Chapter 432 Uninvited Guest
Hearing this, Emily was stunned. Her smile froze, and she turned to look at Archibald. "What did you do wrong?"
Archibald was also taken aback, not because of Emily's question, but because of the smile on her face. It was a smile he hadn't seen in a long time. It was like a spring breeze melting the winter snow, deeply moving him.
"Archibald, what's wrong?"
Archibald was lost in thought, and it was Emily who snapped him out of it.
He forced a stiff smile, one that looked awkward and rushed.
No one knew that at that moment, Archibald's heart was in turmoil.
He had to admit that if he was just a little interested in Emily before, now he was completely captivated by the world with her in it.
"I'm fine... Emily, you..."
At the same time, what Archibald didn't expect was that Emily didn't seem to care much about Leo's continuous provocations. She wasn't as upset as she had been when Veda verbally attacked her at the JM Jewelry Company exhibition.
Archibald wanted to ask Emily why, but he couldn't bring himself to bring up the earlier incident.
Fortunately, Emily noticed something. She knew Archibald's current mood all too well, so she smiled and responded, "It's nothing. Mr. Ward's words are things I've heard before. There have been plenty of people attacking me, one more doesn't make a difference.
"At least he showed his true colors in front of the media out of concern for his son. I guess.... I didn't misjudge him back then. I didn't fall for their family's tricks. Otherwise, I would have just jumped out of the frying pan into the fire."
Hearing Emily joke about herself like this, Archibald felt even more heartache for her. But given his current status, all he could do was silently protect her.
"But what about you, Archibald? Why are you here today?"
"Today... I'm sorry, Emily, can you wait for me a moment? I need to go find a friend!"
Archibald, busy playing the hero and standing up for justice, had completely forgotten about the meal he had planned with a friend. It only just came back to him now.
For the next few days, just as Emily had expected, her name and Archibald's were side by side on the front pages of Emerald City's social news.
The reports about them were overwhelming and continuous.
Despite this, Emily acted as if she didn't see any of it. She continued her daily routine of working online, doing prenatal education for her baby, making food for herself, keeping fit, and living her life seriously.
Emily's current plan was simple: work hard at the company to make money, and once the baby was born, she would submit her resignation letters and quietly leave Emerald City for a place where no one knew them.
Why did she insist on having the baby in Emerald City?
Firstly, to spend more time with Abigail, who was busy job hunting and couldn't take care of herself properly.
Secondly, because of Michael.
After all, he was the baby's father, and Emily couldn't help but feel soft-hearted towards him.
One morning, as Emily was preparing breakfast, her phone rang.
It was Michael calling.
Emily hadn't seen a call from this contact in a long time. She was surprised, and a ripple of emotion stirred within her. She didn't know what Michael wanted, but after a moment's thought, she answered.
"What's up?" Emily asked in a very calm tone.
Having liked Michael for so long, it was hard to let go all at once.
But Emily no longer had high expectations for him. Whenever she thought of Michael,
she couldn't help but think of Scarlett, Veda, and even Sophia.
Thinking of these people brought back the humiliation she had endured over the years, making it impossible for Emily to bear.
So, she couldn't speak kindly to Michael, seeing him only as the father of her child, nothing more.
"Are you at Abigail's place?" Michael asked next.
Emily didn't like how Michael always avoided the main topic, never getting to the point.
A man who kept dodging, what right did he have to do so?
"Do you need something?" Emily asked again.
There was silence on the other end of the line, followed by a deep breath, as if Michael
was gathering his courage.
"I want to talk to you."
Emily was about to respond when Michael quickly added, "I'm at Abigail's front door."
Michael was always like this, showing up unannounced.
Emily didn't understand why Michael did this. She had tried to give him advice many times, but their conversations always ended in arguments. Eventually, Emily got tired of wasting words on him.
After hanging up, Emily took a deep breath.
Michael was already at the door; she had no reason not to see him.
Emily quickly threw on a jacket, intending to go out, but then she remembered the oatmeal cooking in the kitchen.
It was for Abigail.
Seeing that Abigail was about to wake up, Emily reluctantly pursed her lips and decided to invite Michael inside.

Michael seemed surprised, almost flattered.
Seeing this, Emily quickly explained, "No other reason, I'm just cooking. You showed up uninvited, and I can't just leave the food unattended."
With that, Emily led Michael to the dining room.
Since he was already there, out of politeness, Emily asked, "Do you want something to drink?"
Michael glanced at the pot on the stove, which was steaming, and asked, "What's that?"
Emily followed his gaze and replied, "Oatmeal. Since you don't like it, I didn't plan to offer you any..."noveldrama
Before Emily could finish, Michael quickly responded, "I'll have a bowl."
Emily didn't know what Michael's intentions were, but seeing his non-aggressive demeanor, she let her guard down and nodded.
Then Emily handed Michael some bread and whole grains.
"Have a little something first. I'll serve the oatmeal when it's ready."
"Thank you, but I can do it myself. You don't have to trouble yourself," Michael said quickly.
He was being very polite, almost respectful, which left Emily puzzled about his intentions. Just as she was feeling confused, Michael suddenly asked.
"Are you and Archibald together?"
Hearing this, Emily's hand froze mid-air with the spoon.
The softness in her eyes vanished instantly, replaced by a hard, even cold, look.
She then sharply raised her gaze, her eyes like arrows, piercing straight at Michael.
What do you think?
