Chapter 661
Chapter 661:
Jareth Williamson’s face remained grim, and without needing to ask, he immediately directed his cold anger at Rowan. “Are you insane? What the hell is going on here?”
Rowan, already wincing in pain, pointed furiously at Allison. “Don’t listen to her! She set me up! She’s no simple cleaner — she might even be an assassin! She’s—”
Before he could finish, Allison interrupted him with a fresh burst of sobs.
“Mr. Gilbert, if I could really kill you, I wouldn’t be in this condition.” With a shaky hand, she pulled up her sleeve to reveal the bruises marking her arm, the evidence of her struggles. Allison was ruthless not only to others but also to herself.
The murmurs in the crowd began to pick up.
“Rowan’s always been a creep, trying to make advances on the cleaners. There’ve been complaints about him for ages.”
“Poor Alice, nearly assaulted by him…”
“A girl like her, so delicate with those slender wrists — there’s no way she could’ve taken down Rowan. I think he’s just lying to cover his tracks!”
“Exactly! Those injuries on him look like they came from tools. It’s clear she was forced to fight back and hurled these tools at him.”
The crowd’s judgment was quick and unforgiving. Rowan’s eyes widened in disbelief. “I never hit you, you liar — stop with these lies!”
But his voice was cut off once more, this time by Jareth’s rising fury.
“Shut up!” Jareth snapped, his voice colder than before. “The boss is coming today. If you keep this up, you know exactly what will happen.”
The mention of the boss made Rowan’s expression sour instantly. Damn it. He had forgotten about the boss. He had to swiftly settle things down, no matter how reluctant he was.
With a frustrated growl, Rowan bit back his rage. “Fine. I get it. I’m sorry. It won’t happen again.”
He promised himself that this wouldn’t be the end of it — he’d make sure to settle things with Alice later.
While Allison continued to sob, her head lowered, she was actually far from defeated. Inwardly, she was desperately trying to figure out just who the “boss” was that they kept referring to. She had asked Gordon to investigate the mysterious figure behind the research institute, but so far, their search had yielded nothing. The boss was as elusive as a shadow, just beyond reach.
Then, a stammering voice pierced the tension.
“Boss… what brings you here?”
The crowd parted to create a path, and an eerie silence fell over the corridor — not the kind of silence in the break room with Jareth, but a deathly stillness. Everyone held their breath, hoping to fade into the background, as if they could become invisible.
Allison’s gaze moved slowly, unwilling to meet the eyes of whoever had just entered — like a wild animal refusing to face a predator.
She took in his shoes first, then the tailored trousers, the black shirt, and the silvery tie.
