Chapter 95
- Getting Close
“What are you doing here?” Frank asked softly.
Kara’s lips pursed. After returning her gaze towards the garden, she asked back, “Are the twins asleep?”
“Yes.” Silently, Frank took the seat next to her. “Emily didn’t want to
come out of her brother’s room earlier. She wanted to hear me read a
book to Louis too even though I had finished a book of fairy tales in
her room.”
Kara glanced thinly. “Now they sleep together?”
“No. I moved Emily after she fell asleep.”
Kara jerked an eyebrow. Hugging herself, she grumbled, “You must be happy. You’ve succeeded in snatching my children’s attention.”
The curve of Frank’s lips widened. It was the first time he saw Kara’s childish side like that. “You think I manage to grab their attention?”
Kara took a deep breath. “Isn’t it clear? They’re not even looking for
me anymore.”
While Frank smiled, Kara continued to express her worries. “And I think you must be proud too. You’ve proven that money is powerful. You can give them nice clothes, expensive toys, everything they want, things I can’t afford. You must be very satisfied.”
In the silence, Frank watched Kara’s face. There was no envy behind the frown, only sadness and disappointment.
“You know what? I learned a lot today. Turns out, being a parent is really hard.”
Kara spontaneously rolled her eyes. She felt that the CEO was making
“Because of that, I admire you. You are able to raise your children very well just by yourself.”
Kara glanced suspiciously. However, finding sincerity on Frank’s face, her eyes began to fill with tears. “I’m not alone. I’m with my mother,” she said softly.
“But you’re still great. Supporting two children isn’t easy. You have to give them food, clothes, entertainment, education… and you do all that while working.”
A bland laugh escaped Kara’s mouth. She tried to look away, but failed. Those gray eyes had hypnotized her.
“I know what you mean. You want to compare what I’ve given them over the years with what you’ve just given them in one day, right?”
“No, Kara.” Frank shook his head faintly. “There is nothing in the world that can match a mother’s love. You have given everything to your children, even though you said… they are not your biological children.
Silence hung for a moment. Kara understood the meaning of the emphasis at the end of that statement. Frank wanted her to believe
that he believed.
“Thanks to you,” Frank continued, “I realized that price isn’t only about numbers. Children never worry about their clothes or toys. That’s because they are comfortable. You are the one who makes them. comfortable.”
Kara’s tears thickened. The pressure in her chest became even more intense. Not wanting to get carried away, she snorted quickly. “You praise me as high as you can to drop me at the end, hmm?”
“Absolutely not.” Frank patted the hand in his grasp.
“I’m just telling the truth. Yes, the things I gave were more expensive,

Kara laughed sarcastically. While looking away, she swallowed hard. They’re not your children. You don’t need to be there for them.”
“You’re right. They have a great mother, so they should be fine. They’re smart and so mature for their age. You did a great job educating them, Kara.”
Kara finally looked down and bit her lip. Her heart felt light at the confession, but she didn’t want to fly. She was afraid of pain when she fell.
“So, what is the secret that you can be that great, Kara? I need to learn from you. I also want to be a good parent to my children.”
Kara suddenly burst out laughing. Glancing over, she whispered,” That’s a serious question?”
“Yes.” Frank nodded deeply. “So, what are your tricks for raising your children?” NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.
Kara’s smile returned. Her gaze was now much shadier. “There are no tricks. I just want them to live well. Don’t all parents think so?”
Suddenly, Frank let go of Kara’s hand and glanced towards the garden. “Not all parents. Some people want their children to be the best version of their own standard. Instead of thinking about their children’s happiness, they instead prioritize ego and prestige.”
Kara could see the hurt in that look. Feeling guilty, she pursed her lips. “By the way, I haven’t had time to thank you yet.”
Frank’s eyebrows suddenly furrowed. “What for?”
Kara blushed. “You saved me and the twins from Rolland. You took
care of my mother’s health. You also offered us your house for shelter.”
After one breath, she looked at her boss seriously. “Thank you for your kindness, Young Master Harper.”
Frank was stunned for a moment. His eyebrows rose, just as the corners of his lips. After one sigh, his laughter broke the silence.
“I never thought that one thank you could mean so much.” He took the secretary’s hand and gave it a sweet kiss. “Thank you, Kara. I would never have felt this simple happiness if it weren’t for you.”
Kara was secretly flattered, but she covered it up with a snort. “Stop it, Frank. Your teasing doesn’t work on me.”
“At least I tried. I would do anything for my future wife.”
Kara suddenly pulled her hand from his grasp. “Your joke isn’t funny.”
“I’m not joking. I’m serious about wanting to marry you.”
“In one week? Even a crazy person wouldn’t believe it.” Kara shook her head with a chuckle of pity.
“Okay, just wait. I will immediately provide evidence.”
Kara spontaneously leaned her head backward. “Don’t mess around, Frank. I’m against polygamy.”
The man gave her a long grin. “But you’ve already been involved. You’ve snatched my heart since our first met.”
Kara chuckled. “Enough, Frank. I’m too lazy to hear your bullshit.”
Kara was about to leave. However, just as she stood up, Frank grabbed her waist.
“That’s not bullshit. I really don’t know how to get rid of you from my heart and mind. Your gaze, your scent, your breath… everything about you has stuck in my memory.”
Kara pushed his chest, putting a little distance between them. “Now,
you mar the soumu nie a oncup yo
“Okay, let me put it straight. In my life, I’ve only done it twice. I did it both times with you. You didn’t take me away from anyone, Kara. From the start I made up my mind, it was you.”
Kara couldn’t look away anymore. The rest she could do was to raise her eyebrows in disdain. “You said that I had snatched your heart.”
“Yes, not from another woman, but from myself. I have lost control of my heart and you must be responsible for that.”
Kara tried to laugh, but the sound was inaudible. “I never thought my boss is the king of crap.” She shook her head slightly.
“You just appreciated my kindness, Kara, but why are you rejecting my sincerity now? Your thanks are false, huh?”
Kara knitted her eyebrows. “No.”
“Dare to prove it? The kids and I were talking about having a picnic on the beach. How about we make it happen tomorrow?”
Kara widened her eyes at that challenge. “Aren’t you afraid of the media covering it? The world’s best CEO could be hit by a scandal.”
