The Day Our Promise Breaks (Charles and Evelyn)

Chapter 218

"Charles..." Dahlia suddenly cried out, her voice full of pain.

She noticed Charles' injured arm and rushed towards him without a second thought for Evelyn, who might have been a threat. Her eyes were filled with worry. "You're hurt."

In her haste, she lost her balance. Charles, who had been holding Evelyn's wrist, let go and instinctively reached out to steady Dahlia. She ended up falling right into his arms.

Dahlia seemed oblivious to Evelyn standing behind her; her entire focus was on Charles' injury. Her eyes were misty as she called out, "Dr. Nelson, please check on Charles..."

It wasn't that Dahlia wasn't scared of Evelyn possibly harming her. She just deeply believed that nothing bad could happen to her with Charles by her side. She felt safe; worry was unnecessary.noveldrama

Evelyn's words got cut off by Dahlia's sudden interruption. Evelyn knew Dahlia's concern for Charles' arm was just an excuse; her real aim was to cut her off. But Evelyn didn't care much about that.

Evelyn was there for one reason: to settle the score for Charlie by taking Dahlia's life. Charles stopping her earlier had only added to her frustration. Now, with Dahlia presenting herself on a silver platter, Evelyn was done talking.

What did it matter if Charles knew the truth? Just like with Charlie's death, there was no proof. Speaking up only led to the same disbelief she faced each time she tried explaining Charlie's fate. Charles wouldn't believe her. He'd just think she was losing it.

Evelyn seized the moment, picked up the paring knife from the floor, and without hesitation, lunged at Dahlia again. Everything happened so fast.

Just as Charles caught Dahlia,

Evelyn's knife was back in play. His eyes widened, and he reacted quickly, grabbing Dahlia's wrist and pushing her away. In the rush, be misjudged his strength, causing Dahlia to crash into the coffee table. Her face contorted in pain.

Evelyn's attack missed again. Ignoring Charles, she turned without thinking and charged towards Dahlia, who was struggling to get up. Charles caught Evelyn's arm. "Evelyn, calm down!"

Did she realize she was on the brink of committing murder? "Charles, let me go!" Evelyn's gaze was locked on Dahlia, her voice fierce as she addressed Charles, her determination chilling.

His expression was stern. Seeing Evelyn's resolve, it was clear she wouldn't back down until she'd achieved her goal. Charles, noting her lack of control, exchanged a meaningful look with Dr. Nelson. Dr. Nelson, a long-time friend of the Jenkins family, understood immediately. He had his medical kit with him, ready for situations just like this. He quickly opened it, pulled out a sedative, and hurried over.

With Charles' help, they managed to subdue Evelyn. The syringe pierced her skin, the sedative taking effect quickly. Evelyn's struggles began to slow. Her vision blurred, her body Sed, and she collapsed into Charles' arms, the knife slipping from her fingers.

Before she closed her eyes, Evelyn's last look at Charles was filled with hatred. Charles held her with a conflicted expression. Since the misunderstanding with Evelyn first began, he'd promised her repeatedly he'd make things right for her and Charlie.

But she never believed him and

never wanted to talk things out. Every encounter ended badly. She left him ritated every time, but he never took it personally. He knew his neglect over the past five years was the foot cause, and Evelyn had every right to doubt his words.

So, he stopped trying to convince her with words and had Aiden make the necessary arrangements. If

only she'd held on for one more day, she'd have seen he wasn't just all talk.
