Chapter 142
Chapter 142
Lola still found it hard to accept. She had always imagined her grandparents to be as kind and loving av her mom, not like this.
“Hey, don’t let it get to you too much. It’s not like you ever even met them. You only knew them through your dad’s stories when you were little, so there’s no reason to feel too bad
“But… Forget it, let’s not talk about that. How is your body?” Lola didn’t want to discuss the Richardson family any further. The brutal infighting among her relatives was too cruel for her, but there was nothing she could do about it Dominick glanced at the wound on his shoulder, narrowing his eyes. “You’re not mad at me anymore.”
Lola’s face darkened. Just answer the question. Don’t push it.”
Given the situation, Dominick decided not to tease Lola anymore. “How did you treat the wound?”
Lola glanced at the table. T… I cleaned it for you. I didn’t do a great job, but I had no choice. They didn’t give you proper treatment, but just give you a basic first aid kit.”
Dominick’s shoulder hurt badly, so he could only lie back down on the bed.
“Dominick, what should we do now? I checked around earlier, and this place is locked down tight. They only show food a few times a day, always five or six of them. With your injury, we can’t fight them.”

Lola’s face was solemn. This whole thing happened so fast and left her family clueless about their whereabouts. Even if they searched, they wouldn’t know where to look. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
“When they brought us here, I was blindfolded, and you were unconscious. We have no idea how we got here. Getting out of this is going to be extremely difficult.”
Dominick looked at Lola and nodded with some relief. “You’ve grown a lot since before. That’s good.”
Lola was slightly taken aback. “Dominick, seriously? How can you even think about that right now?
“Why do you seem so calm? Are you sure you can get out of this?”
She was extremely anxious. Dominick, however, still had the mood to praise her.
“Since we’re stuck here anyway, what’s the point of worrying?”
Seeing how distressed she was, Dominick finally explained, “The Richardson family hasn’t made a move against us, probably because they haven’t confirmed certain information yet.
“He wants to take over the Leroy Group, but even if I die now, he doesn’t have the means or resources to acquire it. He needs me to transfer the shares to him personally.
“So, until I wake up, we’re safe.
“And you, you are a Lewis. He needs to figure out how to deal with you. Pissing off the Lewis family isn’t exactly a smart move
for him either.”
Dominick’s analysis made sense to Lola, and she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
“So that’s how it is. We’re safe now and don’t need to be overly cautious. When Ethan realizes what’s going on, he’ll definitely come to rescue us, right?”
Dominick shot her a sidelong glance. “That’s foolish.”
She paused, a bit stunned. “Why do you say that?”
“If they find out I’m awake, they’ll force me to sign over all my shares. Without any leverage, we’re both in danger”
Lola snorted, “Someone like you? There’s no way you’d let anyone threaten you like that. Who do you think you are? You wouldn’t give in
Domimick’s p gaze turned serious. “But if they use you to threaten me, I would.”

Lola’s heart tightened, a strange feeling flickering inside her. It was as if a long–dormant seed within her had suddenly begun to sprout.
“You… Stop saying things like that. Just focus on getting better. We’ll figure things out when you’re better.”
“Mr. Lewis, we still haven’t been able to reach her. We’ve contacted Mr. Sinclair, but he’s got no leads either.
“Ms. Lewis has been missing for two days now. We should call the police and get them help us search!” Eric was frantic. He couldn’t understand how Lola had vanished after just a week away.
Brian burst into the room, panting. “Mr. Lewis, we lost her trail by the gardenias! We’ve searched the entire garden and the mountain behind it. There’s no sign of her or anyone else!”
Ethan hadn’t rested in two days, and his usually sharp face was now shadowed with a scruffy beard.
“How could she just disappear like that? Keep searching!” he demanded.
“And don’t call the cops!”
Eric was puzzled. “Why not? We need as many people as possible looking for her! Ms. Lewis has been missing for two days already. The longer we wait, the more dangerous it gets!”
Ethan’s expression darkened. “Layla’s identity is sensitive. If word gets out and falls into the wrong hands, even if she’s safe now, she’ll be in serious danger once they make their move.”
Eric nodded. “You’re right, I wasn’t thinking straight. But there’s something else…
He said hesitantly, “Dominick and Ms. Lewis disappeared together, and I’ve been watching the surveillance. They were together the whole time. Maybe Dominick has…”
Ethan understood what Eric was implying and immediately shook his head. “No way. There must be someone set them up.” Layla was his sister, and Dominick was his best friend. To Ethan, both of them were incredibly important.
Thus, he had to find them.
“Eihan.”
Jenna walked into the office at that moment, her eyes scanning the room thoughtfully.
“Ethan, Layla hasn’t come to the office for two days. Did something happen?”
Jenna’s gaze swept over Eric and Brian. These two rarely showed up, so something must have happened to Lola.
Ethan was already in a foul mood and could easily see through Jenna’s probing.
“Did she take a leave of absence because she wasn’t feeling well?” Jenna looked at Ethan.
“What do you need from me?”
Ethan’s tone was unfriendly, and Jenna decided not to w
press
“Nothing, really. I was just wondering why Layla hasn’t been around. You look terrible, by the way, Ethan. Take care of yourself.”
Ethan suddenly thought of something and smiled, “Thanks… Actually, never mind. I’ll be honest with you. I don’t care if you laugh at me. Layla hasn’t been home because she ran off with Dominick.”
“Han off? No way! They… Jenna suddenly realized something and fell silent.
“They what?” Ethan’s eyes narrowed, seizing the opportunity to pry.
