Living With My Lady Boss

Chapter 2271

Wilbur gritted his teeth, shaking his head.

He had thought that Senior Fremont would have surely considered the lives of Wrecknam's inhabitants, but that did not seem to be the case. If Wilbur was to leave with the dragon cauldron fragment, two hundred thousand people would end up dead. He would rather give up the cauldron fragment than have that happen.

"Listen to me, kid. It's just their fate."

"No, I can't do it. I'm sorry."

Wilbur turned to leave, and the woman's voice rang from behind him. "Are you really going to give up just like that? You've worked so hard to come this far. Do you want the dragon cauldron fragment or not?"

Wilbur stopped in his tracks. The urge to turn back gnawed at his heart, but he ended up gritting his teeth and saying, "I don't want it anymore!"

He turned to leave when the domain disappeared. Wilbur was back at the bottom

of the well, with the sound of applause coming from around him.

Lawrence, Kennard, and the others appeared, and Lawrence said, noveldrama

"Congratulations, you did it. You completed the challenge. The dragon cauldron fragment is yours."

"What?"

Wilbur stared at the men in shock as Lawrence passed a wooden box to him. "Open it."

Wilbur opened the box and saw the cauldron fragment lying in there safely.

"What... What's going on here? Didn't I say that I didn't want it anymore? I don't want two hundred thousand people to die because of a choice I made."

"Actually, buddy, things aren't as bad as you think."

Lawrence patted Wilbur on the shoulder and continued, "Senior Fremont's test was to see what you would choose. You ended up making the best choice, which helped you pass the test."

Kennard chimed in, "Don't worry. The dragon cauldron fragment isn't the core of this underground formation. It's not going to disappear whether or not you take the cauldron fragment with you, and the people of Wrecknam will still continue on with their lives without any risk of dying from a drought."

Wilbur heaved a sigh of relief when he heard those words. The dust had settled. The people of Wrecknam could go on with their lives, and Wilbur could get the dragon cauldron fragment he sought after.

Tears streamed down Wilbur's cheeks then, and he raised a hand to wipe at them. Kennard saw that and said, "Whoa, is it really that serious?"

"No, it's just... I really... I could never say yes to personal gain with two hundred thousand lives at stake. I can't do it, I... I can never do something like that."

Wilbur was overwhelmed to the point of tears from what just happened. Lawrence said, "Only someone who truly cares more about the world than himself would be able to be chosen, and that is you."

"Lawrence."

Kennard looked sharply at Lawrence, who promptly shut up.

"Thank you."

Wilbur emerged from the well, returning to his hotel with the wooden box. He was in no hurry to take out the dragon cauldron fragment to read its spirit message this time. Instead, he put the box away into his demiplane. Wilbur wiped away his tears and walked out into the bustling streets.

Wilbur spent seven whole days in Wrecknam, during which he fully experienced the warmth of the city's inhabitants. He contemplated many things and even hiked up the city walls to reminisce on his memories with Caitlyn.
