Cherise sighed deeply while Lucy stopped her questioning. Neither could believe that Maeve's hospitalization was due to something like this!

She remembered how good Charles had always been to Maeve before!

They assumed their positions like two seasoned soldiers returning to the front lines after a prolonged break.

Faced with the faint beating of Maeve's struggling heart, all their doubts and hesitations were cast aside.

It was as if the two ladies had never left the field of saving lives.

The surgery lasted half a day. When Cherise finally stitched close the last of the broken blood vessels in Maeve's heart, she was utterly exhausted and starving, lacking any strength in her body.
