Chapter 914
Drew nodded. "Got it. I'll head out with the team and confront the newcomer."
Dean warned again, "Listen up. We'll give him a warning today and deal with him tomorrow."
Drew hummed in acknowledgment and made his way to the third floor.
On the third floor, Matthew checked the time on his phone. Another 40 minutes had passed, but there were still no signs of Pierre showing up.
He felt like something was wrong and started getting up to ask around. Right as he stood up, he saw three security guards walk over and stand in his path.
Matthew noticed the three security guards looked pretty hostile. He frowned and asked, "What's wrong?"
Drew put his hand close to the baton attached to his belt. He locked eyes with Matthew and asked in an intimidating manner, "Who are you looking for?"
Matthew calmly replied, "I'm looking for Pierre."
Pierre? Drew froze for a moment, then it dawned on him-it was Monkey.
It turned out that Pierre's original name was Cleeve, but he changed his name to Pierre. Most of the new staff at the hospital in recent years knew him as Monkey.
Drew started to get more suspicious about Matthew and coldly asked, "What do you need from Monkey?"
Before Matthew could say anything, Drew had already assumed he was a reporter.
Matthew simply came up with a story. "He owes me a lot of money and hasn't paid me back. If he doesn't pay up soon, I'll sue him. Get him here now, or he's going to prison."
What? Did Pierre really owe Matthew money? Puzzled, Drew fixed his gaze on Matthew. "So, you're telling me Monkey owes you money? Did you come to get him to pay?
So, the newcomer wasn't a reporter working for the news or TV, huh? However, Drew still had his doubts.
Matthew nodded. "That's right. He wanted to build a residence, and I worked for him as a contractor. We made a deal, and he was supposed to pay up when the work was done.
"It's been quite long, and I still haven't gotten paid yet. This is really out of line."
Drew bought into most of it from the way Matthew told the story, but he still wanted to be sure. "How much does he owe you?"
Matthew held up four fingers at first, but then he thought better of it and went with three. "Three million dollars."
A whopping three million dollars?
Drew gape with his eyes wide open. "Does Monkey seriously owe you three million dollars? You're not messing with me, are you?"noveldrama
Pierre was the kind of guy who didn't seem like he had any money at all. Who in their right mind would trust him with three million dollars?
Drew's suspicion started creeping in again.
Matthew nonchalantly explained, "He teamed up with three of his neighbors to build a building. It has 24 floors, with four units on each floor. So, each of them gets one unit.
"The cost for each family was three million dollars. Everyone else paid, but he's the one who's refusing to pay. Now he's nowhere to be found."
Upon hearing 24 floors, Drew had many things pop up in his mind. He remembered Monkey was from Kirkshire, where there were plenty of 24-story buildings.
He heard that most of the buildings there shared the same blueprint. With all the high-rise buildings in Kirkshire, the cost to tear them down was just too much for the developers to bother with.
Thinking about this, Drew became convinced that Monkey really did owe that
much. He quickly changed his plans on the spot.
"You're looking for Monkey, right? Stay here. I'll find him."
Matthew flashed a smile at Drew. "Appreciate it. Thanks for helping out."
His story was a mix of truth and lies. It was indeed a 24-story building. But
whether Pierre owed any money, who could tell for sure?
Upon seeing the security guards leave, Matthew returned to his seat.
Drew went back to the security room and filled Dean in about Monkey's debt.
After listening to the whole story,
Dean breathed a sigh of relief. "Turns out it was nothing to worry
about. If I'd known, I wouldn't have
made such a big deal of it. Just take Monkey to him, you two."
Drew was a little concerned. "We just beat up Monkey, and he's hurt. Is it okay to hand him over?"
Dean nonchalantly remarked, "Monkey's been hurt all year long. Are you still not used to it?"
Drew thought about it and chuckled. "That's true. I'll release Monkey now."
...
Ten minutes later, the elevator doors opened. Pierre limped out of the elevator, wincing with pain from his injuries as he walked.
At the same time, Pierre was also confused. Usually, after taking a beating, he would be locked up for a week.
They let him out way too fast this time. Something was fishy about it.
What do you think?
