Chapter 1805
The coastal wind was fierce that day. Sophie plopped herself down by the beach, taking it all in. While Odie went off to grab some drinks, he thoughtfully brought back a bottle of soda for Sophie. The sea breeze played with her hair, and Odie couldn't help but admire her-perfect from every angle. No wonder Colby was smitten at first sight. It was definitely her charm.
With that in mind, Odie took a swig of his beer. Sophie, clutching her orange soda, cast a curious glance at the beer in his hand.
"Want to give it a try?" Odie teased, waving the beer around playfully. As Sophie reached out, he pulled it back with a smirk. "Ladies should stick to lighter stuff."
Sophie could only sigh, "I've never had alcohol."
"Gordon won't let you?"noveldrama
"Yeah!"
"Sounds a bit overprotective."
"He's just looking out for me," Sophie explained. "My family spoils me, treats me like a kid. But I'm in college now; I can handle myself. I want to try adult things."
"Adult things, huh? Didn't peg you for a rebel," Odie chuckled.
"It's not that crazy. I just want to travel alone, try a beer, maybe hit up a dance club or sing at karaoke all night."
"Oh," Odie replied, a bit surprised. "What did you think I meant?"
Odie looked away, trying to play it cool. "That's nothing. If you want, I can show you the ropes."
"But aren't those places a bit sketchy?"
"Scaredy-cat, and you want to be an adult?" Odie teased, standing up. "The grown-up world isn't all it's cracked up to be. You should just head home and sleep it off."
"Hey! Don't leave!" Sophie called, grabbing his sleeve.
Odie sighed, "Let go."
"No way!"
"Sophie, playing tough isn't gonna cut it with me."
"I'm serious!" she insisted. "If you leave, I'll be lost."
Odie rubbed his temples, resigned. "Alright, get up. I'll take you back."
"Okay!" Sophie jumped to her feet.
Odie glanced at her sandy feet, then at the sneakers in her hand, before bending down. "Hop on."
Sophie hesitated, then clambered onto Odie's back. She was light, easier to carry than a bag of flour.
As they headed towards the dock, t
where Qdie's motorcycle was parked Sophie asked, "Why are you so fearless? I'm eighteen and scared of everything."
"When you've been through tough times, nothing scares you."
"You've been through that?"
"No."
"Then how do you know?"
Odie's voice was even. "I've scavenged for food in a graveyard before."
His words caught Sophie off
