Chapter 82 (Clare)

Chapter 82 (Clare)

A glass chandelier hanging directly above her was the first thing she saw when she opened her sleep- filled eyes. And a hand holding her was the first feeling she felt. Foreign spaces, keeping calm, she searched the room. Her gaze searching for a clue to tell her where she was. From the white cotton bedding, feeling thick and warm, to the vanilla scent of the room, she closed her eyes and opened them again. This time wide-eyed, the hand on her made her nervous, she started turning slowly, trying to get the persons hand off her chest.

Eventually managing to get free, slowly she put her feet on the white and green Egyptian carpet.

She stood up, feeling a sudden wave of dizziness, taking some time to get her balance. She started to think, recalling- what was the last thing she remembered.

“Nathan,” she said aloud, waking the person who was laying next,

“Clare.” Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.

The voice sent a shock wave through her veins, her eyes opened with radiance, she turned to the person, almost lost in tune. There stood a thin, tall fair guy, with perfectly styled blonde hair that was not too short or too long and light powdery blue eyes, with thin lips that pouted when he spoke as if he flirted with you, every time.

“PHILLIP?”

There he was, her best friend, her first crush, standing opposite her, but all she could do was stand there in horror. “Clare relax it’s me, Phillip, well aren’t you going to say something, anything.”

“What are you doing here Phillip, what am I doing here?”

“Clare you’ve been sleeping for three days, you were drugged.”

“What, why didn’t you wake me, I…” she looked around the room, and back to him,

“I have to go,” she went for the door and opened it.

Phillip shut it closed instantly after, he turned her around to face him, “You aren't going anywhere especially not like that.” She glared at him, but his eyes pointed to her chest, she looked down.

“Oh shit,” She squealed when she saw what she was wearing, hot shorts and a white vest, with no bra.

Her hands in front of her breast, she counted down from ten. “I have seen it all you know.”

In normal circumstances, she would have laughed by his remark, but now all she did was stand there. Contemplating whether he was good, or bad. Should she trust him, could she. Chastising herself for thinking so low of him, she dropped her hands. Of course, she should, he is practically family she convinced herself.

“You are absolutely correct, I should change, is Nathan here by any chance.”

“He’s downstairs, I’ll call him.” He opened the door, “and please, don’t get any smart ideas, we both know how that turns out,” he said pointing to the window and shaking his head.

She rolled her eyes, “I won’t, I promise, you should go call Nathan, I’ll wait.”

He paused for a second, his head shaking before he left.

The door closed and Clare skidded to the windows, opening the black cotton curtains and the window, she checked the drop, too high to jump.

She went to the cupboard, eyeing the clothes hanging in it, grabbing black pants and a t-shirt she quickly changed into her bra, which hanged over the dresser, and the clothes.

Locking the room door, she grabbed the sheets off the bed and tied them together. She pulled the curtain off the railing and joined it to the bed sheet making a rope, which she'd learnt watching years of action movies.

Searching the room for something to tie the sheet onto, so she could escape through the window, she knotted it around the leg of a wooden dresser. Keeping calm she slowly put her first foot down and then the other, dropping her body weight onto the sheet. It was scary, but she reminded herself she was a Lightwatcher. She braved up and lowered herself closer to the ground,

“So much easier on TV.”

Clare looked down, and wrapped her legs around the sheet, bumping into the wall. She wanted to scream but managed to hold it, the pain was bearable she told herself. Her hair opened now blocking her view. She shook the mass out to get it away from her face. When she finally managed, she felt the sheet slip and looked up, the knot was opening.

She checked how far she was from the ground, still too far to jump and land with all her bones intact. “How big is this damn house.” Aggravation setting in at her dilemma.

The knots started separating further, she lowered herself just below the first knot trying to hurry down before it opened. She carried herself down faster but the knot opened.

Clare fell with the white sheets, she didn’t scream but tried to grab onto the sheets which followed her. She braced herself for the fall and closed her eyes. She landed, but not as she thought, she was caught midair,

“Hello, Love.”

Out of breath from the fall, she huffed, “Nikolai.”

He tilted his head eyes focused on hers, she could smell his scent, alcohol and perfume riddled behind the blazing fire, sending unwanted tingles through her body.

“That was quite a show.”
