Chapter 7: There is no such thing as love
Bewildered, Alexandra gawks at him, never did she have expected him to jump right into it, even though she was aware she would have to tell him who Adam was since they were getting married. Alexandra didn't think it was relevant to talk about a man who meant nothing to her.
"Who?" Alexandra asks, feigning ignorance.
There was no way she was going to talk about Adams with him at that moment. Adams was her past and she wanted him to remain there until she gives him a taste of his own medicine.
"The man earlier"
"His name is Adam"
"Do you love him"
"What makes you think that I do?"
"I'm not thinking anything, just curious"
"Why?"
"I saw the way he looked at you. The anger in his eyes when you told him, I'm your mate"
Alexandra frowns. "Don't bother yourself with him"
"I'm not. I'm worried about you"noveldrama
"You're worried about me" she states, uncertain.
"Your feelings. I'm worried about your feelings so that's why I'm asking if you love him"
Alexandra smiles but it didn't reach her eyes, love was a wicked word for naive little girls and she was no longer that girl. The invisible marks it had left on her body had made her cold, turning her heart to stone with her mind craving for nothing but revenge against the people who ruined her life.
Dropping her gaze at him, she stares at the river, jealous over the calm river, a lot of things of run-through her mind.
"Love is a word for naive little girls"
"Don't you believe in it?"
Glancing over at him, Alexandra wonders what was running through his mind.
"Do you?"
"What do you think?"
"I don't know Nathaniel"
"So do you love him?"
Feeling a rush of anger as old memories jump into her mind, Alexandra molds her fist tightly, the mere thought of Adam infuriates her and she doesn't need to hide her hatred towards him.
She gave him her heart and he ripped it apart without blinking an eye, shattering the little dream she had about love.
"Is there such thing as love?" She states with spite
Observing her intently, Nathaniel could see the hate running in her eyes, without a doubt that he must have poked a delicate part of her life, blinking his eyes, pushing off the urge to ask another question.
"You don't have to answer if you don't feel comfortable"
Locking eyes with him, Alexandra stares deep into his eyes, her face cold and unblinking. "I don't love him"
Nathaniel gulps down the lump in his throat. Without uttering a word, attempts to walk away but Alexandra holds his eyes.
"You're leaving?"
"Yes"
"Do you have an appointment?"
"That depends, why?" He
"Nothing" she loosens her grip causing Nathaniel to chuckle, he could tell what
was running through her mind.
"Okay then, see you, Alexandra"
Alexandra nods affirmatively, staring at him as he turns to depart.
She shoots sharply. "Come with me"
Bewildered, Nathaniel looks at her.
"Come with me"
Nathaniel chuckles. "What do you want Alexandra? You know you have to tell me what you want"
"Come home with me" she states
"Why?"
Alexandra rolls her eyes. "Fine, forget it" she attempts to walk away but Nathaniel holds her arm, gazing into her eyes and she gazes back.
"Why?" He whispers
"Nothing, I just thought since we are getting married, you should... no... I mean we should tell them you are my mate or are you not?"
"Of course I am"
"Then let's do it"
Nathaniel nods affirmatively. "Take me to your house, is only right that I meet your family" Nathaniel gestures and Alexandra takes the lead, walking through the furrowed oak trees, silence fills the air.
Staring at her, while trailing behind, Nathaniel couldn't help but wonder what was going through her head. Lost in thoughts, Nathaniel didn't realize they were standing outside the building till he collided with her, nearly knocking her down.
"I'm sorry"
"What are you thinking?" She whispers
"Sorry, my mind was somewhere else, hadn't noticed you'd stopped walking"
Curiously, she asks. "Where was your mind wandering off to?"
Nathaniel chuckles. "You don't want to know"
Alexandra lifts her brow, daring. "Try me"
"To you. My mind was wandering off to you"
"What?" Alexandra widened her eyes
"Don't overthink this, you were walking so lifeless, I was wondering what was running through your head. You seem to be like that kind of girl"
"What kind of girls?"
"Those who love to go down memory lane whenever they are alone" He averts his eyes to the old building. "Is this your place?"
"Yes," she states, leading the way while Nathaniel trails behind, glancing around and staring at the flowers decorating the pathway, the scents linger in his nose causing him to halt and Alexandra stops, staring at him.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing. Did you grow this?"
"Don't you like followers
"Flowers are good for the home, let's go"
Observing him, Alexandra opens her mouth to say something but on a second thought, pushes it aside, turning forward towards the door, and begins to make slow yet calculated steps. The thumping beat of her heart pounding gently with every step she takes towards the door.
Nathaniel strolls behind, his face cold and void of emotions as he reaches the entrance door. Alexandra glances back at him and he gazes back, staring into his eyes.
"Is anything wrong?" He asks
"No"
"Why are we stopping then?"
"Who said we are stopping?"
Nathaniel chuckles, unbelievably. "What are we doing then? Open the door or perhaps have you had a change of mind?"
"Of course not. Why would I back out like a chicken all of a sudden when we agreed to tell everyone that you are my mate. ? would never chicken out, never!" She states firmly.
"You are a determined girl"
Alexandra smiles, ridiculously. "I'm a woman. If I was a girl, we wouldn't be planning a marriage, would we?"
"Yea sure" he glances at the door. "Are you going to stand there gawking or are you going to knock?"
Dropping her gaze on him, she averts her eyes to the entrance door and tightens her fist, knocking slowly yet firmly, aware of what lies behind closed doors, Alexandra darkens her eyes, her face cold and void of emotions
What do you think?
