Chapter 34 She was Suffering More
Chapter 34 She was Suffering More
Stanley looked at her for a while, before he sighed, "Forget it, you already know enough, I don't think it
makes a difference if you know this as well."
He said, and paused for a while, "You know before your father died, Hamish went to see him?"
When Isobel heard that, her face went pale, "How did you know?"
"It was a coincidence, some of my people went by there, and you know that Hamish's car is easy to
identify, so they saw it immediately."
Stanley said, and looked at her with squinted eyes, "Your father has been paralyzed for so many years,
why would he suddenly die? I don't think I need to tell you more, you can figure out yourself who did
that."
Isobel didn't answer to that, she didn't know what she could even say.
That day, the nurse went out to buy some groceries, and when she got back, her father had already
died. When Isobel got the phone call and rushed to the house, her father was already cold.
Thomas had been chained to the bed for so many years, he couldn't speak, neither could he move, he
just laid on the bed like a dead person for ten years.
Sometimes Isobel would think that it wasn't too bad he died, at least he won't be in pain anymore.
But that day, when she knew that he died, she suffered a lot.
Thomas had always loved her, before the accident happened, he had promised her that if she did good
on her finals, he would take her to Beijing to see the snow.
She never thought that within one night, everything changed.
Her family was destroyed, and to pay the debts, they had finished all of their savings, even their house
had to be sold.
But even in that situation, Amanda and Isobel were positive, they always felt that Thomas would
recover, always...
And then, for some reason Amanda got addicted to gambling, they were deep in debts, and to pay all
that back, she had to take multiple jobs, working 18 hours a day.
She always thought that meeting Hamish was a fortune for her, she never thought, that this was all his
plan.
He was the reason to cause her family to break, for her to have no home.
Isoble had never suffered so much before, it felt as if someone ripped open her wounds, and sprinkled
salt in it.
It was really quiet in the room, neither her nor Stanley spoke a word.
After a long time, she wiped off the tears on her face, "Thank you, Mister Shaw, I got something else to
do, I will leave now."
"Let me escort you."
"No, thank you."
As she spoke, she ran into the couch.
Stanley walked over to support her, "Don't pretend to be strong, as a girl you are allowed to be weak."
Isobel didn't speak, but she also didn't deny, and allowed Stanley to walk her out.
The two of them ran into Hamish and Freddie in the elevator, Stanley raised his brow, and looked at
Hamish, "What a coincidence, Mister Francis."
Hamish threw a look at him, then, his gaze landed on Isobel's face, and when he saw her red eyes, his
brows knitted, his eyes darkened.
Freddie saw Isobel, and was startled, he asked her, "Isobel, are you alright?"
Then he looked at Hamish next to him, whose eyes were showing uncountable emotions, but mainly, it
was pain.
She didn't say anything, and only stared at him, her red eyes were tearing up, and then, the tears
finally ran down her cheeks, and dripped down at her chin.
Freddie's heart skipped a beat, he wanted to ask her more, but in that moment, the elevator door
opened, and Stanley walked Isobel out.
They watched the two of them walk away, and Freddie turned to Hamish to say, "She seems as if she
is suffering."
When Hamish heard him say that, he knitted his brows, but the next second, he said, "That's none of
my business."
When he said that, he left the elevator.
Freddie paused for a little, then he caught himself again, and snorted, "Alrighty, Mister Francis is a
coldblooded animal, I should feel ashamed of my inferiority."
Stanley opened the door to his car, when Isobel passed out.
He cursed to himself, and reached out to catch her and lay her down in the car.
Under the streetlights, her face already looked abnormally red.
Stanley felt her forehead and noticed that her fever had risen.
He cursed again, and quickly drove her to the hospital.
In the evenings, the emergency room was always crowded, it took them a while before it was their turn
to see the doctor.
When Isobel got her injection needle, she moaned, so that Stanley thought she was waking up, but as
he waited, she only fell back asleep again.
He couldn't help but worry about her, and asked, "Nurse, is she alright?"
"She's fine, just high fever, that's it."
"But why did she pass out?"
"She was probably too tired."
"Tired?"
Stanley sighed, and sat back in his chair next to Isobel's bed, suddenly he started remembering the old
times.
He actually fell for her a long time ago, when the incident happened in her family, she went for a job at
a restaurant at night in her summer vacations.
He wasn't as delightful back then, and for entertainment he would go out for some night snacks with his
friends, and brag about life.
She was young and pretty, and in the mess of the nightly barbecue time, she always had everyone's
attention on her. In those two months, a lot of the drunk men tried to take advantage of her.
In the beginning, he thought she was easy to mess with, and wanted to help her out, being the hero,
then she would fall in love with him, and marry him, and everything would be wonderful.
But before he even got the chance to step up, Isobel took a empty beer bottle, and smashed it on the
table, saying in a really cold voice, "I dare you to touch me."
The men didn't think that she would be so fierce, so they just left, while mumbling some dirty words.
In that moment, he knew that she was not a normal girl, being so young and so daring.
Later he found out that she was a student of Provincial Experimental High School, he heard that she
was a good student, always top of her class.
He wanted to get her at that time, but his mates told him, "If you really like her, I think you should leave
her alone, do you know the level of Provincial Experimental High School?"
He didn't know, he only finished his middle school, how could he know.
When his friend heard his answer, he laughed and said, "See, I told you you need to study more, but
you didn't care. These kids go off to the top universities. You only finished your middle school, what do
you think you would be chatting about? How many gangsters are on which street?"
He never knew what self abasement was, he just knew that Isobel had a good future, and he shouldn't
stand in her way.
Then, Isobel really had one of the best finals in the province. When he heard those news, he was
relieved that he didn't decide to disturb her.
But Isobel didn't go to Tsinghua University neither did she go to Peking University, she stayed in the city
and attended the local University of Science and Technology.
They all told her that she was stupid, but Stanley knew that the reason she didn't take her chances to
have a bright future but to stay in City N was because of her paralyzed father.
Five years ago when he started his business, he grew it bigger and bigger, and with time, he became
today's Mister Shaw.
At that time, women were surrounding him, but the only one he thought about was Isobel. Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.
He wanted to wait until she was done with college before he would approach her, by then he would
have money and power, he didn't have the education, but he had an honest heart.
Who knew, before he even had a chance, she already fell into Hamish's trap.
In the past three years, he had warned her, but Isobel always thought that he wasn't helping her, most
of the time she didn't even listen to what he was saying.
Today, Stanley was even gloating over the result.
But as he was done gloating, he looked at how Isobel had changed, and started feeling pain.
While looking at the pale faced girl on the bed, he felt capricious, just as he was about to lean over and
kiss her, the door to her ward was opened, "I didn't know Mister Shaw would also take advantage of a
helpless girl."
