, she could still see what’s happening in the living room. It’s a pity she didn’t install a voice recorder so she couldn’t hear what they were talking about.
Jenica sighed. Bryce didn’t know about those hidden cameras so she could’t ask him a favor to activate his phone’s microphone to record their voices.
So she could only watch the real-time footage and read the motion of Grey’s mouth in order to know what they’re talking about.
Jenica was munching chips while watching the footage, when the servants of the mansion suddenly erked up.
A man sitting on a wheelchair entered the grand door with a woman by his side. Jenica saw how Bryce shot up in an instant. His fists were clenched and his whole body trembled for a second. If she’s not a doctor, she might misunderstood Bryce’s behavior as surprise and anger. But she knew that Bryce was nervous.
Jenica could also see the shock on the faces of the Desmana except for Lynet who knows Joseph and Irene’s visit beforehand.
