Chapter 99
Chapter 99
It Comes In Three’s
Lottie’s POV
As Alex gathers his composure, his expression softening, he lifts me up from the chair, pulling me into a comforting hug.
“I understand why you did it, Lottie, but I need you to promise me that you won’t do something like that again,” he says gently, his voice tinged with concern. “I hide you from the meetings for this reason, I don’t want you to get upset or scared more than you need to be. I would have told you anyway when the time was right.” He softly scolds.
I nod, feeling guilty for going against his wishes, but also grateful for his understanding. “I promise, Alex. I won’t do it again. I just… I was bored… I didn’t think it would be anything that my voice barely audible as I sniffle.
Dad. I admit,
He strokes my hair gently, soothing me. “I know it’s difficult, but you just have to trust me and my men
mother to handle this. They’re working hard to keep you safe, and we’ll find a way to deal with your without putting you in any danger.” He states confidently, always holding me together.
As I pull back from the hug, I wipe away my tears, trying to regain some composure. “Why would she do something like this Alex? She can’t just leave me alone! She’s miserable in her own life and has to try make mines bad too!” I sigh heavily, as his eyes hold a deep sorrow for my situation.
“That’s exactly what it is doll! I wish I had all of the answers, Lottie,” Alex says, his voice filled with empathy. “But sometimes, people do terrible things out of jealousy, resentment, or just plain cruelty. Your mother’s actions are not a reflection of you; they’re a reflection of her own insecurities and issues. She won’t get away with this.”
I nod, taking a deep breath to steady myself. “I know, it’s just hard to believe that someone I should be able to trust could be capable of such cruelty. Ever since my father left us, she’s hated everything about me. Clearly me leaving town wasn’t even enough for her!” I say, my voice trembling with frustration
next.
“Remember, you have a support system here now doll. We’ll protect you, no matter what. Your mother doesn’t know what she’s dealing with!” Alex grits out, before moving around to his desk phone smashing a few numbers before holding it to his ear.
As the line rings, I watch Alex’s expression, which shifts from concern to determination. “Freddie,” he says when the call connects, informing me now of who it was…
“I need a favor from you. Has anyone suspicious been in the pub lately? Or has anyone been asking about Lottie around town since what happened the other day?” Alex speaks instantly, his brows pulling together as he listens next.
I strain to hear Freddie’s response, my heart pounding with anxiety. The silence seems to stretch for an eternity before Alex’s face tightens, and he nods.
–
“Got it. Thanks for letting me know. I need you and your friends to keep tabs for me call me if you see anyone weird hanging around or asking shit again.” Alex says, before listening to Freddie’s response – offering him a quick ‘thank you‘ before ending the call.
He turns to face me, a serious look in his eyes now. “Freddie says there have been a couple of people asking about you in town. They seem like cops he said. Nothing overly threatening yet though doll, but it still concerns me. I’ll have some of my guys head down there to keep an eye on things.” Alex informs
me, as I squint.
Cops? Why would the cops be asking around for me? I don’t understand…
“Cops?” I speak my concern, as Alex waves his hand as though it were nothing.
“Might not be… or it might be cops looking to keep tabs on me through you… don’t think into it. They questioned me the other night at the hospital so they could be looking for you to do a follow up – we don’t know anything yet.” Alex explains, as my shoulders slump in defeat.
Fear gnaws at my insides, but I know I have to remain strong through this and hope for the best. “What if Tommy’s accomplices are trying to track me down? Pretending to be cops to lure me in?” I ask, my voice shaking at one of the endless possibilities being created in my head.
Alex’s jaw tenses, and his eyes darken with anger. “We won’t let them get near you,” he vows. “We’ll
increase security measures, and I’ll make sure my men are constantly vigilant. We’ll find them before they can find you and if they want to play with fire, then they’ll get fucking cremated – mark my words!” Alex holds no lie as he speaks.
I hang my head low, feeling crushed by the nightmares of my past resurfacing despite Tommy, Jason and Holden being locked up…
They still manage to torment me like this!
“Let’s get you something to eat, Anna is on her way. I have another meeting after lunch so you two can chill in here… and I mean it Lottie, no more snooping!” Alex glares at me ever so slightly before moving
to the iPad.
He orders what he wants for lunch before he hands the device to me as I pick out something that myself
and Anna would like.
Simple as that, we place the order, before Alex moves around and collects what he needs for his next meeting – I’m guessing by the looks of his paperwork, this meeting is actually about his properties with
real staff.
I hear the elevator ding open, before Anna reveals herself, wearing a pink tracksuit as she smiles and
waves at me.
I wave back, forcing myself to attempt a smile as she approaches her features changing when she fully notices my demeanour.
“Lottie, what’s
wrong? Are you okay? You don’t look yourself today.” Anna rushes out, the concern. evident in her eyes now before she eyes Alex too.
I take a deep breath and try to compose myself.
“Well, you won’t believe what we learned today… It’s my mother, Anna. She’s behind those terrifying letters, and there is also some people asking around for me In town now too… Freddie says they seem like cops but it could be anyone!” I open up, as Anna’s eyes widen at my words.
Anna’s face contorts with both shock and anger as she seems to think on what I had just said. “What?! Your own bitch mother? She can’t be! That’s so sick! This can’t be serious?!” Anna rages, placing her handbag on the desk before plopping down in the seat opposite me.
Alex continues to sift through his filing cabinets, his eyes scanning over different papers as he fully enters his work mode…
“I know, it’s hard to believe, but it’s true! I’m struggling to wrap my head around it all.” I say, my voice catching. “I don’t understand why she’s doing this… she couldn’t just let me move on with my life.”
Anna reaches across the desk before squeezing my hand reassuringly. “We’ll figure it out, Lottie, we always do. Alex and his men won’t let anything happen to you either, we’ll support you through this. She doesn’t know who she’s messing with seriously!” Anna threatens, as I gulp back the lump that was forming in my throat.
“I just can’t believe I have to deal with this on top of everything else. Could it have even been her that chased me the other day? Who knows at this point! It could be anybody! I don’t feel safe anymore – at all!” I whisper, feeling overwhelmed by the whole situation now.
“We’ve got your back, Lottie. You’re not alone in this,” Anna says firmly, her determination mirroring
Alex’s earlier words.
“She’s right, over my dead body will any of them get to you Lottie! I know it’s hard, but try to remain calm until we figure shit out.” Alex turns to us and states, having still been listening in.
I manage a weak smile, always grateful for their unwavering support. “Thank you, Anna. I don’t know what I’d do without you and Alex.”
Before we can delve further into the conversation, Anna’s phone buzzes, and she quickly glances at the screen. “Oh, excuse me for a moment,” she says, answering the call. Content rights belong to NôvelDrama.Org.
I try to focus on calming my nerves while she talks on the phone, but my mind keeps drifting back to
the fear of being chased and the shock of my mother’s involvement.
It’s all so overwhelming…
–
The food delivery soon arrives to our floor next, as Alex goes to greet the lady taking the stacked cart from her with a ‘thank you“.
Anna finishes her call and returns her attention to me, a mix of concern and curiosity in her eyes. “Well, wait until you hear the latest with Clara and Del…” she trails off, clearly agitated now, as I help Alex unpack the different lunches.
I take a deep breath, trying
