Chapter 49
Chapter 49
“Sir here is your laptop.” A kinder looking officer said giving us the laptop. I looked at it not believing I
got it but at the same time not wanting to take it. That laptop may or may not reveal more secrets but
the fact that this laptop was with them during the accident makes this situation even harder for me to
control my tears. This may have something that caused their deaths or else why would a powerful
company like BlackJack try to hide this from us.
I suddenly felt a hand on my back making me jump. “Hey whats wrong. Why are you not taking the
laptop?” asked Ry. I looked at him with my teary eyes and looked away before they made out of my
eyes. I closed my eyes trying to suppress them but failing to do so. I caught onto his coat and hid my
face so as to not let anyone see my teary face.
Amanda comes near me and pats my hair. “Kat uncle Damien wanted you to have this otherwise he
wouldn’t have gone through the trouble of writing us the letters. You wouldn’t have gone through the
trouble of finding Ryder if not for this. Though we have our differences both Ryder and I are there for
you. You wanted to know who was the reason behind their deaths. Take it and lets get this over with
once and for all.”
I looked up and wiped my tears realising what I came here for. I took the laptop from the officer’s hands
with my shaky ones.
“Sir it was a good choice that you made the mayor contact that vile officer. No one else would have
made him change his mind. He has become a proud cruel man after having some big people back him
up.” He leaned towards us whispering, “I think it is better if you leave now before he makes up some
case to put you in prison.”
We left the station after thanking him.
“It really is no wonder a cruel cold CEO like you has some dirty secrets on people to blackmail them to
help you.” Said Mandy scoffing at him.
Before I could say anything, Ry interrupted me. “It is much better to have dirty secrets on people you
don’t know for one’s benefit than going behind your best friend’s back and hiding big secrets from her.”
Ry replied with a cold smirk which widens seeing Mandy’s face fell.
“Stop it both of you right now. You are not kids anymore behave as a grown up. Now Mandy you can Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
come to our home to open the laptop along with Ry and me. I know this is equally important to you like
me.” I said to Mandy and dragged Ry with me to his car before he protested.
“I don’t think that was a good idea.” Ry says as soon as we got in the car after keeping the lap in the
trunk of the car.
“I know what I am doing.” I said to which Ry shook his head.
“Speaking about friends, how did you know mayor so close for him to get the evidence of a closed
case. In normal case it requires more than just a phone call to get the mayor’s help.” I asked. He
smirked and turned completely towards me.
“Do you really want to know?”
“Not really I was so out of my mind to ask. Of course I want to know.”
“What is in it for me? You know I don’t do things for free.”
I looked at him with a deadpanned look. He sighed playfully.
“Since it is you I will consider an exception.”
“Oh, you don’t have to be so kind to open your mouth to tell me who he is to you. You can keep it
locked in that stupid narcissistic head of yours.” I turned away from him to look at the windows. He
pulled me onto his lap making me straddling him. I looked back to see Ry already had put up the
barrier.
“Don’t be upset now I was just kidding. He is my college friend. He was there for me even in my dark
times. I owe that idiot a lot now already. He is now begging me to show him the person who has broken
my icy appearance.” He chuckled kissing the top of my head.
“Sure one day I will see him and tell him how this stupid man was a sweet gentle boy at first.”
“No don’t do that and ruin my reputation of being a cold man.”
I smiled at him and put my head on his chest wrapping my arms around his torso and sighed.
“Hey what is it?”
“Nothing.”
“No something is bothering you.”
“Yes, something is bothering me. But it has not entered my mind now it was there for a long time.”
“Tell me.”
“It’s the thought of how happy we would have been if both our parents were here.” I said and tightened
my hold on him. He hummed playing my hair.
“They would have been behind us now telling us to get married and give them a grandchild.” I smiled
sadly at the thought. He said nothing but continued playing with my hair.
“We wouldn’t have been here begging an officer, nor would we have been thinking to why a powerful
company is being an obstacle in our path. Speaking of which,” I sat straight on his lap to look at him.
“Why did you say BlackJack Co. must have been involved because of you? Is it related to your growth
in the business field being a threat for them? But that is no way related to our case-”
Interrupting my babbling he said, “It is because they are the reason behind my parents’ death.”
“WHAT???”
