Chapter 513
She had let her guard down. In her mind, she and Everett weren't a couple anymore, so Moon Bay didn't feel like home to her. With little Mateo being there, she knew he was safe, but she couldn't shake the nagging thought-had he run into Everett?
On one hand, she was relieved that Mateo was okay, but on the other, her mind was in a whirlwind. She reassured herself, remembering that Everett had supposedly moved into a new home with someone else over the past three years and rarely came back to Moon Bay.
So, even if Mateo had gone there, chances were slim they'd meet.
Yeah, that had to be it!
The real task at hand was to get her boy back. Selena took a few deep breaths to steady herself, started up the car, and headed back to Moon Bay.
She was so focused on Mateo that she didn't notice a new message arriving on her phone.
Forty minutes later, she pulled up in front of the villa's grand entrance. When she left this place just days ago, she never imagined she'd be back so soon. She bit her lower lip, then got out with determination and walked up to the door.
As she mentally prepared to ring the doorbell, her phone suddenly rang. She paused and answered it. It was the police station, telling her they'd found Mateo and she should come over.
Selena felt a rush of shock and relief. Maybe Mateo had just wandered past Moon Bay without anyone noticing, and the police found him. What a relief!
Her racing heart finally calmed. She hopped back in the car and drove straight to the police station.
It was just a ten-minute drive. She parked quickly and dashed inside. The place was almost empty, with just a couple of officers on duty.
There, she immediately saw little Mateo sitting quietly on a row of chairs against the wall. Tears brimmed in her eyes.
That little rascal.
He had worried her to no end.
She was about to run over and hug him when she noticed a man sitting next to Mateo and stopped in her tracks. Her eyes widened in shock. Everett!
What was he doing here?
He wasn't wearing his usual suit jacket; his black shirt had a few buttons undone, and his sleeves were rolled up. He looked relaxed, like he'd just come from home.
So, he was there with Mateo.
That meant they had met, and Everett was the one who brought Mateo to the police station.
Talk about a twist of fate; this was worse than any scenario she had imagined.noveldrama
Selena felt rooted to the spot, unable to move.
The moment Everett saw Selena, he was just as taken aback, but he wasn't clueless. Seeing the alarm Selena's face, countless thoughts raced through his mind.
This little guy was her child?
Sure enough, Mateo's eyes lit up when he saw her, and he called out, "Mommy!" trying to run to her.
But Everett's hand gently held him back by the shoulder, stopping Mateo without much effort.
Mateo looked up at Everett, confused, "Uncle, I want to go to mommy."
Everett's eyes were stormy, his presence icy. Ignoring Mateo's plea,

He stood up, his intense gaze fixed on the stunned Selena.
With barely contained anger, he asked, "Selena, whose child is he?"
