Chapter 372
Upon hearing the word "betrayal," Charles's eyes took on a deeper, more intense shade. He turned to Andrew, asking, "What did you just say?" His voice was steady and calm, yet it carried a weight that demanded attention.
Andrew met Charles's gaze, those deep, unreadable eyes that seemed to show no emotion. In that moment, Andrew felt a surge of regret. "N-nothing," he stammered, choosing to fall silent under Charles's commanding presence.
"Alright, Charles, I'm heading out," Andrew said, quickly making his way to his car. Meanwhile, Charles walked back to his own vehicle with a calm demeanor. Instead of getting in, he leaned casually against the side.
He pulled out a pack of cigarettes, expertly tapping one out and placing it between his lips. With a flick of his lighter, he took a slow drag, the smoke curling around him as Andrew's earlier words lingered in his mind. Andrew had hinted that his heart was no longer where it used to be.
He knew exactly what Andrew was getting at-suggesting he had feelings for Evelyn. Had he really fallen for her? Charles's hand instinctively reached for the locket at his waist, his gaze dropping as he gently rubbed it with his thumb. By the time he finished his cigarette, both his hand and mind were steady once more. He couldn't let his heart waver.noveldrama

Brooks drove Evelyn back to her place. When they arrived, he didn't unlock the doors right away but handed his phone to Evelyn. "Evelyn, Wesley got in touch with Dahlia."
Evelyn quickly took the phone and opened the surveillance footage from Brooks's house. Brooks had already lined it up, so when Evelyn hit play, she saw Wesley reaching out to Dahlia.
She watched as Wesley typed out a message: "Dahlia, I have evidence of you manipulating kidney donations and hiring a hit on John..." Reading that Wesley had proof of Dahlia hiring someone to kill John made Evelyn's eyes widen, her grip on the phone tightening.
A warm, reassuring hand covered her cold one, helping her steady her nerves. Evelyn took a deep breath, regaining her composure, and watched the footage continue.
In the video, Wesley paused, staring
at his screen, then slowly deleted the words "hiring a hit on John." The message he finally sent read: "Dahlia I have evidence of your manipulation with the donors and your conversations with John. I've recorded everything. If I show this to Charles, and he finds out you sabotaged the donor process, leading to his daughter's death, how do you think he'll react?"
The conversation didn't bring up the hiring again. Evelyn set the phone down, her mind racing. While Wesley's message didn't spill any solid evidence, it hinted at his possession of proof linking Dahlia to John's murder.
If they could get their hands on that evidence from Wesley, they could nail Dahlia and put her behind bars. But it was clear from his messages that Wesley still had lingering feelings for Dahlia. In this situation, he wouldn't just hand over the evidence.
Only if Wesley felt completely abandoned and out of options might he give up the evidence. As Evelyn mulled over this, a new alert popped up on Brooks's phone. She clicked it open, instinctively leaning closer to Brooks to let him see too. Their heads were almost touching.
Focused on the footage, Evelyn didn't notice the closeness between her and
Brooks, but Brooks did, a small smile tugging at his lips.
