Chapter 1306
Pearl blinked and remained silent. She decided to change the topic because the conversation was becoming uncomfortable. "Why don't we go downstairs?"Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
Sean agreed with a nod. "Okay, let's head down."
Together, they walked down the stairs where they saw Richard, who looked gloomy.
"Rick, have you been waiting long?"
Richard sighed deeply, a sad look in his eyes. "No, I'm just worried you might feel sick or tired since you're pregnant."
It seemed like Richard was trying to make sure everyone knew about Pearl's pregnancy.
Pearl knew what he was doing and decided not to confront him about it, understanding he was feeling jealous." It's fine. I just wandered around upstairs. I wasn't too tired."
Sean looked shocked. "You're pregnant?"
Pearl gently touched her belly, glowing with the joy of an expectant mother. "That's right."
"Yeah, so when are you getting married?" Richard asked, testing Sean's reaction.
Sean shrugged. "I'm not thinking about marriage right now. Besides, I have Chet. That makes me less eager to marry. What if I end up with someone who doesn't treat Chet well?"
Pearl considered this. "It seems like you do care for Chet and think of him as your own son."
Sean raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean? He is my son."
Richard felt moved by Sean's declaration. "Sean.... it must have been tough for you to take that on for me."
Sean scoffed. "I look after your son. Don't you think you should give me some shares of your company for that?" Richard's expression changed. "No way."
Sean clicked his tongue. "You're so harsh. I did you such a big favor, and you can't even spare some shares. You're stingy."
Just then, they heard the sound of breaking glass from upstairs.
All three turned to see Chester standing there, looking confused. It seemed he couldn't handle what he had just heard.
Chester had wanted to come out and apologize to Sean. He had given away something of Sean's to someone else, letting them in on Sean's secret. He knew he had crossed a line.
But he hadn't expected to overhear such a startling revelation. It turned out... he wasn't Sean's son after all.
He was Richard's son.
No wonder Sean never felt like a father to him. No wonder Pearl always had that strange look when she saw him. No wonder Richard had been secretly visiting him.
Even though Chester was young, he understood what was going on. His mother was someone else, which was why Richard refused to acknowledge him as his son.
He stood there, stunned and feeling lost.
