Chapter 42: Brooklyn Got a Whiff of Diana’s Bodily Scent
Brooklyn’s meaningful glance fell upon Diana.
“My assistant Anna, be careful not to be too greedy, you know.” Brooklyn’s voice was a whisper and it was devoid of emotion, “Be careful not to be toppled over by your mischief and wit.’
She was really forward thinking. He didn’t expect her to want him to cover for her forever.
Brooklyn had to admit that Anna was one interesting and amusing woman.
However, that alone was not enough to prompt him to agree to be her protector forever.
…
Diana was not someone without a temper.
After finishing her lunch in the employee’s resting room, she informed Harper about her departure without even returning to her office first. She simply left the company with her handbag hoisted and her high heels clicking underneath.
She wasn’t a fool. Since her superior had given her the green light to stroll out there without the need to work in the company, why should she continue wasting her time in the company?
After she reached home, she kicked off her high heels and with her laptop in her embrace, she started to reply her clients’ email.
After half an hour, she leaned against the sofa and just as she was about to sink into her dreamland, her phone rang.
Diana clambered up and plucked her phone and saw to her amazement that the caller was Brooklyn.
She suddenly had vested interest in the call as she answered it, “Mr. Powell, what’s the matter?”
She didn’t have much time to rest before she was disturbed again.
Was he going to eat his own words and ask her to get back to work?
“Where are you now?” The man’s voice was cold.
Diana recalled Brooklyn’s reminder this morning, and with a flash of inspiration, she switched on the television and played a drama.
In no time, the whole room was filled with television noise which transmitted through her receiver.
“Mr. Powell, I am at the mall now. Didn’t you say that you want me by your side at the banquet thrown by Mr. and Mrs. Hill tomorrow? I am strolling LIK mall and am choosing a suitable gown. Listen, there are people around here talking, don’t you hear it?”
“Anna, you’re always the smart one, but now you’re unlike your usual self. The LIK mall is a luxury mall under the flag of the Powell Group. My men are there, don’t you think that I should be familiar with the situation there?”
Diana couldn’t come up with a response.
After a few second of silence, she decided to wipe off her lies.
“Mr. Powell, I am being serious when I said that I don’t want anything to do with your marriage with Ms. Moss. I admit that you are quite the looker, and I have never seen any guy who could pique my interest like you. However, I am very aware that I am just a nobody with no background, and I harbour no dream of turning into a swan while I am an ugly duckling. If you concern yourself with me too much, and if your Ms. Moss and your mother start to bear some grudge towards me, how do you think I am going to survive in Sliwell?”
Diana’s words made a lot of sense.
Brooklyn had already sent someone to investigate. Yesterday, Ms. Powell indeed summoned her to the Powell mansion.
And to top it off, Diana was destroying the stuffs in front of his eyes.
Brooklyn clutched his phone tighter, “If you are always within my field of vision, I guarantee that they won’t be a threat to you.”
Diana laughed nonchalantly, “Mr. Powell, I know that your influences reach far and wide. You have the whole of Sliwell in your palms. But what if there are places you can’t reach? You can underestimate anything, but don’t underestimate the conviction of a woman thirsty for revenge.”
Brooklyn furrowed his brows and finally broke his silence after a while, “What else do you have to say?”
Diana seemed to give it a thought, “Let me take back my words just now. I don’t think that I am incapable of turning it a white swan from an ugly duckling… In fact, I am already a swan in the first place.”
Brooklyn pressed his lips into a line and his brows formed even deeper creases on his forehead.
What the hell was this woman thinking all day long?
Diana shut her laptop and added, “Mr. Powell, I will remember our little promise here. At least, as your partner for the banquet, the least you can do for me is to prevent me from going through what I have gone through yesterday. I am just carrying out my duties as an employee of the Powell Group while our contract is still in effect.”
After hanging up the phone, Diana didn’t put on any makeup. She just wore a pair of sunglasses to conceal her bare face and she went out with her high heels.
She had changed her suit after going home.
Now, she was wearing a pair of short jeans, while flaunted her long and slender legs. Any passers-by who saw those gorgeous legs would not be able to pluck their eyes off the sight.
Although Brooklyn didn’t give her any permanent promise, but based on his personality, he would always carry out a promise.
As long as she could get her revenge while their promise still held…
As Diana entertained this thought, she exited the elevator and just as she was about to fetch her car from the garage while navigating through the area familiarly, she peeked a black sports car parked not far away.
At that moment, the man who was supposed to be at the Powell Group was leaning against the body of the car lazily.
Diana took off her sunglasses and revealed for the first time her non-makeup face.
“Mr. Powell, why are you here…”
The first thing Diana had done after getting home was to remove the makeup on her face.
At this moment, on her pale and petite face, there was no makeup at all besides the most basic skin care.
Her pale skin had a hue of pink on it, and her long brows accentuated her sparkling eyes, which were all taken in by the man.
If he didn’t see her resume, he wouldn’t have guessed that this woman indeed graduated from a famous university overseas, and she was already passed her twenties.
Otherwise, Brooklyn would find it hard to believe that a woman with such an innocent face was actually a world-famous perfumer.
She was feigning her mature side while she was in public eyes but outside of such scrutiny, she looked like a completely different person.
Brooklyn fixed his gaze on Diana, and he slowly examined her non-makeup face and to her long legs. Then, he spoke, “Get in.”
“Mr, Powell, I am just going to choose a gown at the mall. Are you going to tag along for that too?” Diana replaced her sunglasses again to hide her bare face.
She was feeling a little regretful now. If she had known that Brooklyn would return, she would have put on some makeup.
Not many people had witnessed her bare face. Rachel was one of the only few.
Rachel used to shake her head and said, “Diana, it’s not easy for you to look mature with your face… you are looking like a baby!”
Diana curled up her lips. She had no way of changing her face since it was part of her genetics given by her parents. ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
If she wanted to stabilize herself in her workplace, she had to conceal her original look. She couldn’t just give off the impression that she was a demure and innocent girl.
Therefore, she had to put on heavy makeup to make her look mature.
Brooklyn stole a glance at the woman in the passenger’s seat, “Strap your seatbelt.”
Diana’s faint bodily scent was slowly filling the air in the car.
One of the reasons why Brooklyn had decided to let this woman stay by his side was not only because of her talent of being a perfumer, but also because somehow her bodily scent could lull him to sleep easily.
Ever since Diana’s hiring in the Powell Group, he no longer needed Mirabelle’s perfume to help him sleep after returning from work.
“The perfume you use on yourself today, is it one of your creations too?” Brooklyn asked.
Diana shook her head, “I didn’t put on any perfume today.”
As a perfumer, she didn’t use a lot of perfume in real life.
The reason was that she didn’t want her scent to deteriorate, and another reason was that she had to think for her clients.
If her clients came to her for her services but was confused by the perfume she put on her body, they would lose the ability to differentiate between the scent they really loved and the one on her. This would be a major flaw in her profession!
In the past six years, Diana had got used to not wearing any perfume, unless it was a special occasion.
