Living With My Lady Boss

Chapter 2270

The woman wiped her tears away, looking at Wilbur remorsefully. "I hope you won't blame me. I used to be able to control the good and evil thoughts on this planet in the past, but now many cultivators have started reaching out to different dimensions after reaching a certain level with their cultivation. Lots of evil thoughts have been brought into this world, and thus I cannot control even my own thoughts. I hope you don't fault me for that."

The woman got onto her knees again, but Wilbur scrambled to help her back up. "Please don't say that. I know how hard you've had it, and I don't blame you."

"I actually have something else to ask from you. Since the Light Gloves have appeared, that means that the world of light has not given up on this world yet. I hope you can use your Light Gloves to rid this world of all its evil thoughts so that light may return to it," the woman pleaded.

Wilbur could sense the woman's sincerity and a lump grew in his throat. "Don't worry. I'll do my best to maintain the balance in this world as long as I'm around."

"Thank you. Well, my wish has been granted. Congratulations. You've passed Senior Fremont's test. This third piece of the ninth dragon cauldron is yours."

The woman chanted a spell, and the air flashed with golden light before the dragon cauldron fragment appeared. It turned slowly under the enchantment of the formation, and Wilbur glanced at it before saying, "There's a question I'd like to ask you that I hope you'll answer."

"Go ahead. I'll tell you as long as I know the answer."

Wilbur asked, "Is this dragon cauldron fragment the core of the main formation?" "Yes, it is."noveldrama

"What will happen if the main formation loses the fragment, then?"

"The formation disappears. Everything goes back to normal," she answered.

Wilbur frowned. "Back to normal? What does that mean?"

The woman paused for a moment, then said, "That's nothing you need to be concerned over, kid. What you should do is just leave with the dragon cauldron fragment."

"No. I'd like to know the answer. Please tell me the truth."

The woman seemed to hesitate for a few seconds, but eventually said, "Fine, since you insisted. The main formation will disappear after the dragon cauldron fragment is taken away, and so will Wrecknam's underground water source. The river beneath the city will return to the way it was. Wrecknam will then face a severe water shortage, and its inhabitants will be affected by it. The wealthy will be able to leave, but the poor will end up dying here. Wrecknam will pay for its arrogance. No desert city has ever been completely sealed off like this. Wrecknam has no roads leading out to the rest of the world. It's a city destined to disappear eventually. Without the support of the underground river, this place will eventually become a ghost town."

"What?"

Wilbur stared at the woman, unable to accept that to be the consequence. The woman merely nodded.

"But... Senior Fremont set up this test. He should have considered the livelihood of the people living here, no? Why would he do this? How am I supposed to choose?"

"You're not doing anything wrong here, kid. The world's a cruel place. One man's loss is another's gain. You were chosen by the dragon cauldrons, and you're not taking them by force. That's just Wrecknam's fate."

"No. I can't do this."
