Chapter 38
Chapter 38
Hailey's POV
After my shower, I dress up in all black to respect the ones we have lost today but most importantly to
show respect to Stacey. I will not deny that she was the meanest person to me and I can never excuse
her for it, but I am here, alive and she isn't.
Her life was cut short... by people who maybe should not be making these decisions.
I walk out to go join everyone outside, as they sat by the table and enjoying a feast prepared by the
cooks in my pack. The pack my father and I will soon have to return to, to better run it and I have a few
ideas on how this will be done. Simply put, out with the old and in with the new... me.
I sit next to my father and sitting right opposite me was none other than, Jaxon and his silly crew. He
was still bathed in the blood of one of our own and he looked at me, zero emotion in his eyes... zero
shocker there. I think the only thing to shock me was the fact that his look did nothing to my insides and
I fear that that could be a risk in our nonexistent relationship.
I look away, someone brings me a plate and I start to dig in without greeting anyone. I could not talk to
anyone that decided to stay in the blood of a woman who we could have used different ways to punish
for her weirdly violent mind.
Luckily, my father listened to my speech and freshened up. The pack seemed to also get the memo,
everyone from Cayden to the cooks were all cleaned up real nice. I smiled at my dad, making sure he
knows that his gesture has not gone unnoticed.
I clink my water glass with my fork and I stand up to say a few words.
"Today has been an eye opener for many, including myself. To our visitors, I hope you have received
your closure and can return to your homes, pleased with yourselves." I start to say but Jaxon jumps in,
interrupting me.
"It would have been more enjoyable had we not been told that our way of life is barbaric and that we
should not have killed the person responsible for an attack on our pack." Jaxon says and I smile at him.
"You think I want to change your way of life?" I ask him. Everyone looks at him, waiting for an answer.
"How can I not? You berated us on how we were so cruel to kill your evil step mother." He says to me. I
feel a little anger pass through me, but just as I said, it passes through me and I find the little peace on
reserve within me.
"I would expect a male to react this way. I would have been surprised if you did not feel that way and if
you think I am here to change your way of life then you are right. That is why I am here, a whole wolf
that seems to be mated to another wolf. That is my whole entire existence! To change how things are
for the Shera's of the future and if you, the man that was chosen to walk this path with me is reluctant
to walk this journey with me, then the future of all wolves should not be left in your hands." I say and he
growls.
"You seem to have forgotten your role in all of this. We don't have to like each other Jaxon, but it is your
job to put your seed in me and to bring forth a new breed in to this world but if you are not up to the
task, I don't mind finding someone that can handle a little change. I am not the one asking for it but it
will happen with or without your approval." I say and people are taken by surprise with my choice of
words towards their alpha. Text © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
"You say you have been a wolf all of five minutes but look at you finding the balls to talk to me like
that?" Jaxon says to me and I chuckle.
“Is this your way of asking where this confidence was when Stacey attacked me? Somewhere lost
between my mate leaving me when we were obviously under attack and dealing with the fact that I
have to fight for my life when I don’t know the first thing about fighting a trained warrior.” I say to my
handsome mate. Jaxon’s mouth opens and closes, trying to find a response to my words.
"You were invited here out of courtesy. Stacey and the others, attacked your pack in search of me and
that is the only reason you are here. Don't fool yourself in to thinking otherwise. I did not ask for you to
be here, your father is the alpha that was invited, as you are not alpha yet, I owe you no special
respect. You and I are equals when we look at the position, we are both in and I will remind you every
chance I get." I say and Jaxon growls before storming off and his little doll, Azuri runs after him after
glaring at me for a few seconds.
I sit down to enjoy my food, completely aware of the eyes on me. I could feel that some eyes were
unfriendly but I paid them no mind. I was still mad about the way we handled Stacey and too furious to
care about how I should really feel.
Once done, they take my plate and I stand up to walk away.
"Alpha, thank you for coming. I will now excuse myself and my father will see you off." I say to Jaxon's
dad, who nods at me without saying anything.
I walk away and my future beta. Cayden, follows me. I walk in to the house to pack up. It was time to
go back to our pack. Maybe some distance will have Jaxon thinking differently and maybe the human
side of me will force the wolf side of me to let go of Jaxon and forget about this mate business.
"Unlikely!" My wolf says to me.
I make it to my room to find Jaxon sitting on my bed, holding on to my pillow. When Cayden and I walk
in, he drops the pillow and stands up.
"So, this is the guy you want to replace me with?" Jaxon asks. Cayden walks out and closes the door,
refusing to entertain Jaxon out of respect for me.
"What do you want in my room, Jaxon?" I ask my mate.
"How can you leave without saying anything? Fixing things?" He asks me and I pause first before
laughing out in shock.
"Are you kidding? I hugged you and you did not even hug me back!" I say and he sits back down,
running his hand through his hair.
"Before then." He says and I turn around to open the door.
"Jaxon, you lashed at me for not being able to fight a woman that has known she has been a wolf all
her life. You berated me and made me feel so useless, leaving me to fend for myself after telling me
you want to spend the rest of your life with me. For you to walk in to my room and expect an apology
out of me is insulting and I suggest you go home and think about how to better approach this matter. I
will not tell you again that you are on the verge of losing me... like on the verge, okay? I am tired of
your stupid childish games. The silent treatment and now the blame game... just grow up and man the
fuck up!" I say before using my head to signal for him to get out of my room.
Cayden was at the door, seems like he had never left and Jaxon notices, walking to the door and
shutting it before kissing my lips and the sparks fly. .
