Chapter 811
"At the time, Hendrix actually had no reason to target you and Mr. Swift," Noelle said.
Marla froze for a moment. "W-what?"
"Isn't that true?" Noelle looked at her with genuine confusion in her eyes. "The only reason Hendrix dragged you and Mr. Swift into this was because you helped Dylan."
"If you truly wanted me to live well, as you claim, you would never have let him take me away like that. That's why Hendrix came after you. And when you realized I was still alive, this was the outcome."noveldrama
Marla had no rebuttal.
"I already found out about what happened to Seline, and I'm grateful she saved Rosie. If possible, I'd gladly take her place in caring for you both. But ultimately, Rosie and I owe Seline, not you or Mr. Swift. In fact, the connection is faint at best.
"The moment you became Dylan's accomplice, whatever shred of obligation I owed toward you and Mr. Swift was paid in full. As for your current situation, I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do."
Marla had arrived brimming with confidence. Even standing before Noelle, she had carried herself with superiority because Noelle owed them. At least, that was what she had thought. Yet now, every word from Noelle's mouth left her unable to come up with a retort.
So, why hadn't she stopped Dylan back then? Was it really just because she trusted him? Deep down, she knew that wasn't the only reason.
She still hated Noelle for what happened to Seline. As a mother, she could never truly move past her daughter's death. Even though she told Noelle she had forgiven her, there was no way she didn't harbor even the slightest resentment in the dead of night.
Marla had even regretted it-why. hadn't Noelle stayed true to her word? Noelle had told her that she would repay Seline with her life. And in that moment, the darker thoughts in Marla's mind had won.
That was why she didn't oppose what Dylan did. She had even thought how wonderful it would be if Noelle could disappear from this world. That way, Seline wouldn't be alone.
But in the end, Noelle didn't die.
Now, she stood calmly before Marla, exposing the darkness in her heart. Then, she plainly told her that she had no right to claim the debt Noelle owed Seline.
"Is there anything else?" Noelle asked.
Marla could no longer speak.
"If not, please leave." Only then did Noelle glance at the household staff beside her.
The household staff snapped back to attention and stepped forward, ready to escort Marla out.
But Marla suddenly shoved them aside. Then, in two strides, she closed the distance and seized Noelle's wrist.
"I-I know what happened last time was my fault, Marla forced out the words through gritted teeth. "But you can't deny the fact that we had been nice to you before. Is it really fair to dismiss all that because of this one thing?
"I'm not asking for much. I just want Hendrix to spare me and my husband.
Please? Just take it as me begging you."
What do you think?
