The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains

Chapter 565 Causing Trouble

"Emily, maybe I can stick around and help you out." Archibald suggested, shooting a deliberate glance at Michael.

He was hinting at something, supposedly out of concern for Emily, but there was an underlying challenge in his words. Michael knew exactly what Archibald was up to. He gave a faint smile, too uninterested to call him out.

Emily simply shook her head and then looked at Michael, her eyes reflecting a complex mix of emotions. "No, some things are better handled between us alone."

Archibald took the hint and didn't press further. He turned to leave but kept looking back at Emily with concern. Michael was tired of this constant competition. He glanced at Archibald, a spark of irritation in his eyes. Archibald seemed to sense the hostility and paused briefly before looking away.

The wind blew through the front of Emerald Lake Manor, bringing a sudden quiet. Michael took a deep breath and turned to Emily, his eyes filled with a dogged determination. "Whatever you say, I'll accept it."

Emily's heart trembled, her eyes reddening. She couldn't help but respond with a shaky voice, "Who asked you to accept anything?"

"Just tell me, was it you who found that house for me? Why did you do it?"

"Michael, don't you see? You're undermining me, my abilities! Can you stop making it seem like I'm some helpless canary that always needs your help? I can live without you!"

Her words, though soft, hit Michael like a hammer, striking deep into his heart. His eyes reddened instantly. After a moment of silence, he spoke slowly, "I never meant to..."

"But others will think that!"

Emily bit her lip, tears welling up and finally spilling over like broken pearls. Michael's heart ached at the sight. He stepped forward, wanting to hold her, but she stubbornly pushed him away. In that moment, Michael felt like he was losing everything.

Emily's tear-filled eyes were resolute. "You know, I've never wanted pity. I want recognition. I'm not your pet bird, and neither is our child. We don't need to live at Emerald Lake Manor."

Michael's eyes widened. "What do you mean by that?"

Emily's voice was cold as ice. "Isn't it obvious? I'm moving out of Emerald Lake Manor. Yes, you gave me this house, but I'm selling it and buying a new one."

"And we will be like any other divorced couple. You will have visitation rights to see our child once or twice a week."

Michael's face turned pale. He looked at Emily in disbelief. "Are you really going to do this?"noveldrama

Emerald Lake Manor held their most cherished memories. He couldn't bear to part with it, but Emily was ready to let it go.

"Yes, I've decided," Emily said firmly, meeting Michael's gaze. "Everything here is in the past. Selling Emerald Lake Manor is best for both of us."

Michael's throat tightened, a mix of reluctance and helplessness swirling inside him. Before he could respond, Emily had already walked into the house, instructing Lexine to pack and calling Abigail.

Michael stood there, watching Emily's retreating figure, feeling a wave of powerlessness. He knew she was acting on impulse, but she was also resolute.

Just then, Michael's phone rang. It was Andrew. He had just left Emerald Lake Manor and was calling again. Was he trying to comfort him?

Michael sighed and answered the call, his tone lazy. "What's up?"

Andrew's urgent voice came through. "Michael, something's happened! There's a crowd gathered outside the Brown Corporation, and Hayden's been seriously injured."

Michael's first instinct was to look at Emily. She glanced over, frowning as if she had anticipated something.

Michael's heart tightened. He quickly hung up and walked over to Emily, speaking in a low voice. "Something's happened at the Brown Corporation."

They exchanged a look, and Emily's face turned pale. She clenched her fists, a flicker of panic in her eyes.

Without a car, Emily ended up riding with Michael to the Brown Corporation. In a critical moment, she chose to trust him. They drove in silence, the atmosphere in the car heavy with tension.

When they arrived, the scene was chaotic. Emily took a deep breath, resolutely pushing open the car door and stepping into the fray. Michael followed closely, silently vowing to stay by her side no matter what.

Emily made her way through the crowd to Hayden's secretary, who was anxiously making phone calls. Seeing Emily, the secretary quickly hung up and reported urgently, "Ms. Brown, thank goodness you're here!"

"Where's my dad?" Emily's voice trembled, and Michael could hear it clearly.

"Mr. Brown was just taken to the emergency room. We don't know his condition yet!" Emily's heart sank. She looked around at the people holding banners and continued to ask about the situation. But Hayden's secretary, always inept, was even more flustered now, unable to provide any useful information.

Emily decided to ask the security guard on duty instead. The guard quickly recounted the events from an hour ago.

"I was about to finish my shift when there was a loud noise at the entrance. I turned around and saw a group of people with banners rushing in. They looked like they were here to cause trouble!"

"I couldn't let them tarnish the Brown Corporation's reputation, so I confronted them. Mr. Brown arrived just then, on foot. Before I could figure out what they wanted, another group appeared and attacked him! They didn't care that he was alone; they seemed intent on beating him to death!"

"And that's how Mr. Brown ended up in the hospital. I managed to escape unscathed." The guard then looked at Emily with a grave expression, warning her, "Ms. Brown, these people are dangerous. Someone's behind this, and they're ruthless!"

Emily's heart tightened. She took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. "Thank you for the warning."

With that, she turned and headed towards the group with banners. Michael quickly grabbed her arm. "What are you doing?"

Emily's eyes flashed with determination. "I'm going to find out who's behind this. They can't get away with it."

Michael tightened his grip on her arm. "Emily, it's too dangerous. Let the authorities handle it."

She shook her head, her voice firm. "I can't just stand by. This is my family, my responsibility."

Michael sighed, knowing he couldn't change her mind. "Alright, but I'm coming with you."

They moved together towards the crowd, ready to face whatever awaited them.
