The Cherished Wife

Chapter 607

Chapter 607

J hovered by the car door, peering into the car like a detective on the trail.

Noelle had just settled into the seat and was straightening up, her fingers reaching for her phone to call Charles when a sudden shadow made her jump. She twisted around and came face-to-face with J's face, magnified and almost plastered against the window.Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.

Noelle's breath hitched, her heart pounding as she clutched her phone tighter. J's intense and unblinking eyes bore into hers through the glass. Noelle was petrified, forgetting that the window was tinted. Though she could see outside, J could not see inside.

Her heart was racing so fast it felt like it was about to jump out of her mouth. She gulped, convinced that J had spotted her. However, after an agonizing wait, J did not make a move. She just straightened up, leaned casually against the car, and started fiddling with her phone out of sheer boredom.

It was only then that Noelle let out a sigh of relief, remembering that J could not actually see inside. That meant J probably had no clue she was there.

With that thought, Noelle quickly messaged Charles on Messenger, telling him J was lurking in the garage and that she was clueless about what to do next.

Charles was about to head down in the elevator when he caught Noelle's message. His eyes narrowed with concern, and he shot back a quick reply telling her to hang tight because he was on his way.

Two minutes later, Charles stepped out of the elevator, his black coat slung over one arm and his car keys in the other hand. His gaze swept the area like a hawk, and there was J, standing by his car, oblivious to Noelle's hiding spot.

Charles was about to text Noelle for her exact location when his phone buzzed with her message, complete with a sad-face emoji. "I'm in the car. She has no idea."

Charles could not help but let out a wry smile at the emoji, shaking his head at Noelle's dramatics.

"Charles!"

J spotted Charles and, with a quick swipe on her phone to lock it, dashed over to him. She reached out, aiming to snag his arm in a friendly hold, but he sidestepped her grasp. "Hands off!" he snapped.

Her face froze for a second. "Charles, we're meant to be together, aren't we? I know you're not a fan of people invading your space, but I'm not just anybody."

Charles's brow creased in

annoyance. J's way of thinking

was, to put it mildly, unique. No matter how many times he had made it clear he was not going to marry her, she always seemed to bounce back, unfazed. He was too tired to deal with it. "What do you want, J?"

"I was hoping to catch a ride home with you. You haven't been home in ages, and Aunt's been missing you Plus, I didn't bring my car today, and the Hoffman place is miles away. Charles, could you be a dear and drop me off?"

"Are you broke or something?" Charles quipped.

J blinked, thrown off by his blunt question. She took a moment to gather her thoughts before replying awkwardly, "As if. The paycheck from Collosus Group is hefty, and Aunt tops it off with spending money." She hesitated, then asked, "Why are you asking about my finances?" Content

"If you've got cash, then hail a cab or rent a car for yourself. You seem to be rolling in it, so renting a Rolls-Royce should be no biggie. Heck, you could even have it chauffeur you to work and back every day!"

Charles had a sting in his words that most people never saw coming. However, those who hung around him knew all too well that when he lost his cool, his biting remarks showed no mercy.
