Chapter 0098

“A masquerade ball?

“Yeah. It’s the hotel’s tradition to hold a ball once every six months. The theme is different every time. It was a costume party the last time, and the one before was a Halloween–themed party.

“This time, its theme is relatively more common. Everyone is more accepting of the idea, so there may be a large crowd tonight.”

As Christmas neared, Christmas trees were set up in many corners of the hotel. They even set up the festive lights, giving the place a merry vibe.

Winter continued, “When I came in, the waiters were all wearing their masks already. It will be fun!”

She chose a fox mask for Miranda, while hers was shaped like a lion, the king of all beasts. How cool!

Miranda asked, “Why didn’t you choose a cougar mask for yourself?”

“Why a cougar?”

“A cougar is way cooler, no?” Property belongs to Nôvel(D)r/ama.Org.

Winter paused before hissing at her. “Are you looking for a fight?

Picking up her mask, Miranda fled. As she ran, she put it on. “Come on, we’re going to be late!”

“Stand there! How dare you say I’m fierce! You’re the cougar!”

The banquet hall was on the 23rd floor. As she exited the elevator, Miranda could sense gazes falling on her.

She didn’t like occasions where there were many people, but she felt at ease the moment she remembered she was wearing a mask.

O

Winter pulled her through the crowd to the bar. “One martini, please. Mimi, what drink would you like?”

Miranda replied, “A lemonade.”

Winter couldn’t believe her ears. “Say that again?”

“…I want a lemo-

Winter cut her off and told the bartender, “She’ll have a Bloody Mary!”

The bartender smiled. “Sure.”

Miranda couldn’t bring herself to smile. Unbeknownst to her, someone was gazing at her from behind, reluctant to take his eyes off her.

Hansel stood at the banquet hall entrance, leaning against the wall. He checked his watch from time to

time.

He wore an ornate mask with a black and gold crackle design. It also had musical notes scattered all over. He looked cold and elegant in it, even more so in his white shirt, with his collar slightly open.

In his attire, he gave off an unapproachable feeling while being attractive at the same time, so much so that it turned heads.

After five minutes of waiting, Hansel was losing his patience. He was about to leave when Ingrid suddenly patted his shoulder from behind. “Dear, I’m here!”

Hansel turned toward her. Ingrid chose a rabbit mask with furry tips on its ears. She also put on eye makeup that resembled a rabbit’s eyes. It suited her air of innocence.

“I went to the wrong place, that’s why I’m a bit late. I’m sorry,” she explained as she grabbed his hand and swayed it. “I heard a lucky winner will get a mysterious grand prize tonight. I’ve been pretty lucky; I’m sure I’ll win it.”

Hansel’s annoyance dissipated at her cute demeanor. “Let’s go, then. You have a lucky draw to join.”

Winter had just put down her glass when a handsome guy with looks and build that suit her liking passed her by.

Before she could say anything, Miranda spoke up first. Go on. Take it easy and don’t get yourself into trouble.”

Winter gave her a flying kiss. “I’ll go ahead then.”

Feeling resigned, Miranda withdrew her gaze. Looking around, she realized there were many guests. Most of them dressed up for the ball. It felt really ceremonious.

With the romantic atmosphere and exotic music, the crowd warmed up to the occasion. Following the beat of the music, they started to dance.

Miranda went to the dessert table to get some cakes. Then, she found a quiet spot and sat to enjoy the desserts. As she did so, she pulled out her iPad, which she brought with her wherever she went, and went through some theses.

Suddenly, a slender hand appeared before her. A man’s voice followed, his tone deep and graceful. “Care to join me for a dance, lovely lady?”
