Chapter 1024: You’re Blocking Tina From Breathing Fresh Air
Master Tam's face darkened as he saw his disciples recklessly jumping into action without assessing the situation. His voice rang out sharply, "Stop!"
"Master, Serena, she..."
"I said stop!"
Tina glanced around the room, her temples throbbing as even Hayden, the star of the engagement banquet, got involved. She fixed her gaze on Jimmy and said in a calm but irrefutable tone, "Jimmy, this is Hayden's engagement banquet."
Jimmy froze for a moment before loosening his grip on Jared. The others standing nearby exchanged uneasy looks, their expressions shifting.
Master Tam turned to his disciples, who had gone from aggressive to meek in an instant, and scolded, "Is this the etiquette I've taught you? Serena has her reasons for what she does. This isn't your place to interfere."
The disciples remained silent, not daring to argue. It wasn't just Master Tam's wrath that silenced them-it was Serena's anger.
To outsiders, Serena's mood might have been imperceptible, but to them, her emotional shifts were etched into their instincts.
Just as Master Tam was about to continue, Tina suddenly gagged and bent over, vomiting.
"Tina!"
Jared's expression changed as he quickly stepped forward to support her, one hand holding hers and the other gently patting her back.
The unexpected turn of events left everyone else frozen in shock. One by one, they gathered around her in a panic.
"Serena, are you okay?"
Damian barked, "Philip, Gavin, get some water!"
Tristan countered, "What water? Get a wet towel and some medicine for her stomach!"
Gavin paused in confusion, muttering as he turned to leave, "Wait, no, Serena's pregnant. We need a doctor!"
Hayden nodded in agreement, "Yes, yes, exactly. We need to get a doctor!"
Master Tam couldn't bear to watch. How had he managed to gather such a clueless group over the years?
Hayden, flustered, nearly bumped into his master as he turned. "Master, move! I need to get a doctor!"
Master Tam shot him a glare. "I'm a doctor. Who are you planning to call?"
Hayden froze for a moment and then exclaimed, "Right! I forgot about that! Master, quickly check on Serena!"
Instead of complying, Master Tam flicked him on the forehead. "If anyone needs checking, it's you. Let's see if your brain is still functioning."
The commotion left Tina with a splitting headache. She leaned weakly into Jared's arms and said softly, "Tell them to leave."
Although her voice was faint, it was clear enough for everyone to hear. Serena wanted them to leave.
Their faces fell instantly, and they began pleading, "Serena, we were wrong. Punish us however you like, but please don't make us leave."
Jared, finding the noise unbearable, said bluntly, "You're blocking Tina from breathing fresh air."
The group fell silent.
Pregnancy was... this strange? Even air couldn't be shared?
But they didn't dare disobey. Tina's earlier reaction made it clear that even if she asked them to hold their breath, they'd comply without hesitation.
By now, Tina had recovered a bit and sat up straighter. The group immediately backed off, standing a full meter away, too afraid to move.
Jimmy glanced up and accidentally locked eyes with Tina's cold gaze. His courage crumbled instantly. "Serena, I didn't mean to. It's just... the news was too shocking, and we didn't know how to react."
The others nodded vehemently, chiming in, "Yes, yes, exactly!"
They were relieved they hadn't acted rashly earlier. Otherwise, they'd probably be the ones getting reprimanded now.
Tina hadn't intended to publicize the matter, but since they already knew, there was no point in hiding it. "This isn't about who's at fault. I kept it quiet because I didn't want Claudia to use it against me. But more importantly, it's for my own protection."
"Now that you know, just don't spread the word."
They nodded furiously.
Jimmy also promised, "Serena, I won't do it again."
Tina's gaze sharpened. "Jimmy, I'm not the one you should apologize to!"
Most things she could let slide, but she wouldn't allow Jared to be treated unfairly.
Jimmy froze, understanding her meaning. He looked at Jared, his lips moving hesitantly. "Earlier, I... I shouldn't have acted against you. I'm sorry."
Jared, ever composed, waved it off. "It's fine. You're not a kid anymore. Be more mature
in your actions and words, so you don't embarrass yourself in front of others."
Jimmy gritted his teeth, swallowing his frustration. For Serena's sake, he endured it.
Just then, a figure in a deep red gown approached gracefully. Paula greeted Master Tam first before turning to Hayden. She was about to call out to him when she noticed Tina surrounded by the group.
She took a closer look. "Serena, you're here too... You don't look well. Are you feeling unwell?"
Before anyone could respond, Hayden blurted out, "Paula, Serena isn't preg-" "Mmmpf!"
Tristan, quick on his feet, clamped a hand over Hayden's mouth in a chokehold.
The others quickly stepped in front of Tina, smiling as they intercepted Paula. "Miss Paula, Hayden meant that Serena isn't feeling well and just needs some rest. It's nothing serious."
Liam added, "Serena's perfectly fine. I think Hayden's the one with a 'problem' today." Gavin chimed in, "It's probably all the excitement from your engagement. You should take him home and, you know, calm him down."
Hayden, struggling, managed to gasp, "I'm... suffocating..."
The group: "Then hold it in."
Paula nodded politely at each of them before turning to Tristan, who still had Hayden
in a headlock. With a composed smile, she said, "My father and grandfather need to
speak with Hayden about some matters. May I take him for a moment?"
"Of course, take him. No need to bring him back," they replied eagerly.
"Yes, yes, the farther, the better," someone added.
They couldn't wait to send Hayden off.
After Paula led Hayden away, the remaining group glanced at Tina, then at their still- irritated master. Knowing they were in the wrong, they kept their heads down, avoiding eye contact.
It wasn't until Hayden and Paula were on stage, exchanging heartfelt vows, that the group finally relaxed enough to snap a few pictures of the "historic moment" on their phones.
"Tsk tsk, classic Hayden," one of them muttered. "Anytime, anywhere, the tears just flow."
"This is just the engagement. At the wedding, he'll probably cry himself unconscious," someone whispered.noveldrama
Of course, they only dared to think these things. With so many people around, they wouldn't risk saying them out loud. Hayden's pride had to be preserved.
Still, the "precious footage" was safely stored on their phones-Hayden's embarrassing moments, firmly in their grasp.
As Hayden and Paula exchanged a few more words on stage, their grandfathers took over, announcing the wedding date and showcasing elaborate gift lists to flaunt their respective family statuses.
The two old men, equally stubborn, began bickering right on stage. Hayden, never fond of large family gatherings, had distanced himself from the Cohen family for years. After stepping down from the stage, he dragged Paula to sit at Tina's table.
Before eating, he even rounded up everyone at the table to take a "family photo," roping in the two bickering grandfathers as background props. The resulting picture was... colorful, to say the least.
