Lola paused momentarily, then, with a calm demeanor, shut the car door and walked away Belund her, the car’s engine didn’t start. She harbored no illusions of Dominick accompanying her back to Serenity Haven. The summ breeze was refreshingly cool, yet an inexplicable chill made her shiver.

The divorce papers still lay on the bed. Lola cast a fleeting glance at them, then strode over to the closet. She grabbed her suitcase and walked down the stairs.

As she left the mansion, the servants were cleaning the yard. They seemed to ignore her presence, but Lola diciét care. She just dragged her luggage step by step and left Sinclair Manor….

Lola had been an academic prodigy, completing her university courses two years early and securing dual PhDs at just twenty. Considering her young age, the professors kept her at the school as an assistant, occasionally having her stand in for their lectures. Her unplanned pregnancy, however, forced her resignation from this role.

She had intended to look for a job after giving birth…..

The midday sun was merciless, Lola’s vision blurred in waves. She knew she was running a fever, not from heatstroke, but from an infected wound. Previously, while being abducted in the factory and in such conditions, she could treat the wound simply and take anti–inflammatory medication.

Lola settled into a modest three–star hotel, and upon entering her room, she immediately collapsed on the bed, slipping into unconsciousness.

The next morning, harsh sunlight poured through the window, rudely waking Lola. She blinked open her eyes, confusion clouding her mind, almost unsure of what year it was. She lay in bed for a long time, slowly coming to her senses, realizing she had moved out of Sinclair Manor.

Though she knew no one would call her, seeing her empty phone screen still brought a sharp, indescribable pain to her heart. In this world, there were many people with parents, siblings, friends, spouses…..

But she was always alone, from the beginning to the end,

She had no parents, no siblings, no husband or children, no childhood memories, and didn’t even know who she wast This material belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

A day had passed since she checked into the hotel.

Over the next two days, Lola split her time between searching for a house and looking for a job. Fresh out of college with no real–world work experience, she faced one rejection after another. The

savings she’d managed to accumulate during her two–year stint as a teaching assistant were modest enough to get by, but not much more. Eventually, she settled for a small attic apartment.

After paying a deposit of four hundred dollars and arranging a date to sign the lease with the landlord, Lola returned to her hotel.

“The lady of the Moore family, Jessica, has been discharged from the hospital and returned to Moore Villa. Dominick Sinclair, the younger scion of the Sinclair family, was by her side the whole time. Reliable sources reveal that Ms. Moore is set to marry Dominick, with both families already preparing for the wedding”

The sound of the gossip news drifted from a car.

Lola, looking at her resume, paused slightly, her lips attempting a smile but only managing a rigid twitch.

The media mentioned Jessica’s discharge from the hospital, and they talked about Dominick being by her side the whole time, Jessica’s remarriage, and both families preparing for the wedding. But they didn’t mention the fact that Dominick was already married, as if everyone had forgotten this detail.

“The world we live in, huh? The husband’s barely cold in his grave, and the wife is rushing to marry his brother, the taxi driver chuckled, turning down the radio.

“Tell me about it, Lola responded casually.

The driver seemed to have found a kindred spirit and glanced at Lola through the rearview mirror. Suddenly, he remembered something and spoke up. “I remember that this younger Sinclair sir, has already got a wife. Now he’s going to marry his brother’s widow. Surprisingly, the media hasn’t mentioned a word about it.”

Lola pondered over this for a moment before responding. “Maybe his first wife was too plain, the kind who could disappear into a crowd without anyone noticing. So insignificant that she’s easily forgotten”

The driver nodded, agreeing with her theory.

“Nowadays, it’s all about marrying within your own social class, right? For a wealthy family like his, it’s expected to find a bride of similar status. Nobody really got why he, the heir, went for someone so…ordinary”

‘Because marrying this ordinary woman was just a trick to put his big brother at ease!

‘Because only in this way could he hide his love for Jessica!”

That was what Lola mulled over silently.

The hotel was somewhat secluded. By the time Lola got out of the taxi, night had fallen. She noticed a sleek black sedan parked at the curb. Lola glanced at it but didn’t give it much thought. But as she passed by, the car’s doors burst

open.

A surge of alarm shot through her. She picked up her pace towards the hotel entrance. But before she made much headway, a piercing pain struck her neck. Her vision blurred, her world spun, and she crumpled to the ground…

Ice–cold water splashed onto her, sending shivers down her spine. As the chill seeped into her bones, Lola gained her

consciousness.

She found herself in a dank, musty room, the air heavy with a pungent mix of earthiness and a fishy smell. A dim, yellow lightbulb dangled from the ceiling, casting eerie shadows. Lola looked up, only then noticing the seven or eight men standing around her, one of whom was holding a camera, recording a video.

“Who are you guys?”

Just as Lola struggled to push herself up, a stick brutally struck her on her shin. A piercing pain shot through her leg, causing her to collapse heavily back to the ground.

“Heh!”

The man who struck her chuckles, a cold, taunting sound.

“I have a message for you,” he said, his voice laced with menace. “You don’t belong to our world.”

Our world

Images of many people thickered in her mind, but only three stayed – Landon, Dominick, and Jessica. She endured the pain in her calf, raised her head, and looked at the people before her.

“Did Jessica send you?”

The man chuckled, then stepped back with his camera, his gaze sweeping over the crow

“Don’t you want to find out what Dominick’s woman tastes like?”

The crowd burst into lewd laughter and slowly started moving toward Lola.

“Don’t come any closer!”

In a panic, Lola shook her head while crawling backward. But before she could get far, two men grabbed her ankles, and two others firmly held her wrists at her sides. She lay on the ground, immobilized like a starfish.

“Dominick’s woman is indeed something” A man caressed Lola’s face roughly.

The other three, their tongues flicking eagerly, swiftly shed their clothes and lunged at Lola.

She shook her head, and tears welled up in her eyes. Lola realized that not all bad guys were kind– hearted like Eric

and Brian.

Who would come to save me?

As her clothes were ripped away, a surge of humiliation overwhelmed her. Clawing at the ground in despair, Lola closed her eyes….
