Chapter 1289
"Crash!"
Wesley suddenly slammed his cup down, frowning at May. "What are you thinking? This is the current head of the Costello family, not Gordon."
May paused, looking at Colby in front of her. "He's not Gordon? But wasn't Sophie..."
"Enough. The tea's gone cold. Make a fresh pot," Wesley interrupted, pushing the teapot toward May. She wanted to argue, but Wesley was already addressing a nearby servant. "Take the lady downstairs." "Yes, sir."
The servant stepped forward, helping May as they headed upstairs.
Sophie watched May, noticing her looking back every few steps, her eyes fixed on Sophie, stirring an odd feeling inside her.
"Sorry about that," Wesley said with a cold tone. "She had a severe illness over a decade ago, which left her a bit off-balance, prone to talking nonsense."
"Over a decade ago?" Sophie picked up on the significant detail.
Wesley looked up. "Just an illness, nothing more. Please don't overthink it."
At that moment, a housekeeper approached. "Sir, dinner is ready."
"Since you're here, please join us for dinner," Wesley invited, turning to the housekeeper. "Go call the young master and Ms. Jenna to dinner as well." "Yes, sir."
As the housekeeper went to summon Adler, Sophie discreetly squeezed Colby's arm. To reassure her, Colby gently patted the back of her hand.
They had given Adler and Jenna enough time; it should be almost done. Sure enough, Adler and Jenna appeared from the corner, running in from the backyard. Jenna signaled Sophie with her eyes, indicating their success. Sophie stood up with Colby. "Mr. Wesley, we really must be going. We have other matters to attend to."
"I won't keep you then," Wesley said, showing no intention to stop them. He didn't even get up to see them off.
Sophie gave Adler and Jenna a look, and they stepped forward. Jenna said, "Mr. Wesley, we'll be leaving now." Wesley nodded.NôvelDrama.Org content rights.
Adler followed, saying, "Dad, we're heading out."
Wesley didn't react at all.
...
Quickly, Adler led the group out of
the
Jed estate. Once in the car,
remarked, "I think he doesn't
like your dad."
"Right, I'm way more handsome," Adler joked.
Jenna added, "Honestly, you look more like his grandson."
"You react to him like a mouse does to a cat, and I'm not even exaggerating," Jenna noted.
From the backseat, Sophie, still
frowning, asked, "Mr. Adler, what et
illness did May have over a decade ago that left her so confused?
"It wasn't an illness; it was trauma," Adler replied while driving. "Did I ever tell you about my mom's family?"
Sophie shook her head, and Jenna did the same.
"Actually, my mom is from a branch of the Aldridge family," Adler revealed. Sophie and Jenna looked shocked.
Adler continued, "I heard that there was a kidnapping incident in the Aldridge family back then. Harold was taken, and it caused a huge upheaval. My mom was very worried about the Aldridge family's situation. In the end, Harold was captured Gordon's legs were damaged, and the Aldridge family's head couple died in a car accident. It was a huge shock to my mom, and afterward, her mental state became somewhat unbalanced. There was a time she couldn't even recognize people. It took years for her to get somewhat better, but she still can't remember many things clearly and tends to be confused."
