Chapter 242
While she was busy texting Charles, Dylan had inched over without her noticing and was now staring at her with unblinking eyes. He was rather curious and intrigued by what she was doing. He wanted to know who Naomi was texting and why her expression had changed all of a sudden.
Naomi froze in surprise. She did not expect Dylan to be staring at her, much less with such an expression. It looked to her as though Dylan was scrutinizing her.
Sometimes, she did not know how to act around him.
When he saw her put down her phone, Dylan blinked and grinned at her. "Who are you talking to, Naomi? Is it Scott?"
Naomi was rather worried about what Dylan would say next. She had wanted to say something, but Dylan had cut her off before she could do so.
However, she did not intend to lie to him, so she truthfully replied, "No."
Dylan raised his brows quizzically. Clearly, he was surprised. "No? I thought you were talking to him. Who else could it be, though? You didn't look happy just now."
Before she could even reply, he added, "Don't overthink this, Naomi. Scott had told me to take good care of you while he was gone, so I was just curious if it's something I can help with. I don't want him to kill me when he's back! If anything is bothering you, you can tell me, Naomi, and I'll do my best to help."
Dylan was sure he could help with whatever was bothering Naomi at that time.
Naomi smiled. She did not think Scott had truly meant what he said at all, but instead, Dylan was just exaggerating. She relaxed and said, "I'm not unhappy. I just found out a friend of mine had come to Herland unexpectedly, so I wanted to go meet him."
"Oh… I see. It's no problem at all." Dylan gasped in realization, then said, "Any friend of yours is a friend of mine, Naomi. Where is he now? I'll send someone to pick him up from the airport."
With that, he whipped out his phone, but Naomi quickly stopped him. "No, it's okay. I'll go meet him myself. I don't want to get in your way."
She glanced out the window and said, "You still have to bring everybody to lunch, so I don't want to throw off your plans. I'll have lunch with my friend by myself and come by once I'm finished."
They were supposed to meet at the project site after lunch. Naomi was planning to return there once Charles had settled in, then show Charles around Herland in the evening after she was done with her work. She knew that Charles was here to see her, so she wanted to be a good host.
"How can I allow that? I can't be rude to your friend, Naomi. Come on. Just tell me where he is. I'll send someone to pick him up." Dylan ignored her entirely and instead dialed a number on his phone and barked, "Hey, I need help picking someone up." All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
Then, he turned to Naomi. "Where is your friend now, Naomi?"
Naomi knew Dylan was being helpful, but she did not expect him to be this helpful.
