Innocent Attraction
Christina stared at the clock for the hundredth time that afternoon.
She had no idea when Max would get here. The only thing he gave her was his words of mouth that he would be at her door by noon to pick her up to the place that only the heaven knows.
And to make matters worse, she had no way of contacting him to ask if he had cancelled or not because she doesn't even have his phone number to begin with. None of them had even thought about asking the other for it so she wouldn't entirely blame herself too.
Besides, it's not like she'd need to call him often, neither are they close friends so she doesn't really see the point of having it.
With a deep sigh, she stood up from the couch and made her way towards her bedroom to get ready. She undressed and decided to take a shower. Maybe by the time she was finished, he would've arrived causing waiting doesn't seem to help.
Max arrived minutes later and walked towards Christina's door after parking his car at the entrance.
He placed a knock on the door but there was no response. He tried again and proceeded to twist the door knob. Surprisingly, it gave way. Maybe she knew that he was coming and intentionally left the door open.
Pushing the door open, he stepped into the house fully, letting his eyes roam around the place but there was no sign of anyone.
"Cupcake?" He called out to her. "Christina?" He called again, alarmed when she didn't respond.
Just as he was about to make his way towards the kitchen, he heard footsteps approaching from behind him. He hurriedly followed the sound to the corridor where he bumped into Christina.
"What the "Christina paused, her heart caught in her throat when she realized who she had just walked into by accident. Her eyes flew open, almost bulging out of their sockets
Max looked down at the woman that he had just invaded her space. She looked flushed and her blonde tousled hair was dripping wet which meant that she just stepped out of the shower.
His eyes traced the water that trailed down her face, down her next and disappeared into her chest. Her hands gripped her towel tightly as she tried to scramble away from his gaze.
Her curved lips quivered from fright. Seeing how uncomfortable she had become under his gaze, he immediately turned away from her.
"W-What are you doing here? Inside my apartment? W-Without knocking?" She shrieked, the terror in her voice was alarming.
Max bit down at his lower lip, hard. It was just yesterday that he got her to tolerate him and now today, he had walked into another bigger mess. Why is it always like this when it comes to her?
He swallowed. "I was knocking at the door but you didn't answer and then, I realized that the door was open so I assumed that you left it open on purpose and
Just then, she realized that she had left it open by accident after stepping out to grab something.
"Who leaves a door open on purpose? It was by mistake oh lord!"
"I'm sorry." He uttered an apology. "Believe me, it wasn't my intention to walk in on you like this." He added before disappearing back into the living room.
Christina ran into her room and slammed the door shut behind her, making sure to double check that it was locked. Her heart was literally thumping loudly inside her chest and the more more she thought about what had happened, the more it refused to leave her mind.
Why here? Why today? Why does the universe keep putting them together in an awkward situation?noveldrama
Shaking her had aggressively to brush off the scary thoughts from her mind, she cleaned herself up and processed to wear her clothes after drying her hair.
"You can do this Christina." She chanted to herself repeatedly, her hands holding the door knob for support. "It's not like it's your fault anyway. He walked In on you and not the other way round."
It still didn't sound reassuring no matter how hard she tried to convince herself.
"Let's just get this over with." She took in a deep breath before unlocking the door. Closing the door behind her, she marched into the living room to see Max who was pacing restlessly.
Their eyes came in contact with each other and for a moment there, there was brief silence between them.
He had guilt written all over his face. That's a first. She didn't know that he could express such emotions and she didn't know if she wanted to scold or argue with him at the moment.
"I'm deeply sorry cupcake-"
"Christina." She corrected him again. At this point, it was like a back and forth issue between the two of them. He never listens. A trait of his that didn't quite sit well with her.
"When you didn't answer your name, I thought that...I thought that something had happened and I wanted to make sure that you were okay." He explained himself sincerely.
"It was never my intention to...gosh you're never going to believe me anyway so what's the point?"
"It's my fault too." She said, taking him aback. Did she just admit that she did something wrong?
"I can't let you take all the blame when I'm also responsible for this incident."
"If I never forgot to lock the door then you wouldn't have come inside unannounced so, let's just call it a mistake and forget about it cause it's already embarrassing as it is." She looked away, her gaze faltering but somehow, it found it cute.
"Shall we?" She said and made her way outside, leaving him to follow cause the
more she stood there, the more awkward the situation became.
Max stared at her as she walked away. He knew he shouldn't think about it or dwell on the issue but the image of her in that towel has been imprinted on his mind. For some reason, it couldn't shake it off.
Would it be wrong if he said that he found her innocently attractive? Her hair that fell in wet strands, her skin,
the droplets of water glued to her body. He shouldn't be thinking about this but why can't he stop?
"So, where are we going?" Christina asked when he opened up the car door for
her. She settled in nicely and he took the driver's seat.
"You'll find out when we get there." He assured her. "Think of it as a day off."
"I don't like surprises." She muttered under her breath but loud enough for him to
hear.
Pulling himself closer to her seat, he reached for the seatbelt. Christina squirmed under his gaze, his breath fanning her face as she struggled to look away.
Forcing himself away from her, he grabbed the belt and locked her in.
"I promise that you'll love this one, trust me." He whispered softly, his eyes reassuring her one last time, hoping that he doesn't mess this up, before he started the ignition.
