What Separates Me and You

Chapter 274 The Cold-Blooded Devil

The bodyguard immediately snapped out of his trance and nodded again. Then, he aimed it at Jack’s middle finger and attempted to slice it off.

“Stop it!”

Quintin’s hysterical voice boomed from the entrance. He rushed into the warehouse, almost tripping over his own feet as he ran. At the same time, he screamed, “Stop that, Lewis!”

Unfortunately, he was too late. The bodyguard had already struck by then, resulting in Jack’s middle finger getting sliced off.

This time, Jack didn’t shriek at the top of his lungs anymore. His eyes remained shut the whole time. The moment the dagger made contact with his finger, all he did was scrunch his face. together while letting out a pained groan.

Quintin felt his knees going weak as he collapsed to the ground upon witnessing the gory

scene.

“Jack!”

He lay on the ground while staring at Jack unblinkingly. Fresh tears rolled down his cheeks as he called out his friend’s name over and over again in a hoarse tone.

His name was squeezed out of his throat with so much difficulty that one might think he was choking on something. Quintin started crawling toward Jack with his fingers latched onto the floor tightly.

The moment he reached Jack, he could only stare at his severed fingers with trembling lips and an ashen complexion.

Quintin then started tearing patches of fabric from his own shirt so that he could bandage Jack’s wounds, deciding to ignore Lewis’ presence for once.

“Jack, I’m sorry I came late…” the man muttered while wrapping the fabric around the severed edges of Jack’s fingers. He sounded like he was about to cry again. “Hang in there, Jack!

Lewis continued to sit on his chair calmly as though he was an emotionless and merciless grim reaper. He kept staring at Quintin the entire time.

Josephine finally entered the warehouse at that time. Shock and daze were written all over her face when she spotted the blood-stained floor and an unconscious Jack.

She could only stand at the entrance in a shell-shocked state. A moment later, she finally forced herself to turn her attention to the man sitting on the chair.

He just sat there as though he had nothing to do with everything that had just happened.

Lewis seemed to have sensed Josephine’s gaze, prompting him to turn and look at her.

Both of them locked eyes, and for a fleeting moment, the world around them fell into an eerie silence as time continued to pass by unnoticed.

Josephine gripped the doorframe tightly, her knuckles already turning white from the force. Her body trembled lightly as well.

Lewis didn’t react at all, even when Josephine was staring at him. There were no traces of guilt and shame on his face even though he was the one who did such an awful thing.

After Quintin was done bandaging the blunt edges haphazardly, he raised his head to glare at Lewis with reddened eyes.

Hatred and rage, which couldn’t be described with mere words, filled his eyes. At that moment, Quintin looked like he was about to rush forward and skin Lewis alive.

“How could you be so cruel, Lewis!” Quintin’s voice was trembling violently, perhaps out of rage or sorrow. “Jack’s only 19 years old! How could you do this to him!”

Lewis just looked down from his seat. “You’ll have to ask yourself that question, Mr. Quintin. You should have thought about the consequences the moment you decided to make an enemy out of me. It’s a shame that you don’t understand the hefty price of your mistakes due to your arrogance.”

Then, he stood up from his chair and walked toward Quintin slowly. “I thought you’d at least learn a lesson from those mongrels’ deaths. It turns out that I overestimated your intelligence.

Quintin’s eyes slowly went wide. His shoulders trembled even more as he gritted out, “What did you just say?”

Lewis tilted his head slightly while gazing down at Quintin, and his lips curled into a small. smirk. “It seems that your memory isn’t the only thing that’s bad. Even your hearing is impaired.”

“You are the one behind that incident!”

Flashes of the dogs’ brutal deaths replayed in Quintin’s mind, intensifying the redness of his eyes. “Did you convince my dad to kill them?”

Even though that question was filled with rage, Lewis wasn’t affected by it at all.

“That’s not important. Now that you’re back, it’s time for me to settle the score.”

Lewis turned his head to glance at Josephine as he spoke. It was just a fleeting glance, seeing as he turned back to face Quintin soon enough.

