Why Him Of All People?
Christina woke up with a slight groan when the rays of sun hits her face through the seeping curtains of her bedroom window. She didn't think that she'd be able to sleep at all last night due the fact that everywhere in the house seemed kind of uncomfortable and strange to her. It took her a while to come to terms with the fact that she was no longer at the convent anymore. She hadn't adjusted in properly but she knew that it'll only be for a short while.
Pushing the covers off her body, she made her way towards the bathroom to freshen up. When she was done, she pulled out her bags to take out a few things. At that moment, there was a sound knock on the door. Christina abandoned what she was doing and hurriedly went to open it only to see her sister standing there.
"Trust you had a good night rest?" Hera asked before inviting herself into her sister's room. Christina shut the door after her.
"I did. It was a little difficult at first but I know that I'll get used to it. I'm just a little jetlagged that's all." Christina assured her with a tired smile. "What about you? Did you sleep well?"
"Other than Lia keeping us awake most of the night, yes, I did sleep fine. Do you have anything planned for today?" Hera asked when she noticed the books and items scattered on her sister's bed.
"Registration at school. I still have some things to take care of before I resume fully and I have to do most of them in person." She sighed weakly. "It's good though. At least that way I can get familiar with everything in time for lectures."
"Why don't you get started with cleaning up and I'll make you breakfast before you leave." Hera offered and Christina nodded her head in appreciation.
"Thank you, sister."
The next few hours that followed, Christina did as her sister had said. When she was finished, she wore her clothes and picked up her bag before making her way downstairs and towards the dining area.
She found Bryce sitting on the chair having coffee in his well polished suit. Christina guessed that he was equally dressed up to leave for work. "Morning, big brother." She greeted with a smile and Bryce returned it with a cheerful one as he regarded her presence in the room.
"Morning kiddo. Hera told me about your registration today? Do you need my help with anything? I can accompany you if you want me to."
She shook her head negatively. "I want to try this on my own. Both of you won't be there to always help me out all the time so I want to try doing this by myself to make things easier for me in the long run."
Christina knew that they had important things going on in their lives and she didn't want to add to them. They had already done so much for her and she didn't want to be selfish. In a way, she was also right because Bryce won't be available to always help her so she had to start doing things on her own.
"Okay then, how about I drop you off and pick you up later when you're done. You still don't know your way around here and I don't want anything bad happening to you. I can do that much as your brother, right?" Bryce asked and she chuckled.
"I was about to ask before you offered. Thank you." She said and he mouthed her
a "you're welcome" Before continuing with his coffee. Hera served breakfast a while later. Christina could barely eat because she couldn't contain her
excitement. When she was finished, she bid her sister goodbye before exiting the house with Bryce.
He opened up the car door for her and she got in and settled herself inside.
"Is college really far from here?" She asked when Bryce took the wheel.
"Kind of but you'll be fine. It's your first year and if you feel like you can't handle the stress later on, we can always find a comfortable apartment for you to stay around school or I could get you a driver until you learn how to drive."
Christina's mouth fell to the ground. "Drive? You mean a car? For me?"
"Anything to make your school life easy. You're my little sister and you deserve the best. Just make sure to tell us when it gets too tough to handle. I promise that we're always going to help out no matter what." Bryce declared with a smile and Christina nodded her head at him.
The rest of the journey went smoothly and a while later, they arrived at the entrance.
"You have my number right? Always make sure to call me or your sister if you need anything and I mean anything at all, alright?" He instructed and Christina agreed.
Bryce had seen and witnessed
college first-hand. He knew the danger that lurked around so well Given his track record as a man-whore before, he knew just what he was talking about and what he was trying to protect her from.
The likes of his former self. If
anyone had told him that he'd one
day be this protective over
somebody, he wouldn't believe it but
here he was now.
If only he could protect her from the dangers of the world himself, he would. She was his responsibility now.
"Also, make sure to be careful Christina. College is trouble believe me and it always finds a way of pulling you in when you least expect it. Just focus on what you came here for and call me to pick you up when you're done."
Christina has heard a lot of stories about college and somehow, she was prepared for it. Even though something is considered bad, it doesn't mean it has no goodness in it right? Wish she could say the same for everybody.
"Alright big brother. See you later." She waved at him and he waved back before driving off. Christina stared at the huge open gates that was somehow the beginning of her future. She felt nervous to the bone but tried her best to shake it off. Taking in a huge breath, she marched inside, determined to get through the day no matter what.
Christina made her way towards the admission's office after asking for directions to submit some papers and pick out her major courses. Bryce had covered up the financial aspect of everything when she got accepted so she had him to thank for that.
Never in her wildest dreams did she ever think that she would one day set her foot into college. It felt like a whole new experience for her. She saw different people, tall buildings and beautiful hangout spots everywhere. It marveled her.noveldrama
She arrived at the admission's block minutes after and made her way inside to complete her registration The process was long and draining but few hours later, she was able to cover everything. After that, she placed a call to Bryce that she was done and that he could come and pick her up. On her way out, she accidentally bumped into someone from outside and her items came crashing to the ground.
"I'm so sorry. I'm a little clumsy at times." Christina apologized to the guy that she had bumped into as he helped her pick up her stuff that had fallen to the ground.
"It's alright. We all make mistakes." He answered before standing up to his feet. He handed her books to her and she took it gratefully. "I'm Nathan by the way." He stretched out his hands and Christina hesitated for a bit before taking it.
"Christina." She answered. "Thank you for helping me with my things. Have a nice day." She smiled at him and turned to leave but he stopped her in her tracks. "You're new around here aren't you? If you don't mind, I can show you around school and help you settle in."
"That won't be necessary. My brother is on his way to get me so maybe next time. Thank you for offering though." She answered and made to leave for the second time but he stopped her.
"Is everything okay?"
"I'm sorry for being such a bother. I honestly didn't mean to, I promise. Is it okay if
I walk with you and keep you company until your brother arrives?" Christina thought about his offer. Somehow, she didn't feel completely good about
it even though it was a harmless one but she agreed nonetheless. "Of course."
Nathan smiled at her and Christina
forced a smile herself. She made
sure to put some visible space between the two of them as they walked Nathan on the other hand didn't seem to bother about that. Instead, he took his time explaining things to her and telling her about school. He answered whatever questions she had about the school as well. She liked that he was nice to her but she knew better than to trust
him.
"Thank you for walking me, Nathan." Christina said gratefully when they got to the place where Bryce had dropped her off earlier.
"The pleasure is all mine. If it's alright with you, can I please have your—" The rest of Nathan's words are cut short when a car pulls up in front of them. The door to the car pushes open and a huge, tall figure stepped out of it.
"Big brother, I was just about to—" Christina's words are stuck in her throat when
she came face to face with the person who had actually come to pick her up in place of Bryce.
She rolled her eyes unintention
ally. What was he doing here and why on earth does it have to be him of all
people?
What do you think?
