The Night I Let Go

Chapter 29

At the chairman's office in Jennings Corporation, Harold, who had originally stepped back from daily operations, had recently returned to working a full nine- to-five schedule due to the company's current conditions.

Not long after he arrived at the office, his daughter, Wendy, came looking for him.

Wendy recounted everything Ethan had said the previous day. As expected, Harold rejected the idea without a second thought.

"Are you out of your mind? Do you even realize what you're suggesting? You're letting a fox into the henhouse!"

Harold's anger was palpable. "We've fought so hard to achieve Jennings Corporation's current success. Can't you see the seriousness of our problems now? Do you want to see the company collapse? Is that when you'll stop?"

"Dad, you're well aware of Jennings Corporation's current situation. If we want to break out of this and continue growing, we must rely on external forces!

"Besides, Ethan clearly stated that he has full authority to act on his uncle's behalf. Even if we sell off some shares, our family will still run Jennings Corporation!" Wendy tried to convince Harold.

She continued, "Although we might lose some control, we'll gain a powerful ally in return. Jennings Corporation could even expand into Celesea City! Dad, you taught me that risk and opportunity go hand in hand."

Harold remained silent. He was tempted, but he didn't dare to take the risk.

As the head of the company, his decisions would impact the company's future and direction. One wrong move could bury the entire Jennings Corporation.

After a long silence, Harold closed his eyes and waved his hand. "I'll think about it. If there's nothing else, you can leave now."

Wendy understood that Harold needed time to make this decision. She didn't push him but quietly left the office.

On her way back to her own office, she bumped into Ethan, who was heading to the pantry.

"Wendy, did your dad agree?" Ethan asked.

"Not yet, but I believe he will," Wendy responded with certainty.

She knew her father well. Although he didn't want outsiders involved in the company, he wouldn't want it to decline.noveldrama

In its current state, Jennings Corporation needed outside support to break through and keep growing.

Ethan nodded. "Wendy, I'll smooth things over with my uncle. But you need to push harder, or I'm worried my uncle will lose patience."

"Thanks, Ethan!" Wendy replied with a smile.

When she felt most helpless, Ethan was the only person who always stayed by her side to help. This touched her deeply.

Suddenly, she recalled the invitation to the college class reunion that her class representative had sent out a couple of days ago. Initially, she had planned to ask Zachary to be her plus one, but she had changed her mind.

"Ethan, I have a class reunion tomorrow. Would you like to come with me?"

"Of course. I'd love to! If you're the one asking, I'd go to hell and back for you, let alone a class reunion!"

"If you want to go to hell and back, do it yourself! I'm not going," Wendy teased.

As her mood lifted, she rolled her eyes playfully at Ethan and smiled.

Ethan smiled but then changed the conversation's topic. "Wendy, we're close enough for me to be blunt. Zachary doesn't deserve you. Since he wants a divorce, why don't you just agree to it?

"Are you still not over him? As far as I know, he has spent the last five years caving at home. He doesn't

even care about you. You have no

reason to waste your life on

someone like that."

Upon hearing this, Wendy's smile faded.

Wendy had never considered divorcing Zachary, even though he hadn't been much help to her career over the past five years.

After all, five years was a long time. Even if their relationship had started on a whim, they had lived as a married couple for those five years and developed some degree of affection.

Therefore, she couldn't bear to divorce Zachary.

But most importantly, given the dire situation she was currently in, divorcing him felt too much like giving up.