The latter clenched his fists tightly while asking hoarsely, “You can do whatever you want, but before that, can you let me take Jack to the hospital?”

Lewis chuckled in response. “Are you negotiating with me?”

Stunned, Quintin didn’t know what to say.

It was true that he didn’t have the right to negotiate with Lewis at a time like this.

He bowed his head to look at Jack, who was dying in his arms. At the same time, his fingers tightened around his friend’s form as a look of conflict flashed across his face.

About a dozen seconds later, Quintin finally closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He seemed to have made up his mind about something important. Then, he said to Lewis, “I’m begging you, please let me take Jack to the hospital.”

“This isn’t how you should plead for help. Didn’t anyone teach you proper manners, Mr. Quintin?”

Quintin looked surprised for a moment. Then, he widened his eyes and glared at Lewis.

Meanwhile, the latter continued to tilt his head with his lips curled into the slightest smirk. It was his way of showing his disdain and spite in front of Quintin.

The latter’s tricks and schemes were just child’s play to Lewis.

Jack, curled up in Quintin’s arms, continued to tremble. The hand that clutched his gradually became colder as time passed.

He couldn’t bear to waste any time at this rate.

It was true that Quintin was unable to compete with Lewis in terms of power and the situation he was in right now. He lacked the ability to even fight back or assert himself in any meaningful way.

There was no way he would abandon Jack, seeing as the latter had gotten hurt and tortured because of him. His pride was nothing in front of Jack’s precious life.

Quintin knew that he would have to offer his life to Lewis if that was what he wanted.

He couldn’t give up on Jack, no matter what.

A vein bulged on Quintin’s forehead as he lowered his head and tightly clenched his fists. After a moment, he gradually released his grip.

A long time later, the man finally put Jack down while doing his best to suppress the immense humiliation which threatened to engulf him. Then, he stood up with his chest puffed before slowly sinking to his knees and prostrating in front of Lewis.

Josephine’s eyes became the size of dinner plates the moment she witnessed that scene.

It was Quintin’s first time prostrating in front of someone in 25 years.

He never prostrated when he was fighting with Damian, but he decided to do that for Jack’s

sake.

The pride and arrogance that fueled Quintin over the past 25 years were grounded to dust mercilessly at that moment, thanks to that humiliating position.

Lewis was able to force Quintin into revealing his most humiliating and wretched side right in front of Josephine. From now on, he would never be able to remain confident in her presence.

“Please, Lewis. I’m begging you right now. Please let me take Jack to the hospital.”

The aforementioned man just looked down at the man prostrating at his feet. A soft chuckle bubbled from his lips. “I thought you were filled with resolve.” Content is © by NôvelDrama.Org.

Quintin gritted his teeth, his knuckles cracking quietly due to the excessive force he used to ball his fists up.

A while later, he finally raised his head and glared at Lewis. “So, can I take him to the hospital now?”

“What makes you think I’ll definitely say yes to you if you beg me in the first place?”

Quintin was stunned for a moment. Rage filled his eyes immediately afterward as he shot to his feet. “You’re just toying around with me!”

He wanted nothing more than to pounce at Lewis on the spot, but he ended up getting detained by two bodyguards from behind.

Quintin got pinned onto the ground as a result. He couldn’t move at all, thanks to the bodyguard, and he could feel his cheek getting plastered onto the cold ground. The man struggled with all his might while roaring and cursing at Lewis.

“Lewis, you crazy bastard! I hope you die a terrible death! If anything happens to Jack, I will never let you go, even if this means I’ll have to die in the process! You really are a fool, aren’t you? You can’t bear to let Josephine go despite having divorced her! That’s because you can’t bear to see other people living happily ever after, right? Can someone like you even experience joy? Since you’ve committed such a sin, I bet you’re destined never to be able to feel joy for the rest of your life! You’re a cold-blooded, merciless devil! Hell isn’t even enough to contain someone like you! You will never be happy for the rest of your life! Lewis Alvarez, you- Lewis coldly interrupted before Quintin could finish cursing at him. “Cut off his tongue.”
