Chapter 75
Lucy POV
I hated the idea of having to get in the car with my mate's ex and the woman responsible for all the drama caused, but when Ace couldn't get a hold of Ryker through the link, we figured he was too far away.
Melana sat in the back with me, staring out the window and pressing against the door and as far away from me as possible. She seemed increasingly nervous, and she began to fidget the further into my stepfather's territory we got. Was she worried for her sister? I couldn't see how her sister could escape or how she planned to. She was in the cells. There was no escape from them. She was under guard, yet something about her nervousness made me worry. It wasn't until we were halfway to the Packhouse that we were alerted something was wrong when Ryker's voice boomed across the mind link, not only to his pack members but ours to get to the Packhouse immediately screaming that my mother was in trouble.
I press my fingers to my temple as voices suddenly flood my head and Ace nearly veered off the road before jerking the steering wheel and pulling us back on the road. For Ryker to be mind linking, he must be on his way back from wherever he went.
My heart jolted in my chest when he said the Packhouse was on fire and my mother was trapped inside. I tried to mind link Rayan before forgetting I wasn't a part of my family's pack anymore but Ace and Tyson's. We were no longer linked unless they opened it to me, and I glanced at Ace and Tyson.
"Mind link Rayan," I tell Tyson, knowing he could link anyone being a hybrid and not a mutation like me, knowing he could get in anyone's head. I watch as his eyes glaze over before they return to their sparkling fluorescent silver color before he tries again, but it was the same result.
"Well?" I ask, and he shakes his head.
"It's like he is too far away, I can't reach him, or he is knocked out," Tyson offers, and I turn to look at Melana sitting beside me. She glances at me, and her entire body tenses and a whimper escapes her.
"What was Josie asked to do? What was she supposed to do for Alpha Jamie?" I ask her realizing it was one question we all forgot to ask.
We were too busy trying to get a hold of Ryker. We never thought to get a hold of mum, and mum has had trouble mind linking anyone besides Ryker. The longer she goes with Amanda suppressed, the more she turns vampire, the fewer traits she has from her wolf side.
Her vampire side became more dominant, and I never realized what a disadvantage that was when she only had a direct link to her pack and mate now.
"He wanted to use Rayan for a blood bond to Emily, Jamie's daughter. It was a backup plan he had on the side, I didn't know until I disagreed with it and he locked me up, but Josie didn't care she wanted her mate, she will do anything to get her mate back."
"You didn't think to mention that detail back at the house?" I growl at her, fur starts spreading across my arms, and my canines slip from my gums as my wolf becomes just as enraged. Lucille wanted to tear her to pieces and watch her die slowly.
"Lucy!" Tyson snaps, turning in his seat to look at me as I fought Lucille for control. He reaches over, gripping my hand and squeezing it.
"Lucy, get a grip of yourself. You shift, you will hurt yourself while in the car. Kill her after we get your mother," Tyson says before he turns and looks at Melana.
"I suggest you shut up, I won't stop her if she kills you," Tyson snaps at her, and I grit my teeth when Ace suddenly gasps, and my eyes look to the windshield to see the Packhouse set ablaze.
I knew it was on fire but didn't expect the carnage before our eyes. Plumes of smoke filled the air, and warriors tossed water onto the burning building, trying to extinguish the inferno.
"My family," I gasp, clutching my mouth with my hands in horror. Melana's eyes widened in horror as she to leaned forward. The entire thing was engulfed except two bedrooms on this side, and pack members stood outside trying to extinguish the fire. Ace skids a stop, dust and dirt spraying everywhere, and I was out the door before the car entirely stopped.
"Mum, Rayan!" I screamed when suddenly there was an explosion, and I was tossed backward. The gas cylinders at the side of the house for the stove exploded under the heat. The loud bang made my ears ring, and the ground shook. I am slammed against Ace's car from the blast, and I dent the door as I crash against it, but adrenaline was pumping as fear flooded me, were my brothers still in there? A huge gaping hole was now where the gas cylinders were, flames licking up the side of the Packhouse, and a tree close to the house had now caught fire.
I feel blood trickle down my face, and I pull a piece of metal from my cheek. I barely feel anything when I notice my mother standing at one of the second-floor windows, warriors trying to climb up to her as she screamed at them to stop. "Jump," I screamed to her when one of the warriors looked at me in horror before rushing over. He was around Ace and Tyson's age, gangly looking and has a dark mop of hair, his face covered in soot, and I noticed he had burns that were healing up one arm like he tried to break in already to get to my mother.
"Mum, jump. Where are Rayan and Ryden," I ask her, and she looks over at me.
"She can't. She was commanded to remain on the second floor,"
"What?" I gasped in horror. The man shrugs, using the garden hose to try and extinguish the flames, but it is of no use. There was no putting out the fire as it burned my childhood, burned our home, a home that had stood for generations. Papa Reid was raised in this house, and he raised his own children here before Ryker took over and raised me. It was all going to perish, and so was my mother if we couldn't get her out.
"Your brothers aren't in there. Josie took them; your mother has been mind linking. She sent warriors to find them but no trace of them. It is like they just vanished,"
"Please tell me you can do something. Can you override your brother's command?" I ask desperately, and Tyson swallows, looking back toward the window where my mother stared off blankly. I could see she was mind linking and no doubt was either trying to contact Rayan or my stepfather.
"How far out is Ryker?" I ask, turning back to the man. The warrior from before glances over at us, holding the hose through the burst living room window.
"Twenty minutes, same as the fire brigade, he said when he gets closer, he will shift and run to get here quicker, its also peak hour traffic in the city, and the bridge is still closed on the other side in," the man answers, warriors were running around everywhere. I could hear sirens barely, but even I knew they would be just as far out coming from the City, and I was only just able to faintly make them out if it was even them.
"She doesn't have twenty minutes," I murmur to no one.noveldrama
